Title: Some feedback would be nice.
Post by: GPI on March 10, 2003, 05:56:41 PM
For example, on which systems run Charas.EX (CPU/OS/RAM; my System: PII333 Win98SE 256 MB)

or what do you think about the program, what is good, what should be better.

It was not hard, to write charas.EX (and I had a lot of fun to write it), but to import new resources will take a lot of time. (I don't plan to stop to import!)

So tell my, what do you think about Charas.EX.

I really like the Charas.EX interface, but resource importing is a long and drawn out process :)

I'm running on an Athlon 600 w/ 320 MB RAM, and it runs absolutely beautifully!  I'm just trying to figure out how to import more resources!

OK, the import is not simple. I have write a FAQ, so look at this. Also i have add two new function to the import. You can now hold down the left click and move the mouse to select easier more colors and a multi-select-color on the right-mousebutton is added.

For some reason, when i click on the update download, it takes me to a page of random symbols nad no download. I hate my computer...

Maybe because the update-files has the extension ".update". And so the browser think, this is not a download-file.

Try to right click on the link and select "save as" or something like this (i only have the german browsers.)

I will ask Alex to update the download-site.

Everytime I do a second update, there is something like:

Can't update file: credits.GID
Title:
Post by: GPI on March 15, 2003, 02:30:42 PM
When you open a .hlp, a .gid will be created (hidden!).

I think, the updater can't create the file, because you have open the help-file, or because it is write-protect, or something like this.

But ignore it. A update of the .gid is not realy necassary.

In the future i will tell the Updater, that he will ignore all .gid.

btw: If the updater says, that he can't delete a file, the file doesn't exist or is writeprotected. Same for directorys. If the directory exist, he can't create it. and so on.

In most of the case, you can simple ignore it.

Ok, i will take a look.

btw.: Why do you don't post this direct in the forum?

>Well, I thought this was something for this topic. But next time I'll think about it  :)

No, i mean something else. i wonderd why you attach a text-file and why you don't wrote the text directly in your posting.
(Sometimes i wrote faster then i can think ...)

To the bug:
I have tested it now:
Make a char, recolor, save as .char, recolor, load char, recolor, choose other resource and then save again.

No problem.

What exact have you done? Maybe you can give me the .char?
Do you have run other applications parallel?

Maybe it is a bug in PureBasic. In the new version Purebasic-compiled programms can detect the processortype and use optimisted routines. So it possible, that on my PII everything is ok, but with PIV there a problems. I will compile in the next day the charas with diffrent options. Can you then test this?

Edit: I check my compiler. It seems, that the default-option is, that no CPU-Optimation is made. I can only send you a dynamic-CPU-optimation-EXE. I don't think, that this is usefull...

So please, write, what exact you have done (resource, color, etc)
Can somebody else confirm this bug?

Hmmm... simple actions:

Choose resource (body in this case), saved as CHAR file, clicked on the body color, changed to any color (blue actually), man turned black, closed, crash.

Bad, bad, I do this and nothing special happend.

The Problem is, that i don't have WinXP or a Pentium4.

Ok, i will take a look at the code and i will compile a version with v3.51 (so maybe it is a compiler-bug).

Btw: Does this error happend with older version? All Version befor 1.3.3.23 are compiled with 3.51.

Version 1.3.3.8: Crash when trying to save

Version 1.3.3.9: Crash when trying to save

Version 1.3.3.10: Same as 1.3.3.23

Conclusion: My PC is totally screwed.

Good news for you, bad for me.

It seems, that WinXP is the problem. And that is a problem for me, because i don't have XP (and i don't buy it! And of course i dont steal it!)

So i asked in the PureBasic-Forums, if somebody can help.

Ok, i get a advice.

Can you test this?

There are two version, one with debugger, one normal beta.

When the normal beta crash, please try the debugger-version. Maybe he will tell me more...

It seems to work. But now the ultimate test:

Is it Win98 compatible?
