Title: Help! I'm losing interest in video games!
Post by: Musha on August 02, 2007, 07:19:47 AM
I've noticed that lately, I've become less and less interested in playing my considerable collection of games.  My Xbox has sat untouched for weeks now, and I hardly play my PS2 at all lately.  What have I been doing with my spare time, then?
Reading......Harry Potter.....
No, I have not been sucked into the Cult of Potter or anything.  I still think the f irst couplemovies were better than the books they were based on, and I will forever hold to that opinion.  I actually thought the first book kinda sucked.  But still I feel stragely compelled to keep reading.
What has come over me?

You're growing up. Sucks, huh?

I recomend the Foundation Trilogy by Asimov if you're looking for more.

Try taking up a hobby, like playing an instrument or doing some kind of sport or somethin'.

The game's quality is going downhill really, older games (not NES) had great stories but these days it's just the same things repeating over and over again.

Books are great as well, they give you the story that most games of today lack.
Read alot, maybe Harry Potter isn't the greatest(just my oppinion) but I know that there are plenty of fantasy books and the like out there.

Use your knowledge and write a book of your own till the day that some new good games is released. That's how I'm thinking, satisfying my mind enough.

I've had less and less of an interest in video games. I rarely come across a console game I get into nowadays, I play mostly handheld, but even there, my interest is fading. And I agree with you, Harry Potter compelled me to keep reading. I just finished it last night. Now I have school reading to do and a huge French assignment. That combined with work gives me practically no time to do anything else.

Shoot yourself in the foot, QUICKLY!

I have yet to lose interest in games, just my expectations have raised up a bit over the years.

Losing interest in games is like if I lost interest in drawing. Can't afford it and I gotta improve my style.

If you can't find a new game you want to play, try playing an old game in a new way. Like challenge runs in RPG's, don't buy items, don't use items, don't use abilities, whatever. Keeps the game tough, and makes you appreciate it more. Also, get a Handheld, I love having a modded DS, because now I can play old NES, SNES and Genesis games on the go. Improvements on the emulators also gives you something to look foreword to.

Only reason I'm gaming less is because of work and anime. Otherwise, I'd game a hell lot. Sure a lot of games suck. But I always find the ones that don't =D

My advise, just read the bloody books then start your games again. Otherwise, give all the PS2 and XBOX games you got to me. I'll at least use them.

dude... since turning 20...six years ago...ive played very little vids... aside from the odd boredom stint in the winters....

its alot easier to get laid if you play less vids too.

Growing up dosent suck....youll find a game again soon. reading is good.

dont stress about not being a loaf

i like reading...

I haven't even been able to play a console game in a month.  Although...  I have very little console game wise to do.  *hits broken GBA*  If you're losing interest in Videogames, its not the end of the world.  (Or is it...?)

I don't think my losing interest in gaming has anything to do with getting older.  My roommates are 26 and 28 respectively, and they are more into games lately than I am.

Getting older =/= growing up.
If you find yourself losing interest, find something else. If video games are really the be all end all some folks seem to want them to be, you'll come back to them. For now, pick up some Garth Nix, Diana Wynne Jones, and all those other more-fun-than-HP authors and knock yourself out.
