Sorry to sound dumb but what does ABS stand for and what does it do.

Stands for A Big Shithead, which is you ^^

It stands for Action Battle System. It means systems like Seiken Densetsu and Legend of Zelda.

Actually, it's Anti-Lock Breaking System. You know, it stops the breaks from locking up.

ACTIVE BATTLE SYSTEM.

It means that instead of choosing everyone's actions at the beginning of each turn, each person has their own time meter that builds until they can act. If you've ever played the first Final Fantasy, that is NOT an ABS, but the later Final Fantasy games are, like FF7.
