Title: Charas 3.0 Ready. Help required!
Post by: Alex on September 24, 2007, 11:11:56 PM
Hello, Charas world!

Thanks to Osmose and the efforts of the Team, Charas 3.0 is nearly ready!!!
Now, before altering the DNS so that the new server will correctly work as charas-project.net, we need your help.

We have to be sure the new server is able to handle the medium load of charas itself, and the only way to test it before

switching is... to ask you all to try it a bit.

First of all, the new server is not up-to-date: it is based on a charas "snapshot" taken around April 29th 2007.

So, only users registered before that date will be able to log into the new system (don't worry, we'll update everything

before switching)

What we need:

- as many users as possible around the system
- testing posts in the forums, including edits, new threads... everything you can think at
- testing the new Complete Resources system
- testing if the generators still seems to work fine

Obviously, every comment is appreciated: but at this stage, please limit yourself to IMPORTANT ones, realted to

functionality. Cosmetics comments are not needed now, we can make everything more beautiful later, if needed.

That said, what you need: the new server is located here:
http://69.65.98.228/

You may notice some missing images here and there, due to relative paths.
No problem, that is normal while on an IP address.

For comments related to the new system, please use this thread (and so AVOID spam at all levels, please).
To test the new server forum, you can refer to this Osmose thread as a welcome start:

http://69.65.98.228/forum/showthread.php?forumid=51&catid=8&threadid=20214

Enjoy and thanks in advance for your help!

I'd like to stress that people visiting the new site take note of a few things:

The CR is mostly empty in the most current pages as the database is more recent than the filesystem - resources are in the database but not actually uploaded. If you want to see resources with pictures go back until they start to appear.

We know about the array error when you view as an anonymous user, we're trying to fix that now.

You should take a look at the earlier news posts to the Beta Team as they also contain useful info about testing.

The CR looks great! Too bad I registered last month...

This is nice. I'm so glad this is almost really here, and that I'm qualified to test the **** out of this.

The private message hang I told you about is still there and is really, really annoying.

Lag when loading private messages at the main forum screen, right?

I can't replicate this and can't see anything obviously wrong with the code. Anyone else noticing that the main forum page lags specifically when loading the amount of private messages you have?

Released to the public eh? :p

Well done, man. You say we helped a bit but this has practically been you on your own. I admit I didn't think we'd get this far this fast with 3.0.

Syntax error
Page didn't load within 30 seconds, so I got a gray message box above the thread

Errors having to do with nasty quote stuff. Should be gone. Mention if it happens again, please. :)

I don't see the difference.

The biggest difference is simply that we can make whatever changes we want in the future without having to bother Alex.

Great, the forums look just as ugly as now.

:P

Great work!
