Title: User account issue on Windows XP
Post by: Phayre on October 28, 2007, 02:31:47 PM
So, I set up password-protected accounts on the family computer, because my brother and sister have been deleting each other's stuff and he tends to install stuff he shouldn't, which pisses my mom off. Hers is the admin account, but no matter what I do, when you restart or boot up the computer, it goes into it, no password required. I tried with the welcome screen on and off, switch user enabled and disabled,  and nothing works. The log in screen won't come up. I really need to fix this, because now my brother can wreak havoc in the accounts through the admin. He hates the arrangement, and is pretty vindictive, so please help me out before he does something remarkably stupid.

Might I suggest murder? That'll end the problem right there, with no real need for passwords!

Well, we tried calling the cops on him (for other reasons) and it didn't work. Perhaps you're right.

Haven't you all learned?! I am always right! If I ever need to make a left, I make three rights instead!

Have you tried logging off?

you should just log on via safe mode and log in with the main account I think it's called master or something. And just change youur bro's password to his account through control panel you don't have to retype his old one. then change yours too and you should be ok.

...which doesn't answer whether she tried logging off or not, simply that the initial login screen didn't show up.

See if any of these methods works (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/noautologon.htm).

Logging off before shutting down does nothing. Sorry, thought I'd mentioned that. His account has nothing to do with it; it's that the log in screen only turns up if you log out. If you restart or shut down at all, it goes into the admin's account.

I had this issue a while back if anyone on here remembers..

My cousin kept download porn though so I made a account with a password and one day I tried to change the password just in case
he figured it out (which he did) and I couldn't change it.

He install some program that allowed this.. I'd suggest checking your installs.
