 Story

The Knightblade Prophecy

Quote

And a boy will be born in a family of one...
And of the family of one, the boy will have a son
And of that son will be an aura of likeness. That son will have the Mark of the Knightblade...Death will follow that boy in the end, and All existence of man will end. The exile, the huntes, and the Prophecy... Knightblade prophecy.

You are a young boy, dreaming of adventure.

One day long ago, your brother has signed up for a job of the town guardian. Today he is going to have a ceremony to be officially knighted into the job. an adventurer. After you finish somethings for your father, you are sent your way to the ceremony. That night, after the ceremony, your brother must stay with the elder for the night. You, on the other hand stay home and go yo bed. Thinking you'll never see your brother again, you have trouble going to sleep. that some warm milk would help you out, sleeping wise, you hed toward your cabinet. However, once you get there, You find a ghost has suddenly appeared in the middle of your house. Startled, you you jump up and yell. As soon as you jump, the ghost lets out a plea for help. That doesn't help your sanity level.  Suddenly your teleported to a castle.
A strange, run down castle, but a castle never the less.wondering how and why you got there, you begin to pace upwards. When you walk up, your attacked by the guards for no exact reason. After knocking the guards silly, you wake up in bed.
Thinking that everything after going to bed was a dream, you get up  and go outside, and find out your sister has been kidnapped by an unknown person in the town. Fearing about what will happen, your brother sets out to find her. Three days latter he hasn't come back. Thinking your brother is dead, you want to go and finish what your brother started.you sneak away to the exit of the town, hopping no one notices. To your amazement your dad is already at the gate. You expect him to be mad, but instead, he gives you luck, and gives you is hand me down sword. When you ask him why aren't you mad, he says that he is more sad because all his children have left him, and he would do the same when he was younger. Leaving your dad with half resentment, you step into the forest.

As soon as you step out into the forest, your life will be changed forever.

Well, It's a decent story. Is the castle dreamish thing important to the story?
Title:
Post by: Jaarroho on November 02, 2007, 10:54:24 PM
Yes. That is MAJOR to the story. And thanks for liking the story!
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on November 02, 2007, 11:39:06 PM
All the characters are members of the first town? Might get boring.
Title:
Post by: Jaarroho on November 03, 2007, 12:06:15 AM
Well, that is because they are so far the only main characters connected to the story SO FAR. (not forever, ack, there are tons of characters farther on...I just don't want to accidentally give you a spoiler.)
Title:
Post by: Dragoon de Sol on November 03, 2007, 12:18:24 AM
I don't like it.

The characters have no information other than a small one sentence description. The fact that you've listed your story as a feature means you are cocky and overconfident, a sure sign of a newbie. You've also listed awesome characters as a feature. Like the story, it is an opinion of your own, not a fact, which again shows you're cockiness and overconfidence in yourself. Gorgeous maps and realistic dialogue is also as above, overconfident, cocky, and opinion-based. Lots of weapons and armor are not always a good thing. Invoke chi is only a skillset involved in the default settings of a new project, meaning you either don't know how to adjust the battle commands, or you actually expect to making "Invoking Chi" something new and exciting. You have over 100 characters...and they're all 100% done? Doubt it.

Your story is also very bland.

If the character goes to the cupboard, which is against the wall, how'd he jump twenty feet, in the air or otherwise?
Why is it your character CAN'T sleep because he's worryng about his brother, and next thing we know he wakes up to find everything amiss?
Why does the character sneak away from town? Can't he just walk out?
Why is his father sad?
How does his life change?

You need some work.

And don't use the lack of work time as an excuse. You should know better than to post something half assed.
Title:
Post by: Jaarroho on November 04, 2007, 08:45:15 AM
Hehe. I knew someone would say something like that. But I AM overconfident. Nothing to hide there. Anyway, The Skill system, sher it's the default system, I just added tons of skills that have certain spells.

EX-invoke chi- Update= Makes your char. have more def, agi, and str.
Skill- Large Cut= A very large attack that causes mass damage.
Aura- Helpful aura= Gives a char. an aura the gives 12 health each turn for 4 turns.
Weather- Hail= Inflicts Ice damage to all enemy's on screen, and inflicts hailing condition to all enemy's.
Dark Magic- Hellfire= Causes a massive blaze that severely damages the foe and inflicts burn.
Magic- Meteor= causes a flaming rock to fall from th sky and damage the foe.

Those are ALL my skill types, with an example of one skill from that category.

Your complaint with the characters is reasonable. The thing is that if you read the story, you will figure all you need about the characters. And also, I'm just not a good describer.

With the features, I have had some people test play it, and they tell me what they think. So, anyway, I guess i should say I have play testers?

And using lack of time for an excuse? I don't know where you got that. I was just saying that this project is, now 4 days, old but I wasn't complaining. I was just saying how long I have been working on it.

For the story, Yah. I'm bad about righting about something that  is already created. So it is going to appear bland. (not justifying anything, though)

Also, The reason  kept invoke Chi was because I LIKED the invoke chi setting in the defaults settings (think the name is cool)

And I DO know how to adjust the battle commands. What do you think "Aura" is?

And when I said 100's of characters, It I kind of meant that I had alot of characters. (I have about 7 main, and I have 4 villains, I have LOTS of people, and I have a good bit of  characters that developed the main char. (like the dad, the brother, the sister).

Well, I hope that answers some of your questions. Thanks for the comment! (No sarcasm. Seriously, Its true.)

Well personally I like it, I really dont vare if your overconfident it doesnt bother me, Sometimes Confidence is a good thing. I'll test play it for you when you get a demo out and i'll let you know what I think about the game then. Keep up the Good Work.

Ok, demos is up! it is not that much of the game, but it is enough to get the basics.
Title:
Post by: Greeb on November 04, 2007, 01:04:23 PM
The mapping was below-average.It was just a boring cave with some rocks and crystals here and there. Then the battles. They were the "mash-the-spacebar" type. You couldn't use any auras or cast any spells just attack, attack, attack. In my opinion the "random encounter" type battles are a bad choice. The music was quite good, and would fit the cave if you would be running from someone. The only decent thing was the custom graphics. They were eye-catching and clean(except the victory battlechar, it looked "broken".
Also I hate the cliche that monsters drop gold. It's only my opinion, though.
And don't try to defend yourself by saying "I only worked for 4 days" or something. If you can't show us something good because you want to show it to us quickly, don't show anything.

Overall, I'd give the game a strong 5.5/10.I would like to see it finished, though.  :)

Post by: Jaarroho on November 04, 2007, 01:47:36 PM
Ok. the reason you could only go in the cave was because I put the starting point in the rong place.

Ok, now I fixed. And thanks for the comment, I liked your oppinion.
Title:

Um... I don't know what to say.  When I started the game it asked me to choose my name with a load of foreign letters and symbols with no way of getting off the screen so I just closed it.

Title:

Ok. Just figured it out. I should have a few screenshots up soon. Also, demo is being postponed so that I can create a naming system.
Title:

thats alright i dont mind waiting
Title:
Post by: Jaarroho on November 06, 2007, 09:30:09 PM
Ok, I have no idea what I should do. I need you guys to tell me which is better:

Random encounters or On map Encounters.

I have been told that the random encounters thing was bad in my game, but I can't decide.
UPDATE!=Demo is Out! I do not think I'm going to have to put it down because of glitches, because I fixed all that I could find in the test play.(and yes, I took greeb's advice and test played it, so I know that I have  the starting point were it goes.)
Title:
Post by: Dragoon de Sol on November 06, 2007, 11:51:25 PM
On map encounters are better, and I'm still waiting for maps.
Title:
Post by: Jaarroho on November 08, 2007, 01:34:09 AM
Eh? sorry. I don't know what you mean. what I tink you mean is that your waiting for the good maps I said would come out. Am I right?

if I am, I think i'm ready to explode with anger about those maps. I just haveone thing to say...(this is to everyone) FOR PETES SAKE! MY MAPS ARE AS GOOD AS I CAN MAKE THEM. IF YOUR NOT HAPPY WITH THEM, THEN DON"T COMPLAIN. I WOULD PREFER HELPFUL CRITISIZEM THEN HATE MAIL! heherm... Sorry.

If not, Sorry for the yell that was unnecessary.  Anyway, a new demo should be out in a few days, and thanks to Dragoon de Sol, I have went to on map encounters. I Do recremend though, just because you can avoid the monsters, the enemies and bosses get extremely powerful later on, so it would be best to fight some to gain Exp Lvs.

Agian, sorry.

Not true. I listed my story as a feature in my description after I'd been working on my game for a long time.

though, I must admit, I'm not a fan of the story of this game.

Thanks for the back up, Zerlina. And sorry you don't like the story.

(to everone)Well, overall, the next demo should have till the 3 boss. Currently I have added a whole lot of maps. I think I have 40 or something. (and yes that is alot for a game that hasn't even finished chapter 1.) I have also put the arena feature in another town. I'm also working on making almost everything interactive, but I'm not done. Also, I think I need some beta testers, because my old ones decided not to test it anymore. You can either P.M or email me if you want to help.

Thank you!

I would've said the same to you. Listing a basic aspect of an RPG as a feature is not a very good thing.

When you're creating for an engine where the majority of stories are spinoffs of Final Fantasy 7 and/or the stories of lone badass merceneries who have to save the world from a guy who turns out to their father, it IS a feature.

That isn't really true, I've only seen a handful of those types of story in games.

This thing about the story being listed as a feature.  A feature is just an aspect of your game, so really you could list features like "walking around", and "saving your game".  The only reason we don't list these is because they are a feature of almost every game.  The same goes for story, every game has one so it doesn't really need to be listed as a feature.  We prefer to see less common things as features such as custom systems.

Anyway so i'm not completely off topic.

I havn't played the game but the story seems a bit random.
"You suddenly see a ghost" then you are "suddenly teleported to a castle" then you "suddenly wake up in bed" etc.  Try adding a bit more detail to tie these events together.

so I don't know if anyone else has even downloaded the demo yet, but I'm not able to do really anything in the character naming screen. I added an attachment.

so yeah, any advice on fixing that?

Title:

Whoa...that faceset needs fixin'. Also, that looks like it may be a problem with your engines, not his game.

And dude, the screens aren't impressive.
Title:
Post by: Jaarroho on November 11, 2007, 11:40:47 PM
Well, I deleted the character naming, so now your characters is named "Adam" until I can fix it. And yes the demo is the fixed version, so there is no naming in the current demo. Hope this fixes your problem.

Also, It IS a problem with my game, not your engines. sorry.
Title:
Post by: RPG noob on November 12, 2007, 05:42:05 PM
Ok, I played through to the bit where your sister gets kidnapped and I couldn't do anymore.

There are too many things wrong and this is only referring to the starting village.

Bad grammar and spelling.
Some writing cuts off the screen (get guidelines patch)
You look fat from the side.
The birds move retardedly.
You can keep getting unlimited money off your dad.
Your brother looks way older than you and your dad.
You can walk through the outside of thehouse you find your sister in.
There are trees with half the trunk missing.
There are trees growing out of the rock path.
The area you swordfight in with the man stopping you can be reached all the time if you go round the side.
The house in the top right corner has no door before you fight your dad.
The charsets dont always match the facesets/battlechars well (spirit guards ugh).
Your head gets cut off if you stand at the side of your bed.

When I finished the spirit world bit i went back to the elder house and that cutscene started again so I thought **** this and closed it.

Please don't take this the wrong way I've listed these bugs hoping you will fix them.

Also...

If they really tested your game fire them lol you're best off testing yourself.  When you complete each map try running into nearly everything from different angles to make sure you cant go through it, also go back through maps to make sure events don't reset (like the ones I listed).

I suggest fixing all of these bugs and cleaning up the grammar a bit then re-releasing the demo because at the moment I can't see how many people will play it through to the end.  Good luck.

I just playtested the game an whoa, the glitches are numerous. BUT  can't fire my playtesters because...erm...there kinda my friends. BUT, I plan on playtesting it myslef instead of them playtesting it all the time. Ok, I've fixed everything exce[t two thing...The fact the brother looks older then your dad, and you look to fat from the sides. 1st, I think the main character looks fine to me, so  am going to leave it untouched.2nd, I think I might switch the facesets around to fix the older problem. (The current demo hasn't been updated, though). And where can you find teh patch? I've been wondering how to fix the message problem, but I never could figure it out.
Agian, thanks.

@ Dragoon de Sol
...
I don't really care what you think much anymore. If your going to complain about my game, be like Greeb or Rpg noob. Atleast they were helpfull. I need to LEARN from my mistakes, not get all flustered about someone hatting my game.  And the reason I put Ultimate Eventer in my name is not because i'm great at making games, but I Am the ultimate eventer. Look at my profile to learn why. And I never used a tutorial for any of those.

@ All
Well, the fixed version should be out in a bit. Everything so far is working fine, and you should get the look at the arena, everything interactable, and advanced party swapper.

As for saving etc- those are features built into RM. RM doesn't have a story generator.
