Ok, so I knew about this from the Tokyo Game Show, however, I just got updated on this today from new scans. and i got all psyked to know that you CAN play characters from the last game :D apperantly from new scans
anyway, i havent been able to find a translation of the story in this new scan yet, but it will pop-up soon or later, what i do know is that the game is set 2 years after the end of the first one, and that you can breed and raiswe monsters and have them in your party. Perhaps like pokemon thing xD Exclusively for the wii, it comes out in Spring 2008 in japan, with predictions of a North American release for summer 2008. Two main characters named Emil and Marta, whatever else is need to be known cane be find in wiki and youtube, or go nintendo.
Anyway Scans i got today but are a few days old:

So, who liked the first one, and who thinks this one might suck/rock?
Oh also new tales games announced recently. Titled Tales of Vesperia, which i think is being made by te symphonia team
-
:o Kratos..? Is that him with the long nice hair and cute outfit? *humps him* :D
-
Didn't Kratos die? I beat the game once but it was too boring for me to play through again.
I really enjoyed the gameplay of the first, but if the plot is as piss-boring as the first, I don't know.
-
No he didn't fool. Zelos died... <<
-
Then he left or something right? Cut me some slack though, Kratos and Zelos are so interchangable, meh.
-
yes he did. he went on that other planet thing in the end or something to make up for his sins or whatever. :p
-
I hardly remember anything regardless that I cleared the game about 10 times. Sadly i dont have it with me cause it got stolen to spark some memory. but I think mid is right. Though I don't remember f that was the conclusion in both endings.
Well, if that guy is Kratos, i dont know. At first glance i thought it was Zelos, but i saw the little screenshot of him and that -yet-to-be-named girl. In on the other scan it has a name next to him that reads: Richter Abend. however, i been reading something about name confusion so I dont know. until some japanese kid that nerds in on gamefaqs or some related game site i got and kindly translates, then we wont know. namco is being secretive about this game. They're trying to hype it.
-
Actually, there were two different paths based on if you went out into the snow with Collette or Genus or no one. I went out with Collette, so yes, Kratos died in my game. So hah, you're both wrong. :p
EDIT: Er... or maybe you actually acknowledged that... and in one path Zelos dies because you fight him and kill him... and in the other, which I took... wait, maybe Kratos didn't die. Yeah, maybe he did go do whatever it was he did. All I know is I ended up with Zelos.
Oh, and this game, yeah it looks pretty cool. I'll probably get it.
-
So... Spoilers, people. Some of us don't have/haven't beaten/both the game yet.
Talkin' 'bout [STRIKE]a revolution[/STRIKE] me.
-
Well, yeah... Looks great. I just hope that the enemy-thingy will be like summons and not party members. It would suck big-time to use monsters in battle.
And I don't think that's Kratos. There was some odd name underneath his picture. Richter Abend....
And on a side note. I just love that I bought my Wii since every good game seems to be released on this cute baby.
-
Spoilers...? um okie... :p
When you keep zelos in your team, the only thing that happens with kratos is you fight him to power up your sword and he goes and lives on that planet. And if you keep Kratos in your team, zelos dies. I dun think kratos goes anywhere.. but I know he doesn't die. Zelos is the only character that dies. So :p
-
Not to mention, RPG characters dying means nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing... there's always that awful possibility of raise-your-eyebrow-what-the-hell bring a character back to life plot twistery.
What system is Tales of Symphonia, by the way? I'd been spoiled previously, but I'm interested.
-
gamecube.. they were suppose to be making an updated version for the playstation.. but I dunno what happened to that idea... I'm sure km knows tho :p

Yup :P japan-only release.
They didnt want to stagger the exclusivity on the cube.
the changes were somewhat minimal.
Graphics and sound value went down, while they added more events and attacks overall, and a few extra bosses i think. But nothing to hinder the plot already on the GC.
-
Did they also add the actual anime scenes for the PS2 version?
-
First one was epic; second one better be as if not more epic.

Thank you, I was about to say something similar to this myself. Also, you can get ANYONE including Kratos to talk to you at Flanior that night, although Colette is the most common.
Back on topic: This game looks like it's going to suck, I bought TOS the day it came out, and since have played it a total of five times through, on normal and hard mode (Still need to do Mania.), and honestly this game just looks un-appealing. I think Final Fantasy X-2 ruined RPG sequels for me. I WONT be getting it, I need to save my money for Star Ocean 4, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII. (Smash Bros is already bought.)
-
but aren't those like... after sequels..? :p It's a shame Kratos wont be in it tho.. :( I dun see Presea, Sheena, or Regal... ;.; make pictures of them appear.. now! and.. are there monsters on the team..? o.o

Regal was a freak. Sheena was a freak. Presea was a USELESS freak. I can't say I'm so excited. The first one was pretty... meh, this one looks slightly less meh, but still meh.

Please tell you are being sarcastic. Cause that one is too damn easy =
I'll the pics in a bit, as for the monster yes, its in the team, you can raise the monsters and have them in your team. I like to think of it as a pokemon thing

Anyway this is a translated plotline. If it sounds funky, its because it was translated by a funky person:
"Long ago, Sylvarant and Tethe'alla were united as a single world, connected by the Great Kharlan tree. Divine intentions tore them apart however, and the tree withered and died. It was eventually left to a boy named Lloyd to restore the world to its true form. At his journey's end, a new tree was planted to replace the old one and to hold the two worlds togther. This was the story of the Journey of Regenration...
Together once more, the world is now entering a new era. However, its people are still faced with many problems. After the lands became one, maps were rendered unusable and the climate went through many vast changes. Desert towns are becoming frozen wastelands and lakes are drying up into valleys.
All of this stems from an overlooked factor in the unification of the worlds. The spirit of the old Kharlan Tree, Ratatosk, still exists somewhere, and its slumber has sent the world into chaos.
However, Ratatosk isn't the only problem; the people of the two worlds are starting to hate each other. The citizens of Tethe'alla look down upon the citizens of Sylvarant due to their inferior tecnology, and the citizens of Sylvarant fear the citizens of Tethe'alla because of their power.
Two years have passed since the worlds were first merged, and the people of Sylvarant have set up a vanguard with which to rise up against the Church of Martel and the people of Tethe'alla.
One day, the Church of Martel went to war the vanguard, and Sylvarant's city of Palmacosta was caught in the crossfire. Countless innocent people died and Palmacosta was engulfed in a terrible fire.
This event came to be known as the "Purge of Flames", a bloody massacre, led by Lloyd Irving of the Church of Martel.""
And some more info on this and other things in this journal post who went to the event where the game was playable as a demo.

just read like the first half, the half after is nonsense.

Why would I be sarcastic? I have more faith in those other series than the Tales of... Series. I'm not a fan of sequels when it's one of my favorite games reputations on the line, I like closure. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVED Tales of Symphonia, I play it regularly, I've done EVERYTHING. (Except completed the item list.)
The whole monster team thing is one of the largest turn offs for me anyways. I MAY end up playing this game, but it's pretty low on my list as of now.

You guys played this game in english or what? Cause I can't seem to find it in english and I know absolutely nothing on japanese...
-
2nd one is in Japanese, the 1st is out in english for the gamecube.
New info:
A lot of information on Tales of Symphonia: Ratatosk no Kishi (Knight of Ratatosk) for Wii has been released today, courtesy of Bandai Namco Games. The sequel to 2003's GameCube RPG Tales of Symphonia will employ an enhanced version of the Flex Range Linear Motion Battle system (FR-LMBS) featured in Tales of the Abyss. The battle engine will support up to four players. The development team is also adding eight elements (earth, water, fire, wind, ice, lightning, light and darkness) to the system. In Knight of Ratatosk each location has a certain elemental affinity. Depending on the usage of elemental attacks by both party members and enemies, this local elemental affinity can change over the course of a battle, though. Such an elemental change apparently will have various effects on a battle's progress.
The development team has gone with a traditional control scheme. The Wiimote's motion sensor is used to execute special techniques. Like previous games, Knight of Ratatosk also allows players to pull off those powerful moves directly via shortcuts (instead of having to enter a menu). Using the Wiimote, players can perform a certain movement which will then trigger off the technique. This motion control can be switched off as well, though.
At the end of the battle, players can invite defeated monsters to join their party. However, only monsters with a certain character can be turned into party members. To make things even more complicated, a monster's character will change during battle, depending on the party's equipment or the actions taken by the party. Furthermore, monsters might decline to join the party.
A new character set to appear in the game has also been introduced. 20-year Richter Abend is searching for the Ratatosk Core to achieve a certain objective. After a childhood that saw him being oppressed by others, the young man has become extremely cynical. During his search for the Core, he meets protagonist Emil. While Emil's cowardice and passiveness annoy Richter, he still helps Emil. There seems to be a certain reason for this Richter's kindness, though.
Following the events of Tales of Symphonia, the two worlds had become one. However, as a result of this fusion, the environment has begun to change dramatically. Snow is falling in desert towns and lakes are drying up. The fusion of the worlds however is not the only cause of these problems. Another one is the condition of the powerful spirit Ratatosk. For unknown reasons, he has fallen asleep, resulting in a collapse of the natural balance. Meanwhile, the only thing that unites the people of the two worlds is their animosity toward each other. To protect the oppressed people of Silverland, a resistance group known as Vanguard was formed. As it opposes the Church of Martel, a confrontation between the two camps became inevitable. The Church eventually moved against Vanguard members holding a meeting in Palmacosta. The city was burned to the ground, with many innocent people becoming victims of the purge. The ringleader of this bloody crackdown is said to be Tales of Symphonia's protagonist Lloyd.
Tales of Symphonia: Ratatosk no Kishi will be available in Japan sometime this spring.

Somehow I can't see Lloyd leading a 'bloody massacre' against Palma Costa.
My guess is imposter, or something.
-
My friend (who isn't the greatest source) said that they blamed Lloyd because of the:
SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!
great kharlan tree that they pretty much awakened and let rape
Palmacosta to ruins in the game.
SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!
But i don't know... Those pictures at palmacosta could be flashbacks or my friend is just stupid once again.
-
well the thing is, we see lloyd fighting the new protagonists. Unless thats a guy in a suit, he might have bcome all defendant of his ppl D:
