Title: What's your RPG Maker strong point?
Post by: zuhane1 on December 24, 2007, 12:13:07 PM
Everyone is best at something with RPG Maker, like Meiscool with maps etc. Everyone is the best at something. What do you think you're the best at? Spriting? Maps? Coding? Storyline?

I think my strong point is my innovation, I have quite a good imagination and have invented strange custom levelling systems and lots of wacky ideas for my games.

EDIT: That reminds me, perfection. I can't have a single spelling mistake in tiny error in my game, it drives me nuts! Everything has perfect spelling down to the last capital letter.

I'm kinda good at everything. That isn't supposed to be obnoxious or anything, more like saying that if I had a report card on this, I'd have a B+ score in every field (writing, mapping, art direction, sound design, etc.)

If I had to say what I'm best at, it would be structure. I know how to keep things organized and consistent. I'm always going through game, character, and world design articles to make sure my game stays focused.

I guess I'm innovative, too innovative. I always get these "awesome" ideas that just won't fit in my current project and I have to start all over. Again and again.

I'd say story and music are my strong points. Although, I must admit that I haven't worked on a game for a long time. I've been busy writing a musical with a friend of mine.

I'd like to think I make some pretty good plots.  Not sure if that's true or not, but whatever.  And since none of you know anything about my game, no one can really verify that, either.

I'm also highly imaginative and funny, or so I'm told.  I like to put in little things like wizards who randomly disappear if you say 'Get away from me, freak!'  I'm detail-oriented, so I often spend hours at a time smoothing out all the little things, and making sure my chipsets and what-not work right.  That's probably why everything takes so long for me...

Spriting? I dunno.

Story, duh. I write actual short stories and am still working on my novel trilogy, so...
Oh, and plus the fact that I'm extremely average in every other aspect.
My report card would be all C's except in story, which would be either an A or A+, I'm not sure....
Yes, I like using more than one period. It's fun.

I'd get a B+ for sprite editing, an A- for mapping, an A++++++ for making fucked up gory stuff. and a C or B for everything else.

You're probably best at programming, from what I noticed.

For me, it's definitely story. I'm ok at sprites, and I can do pretty good edits and custom stuff, but mainly, I'm a story writer.

Programming, mapping, etc, I suck at. Thus why the Charas game has failed... because no one would do those jobs.

Thank You! That means a lot since I kinda considered that my weakspot.

I'm sorry to hear that the game went down. I was really supporting it. :(  Maybe you could post about it. No use trying to make a surprise if you don't have much to show for it I guess...

Lessee here, In order from best to worst:

Story writing
Spriting
Mapping
Music selection
Programming
-
-(Here's where I begin to suck completley)
-
Database organization
Music composition

Yeah, I've been told I do pretty good jobs on the stories and characters. Spritework is pretty obvious, maps are alright, and I always do strive to choose my music well. Programming is okay, though I don't particularly rock at it.

Now for the database; if you go into any of my games, you'll notice that, most of the time, items are just clumped up in random piles. Thing about that is; I don't want to use extraneous resources on empty item slots, so I clump 'em up into one little ball. It's alright for me, but makes things wonky in the inventory screens in the game. Arrg. As far as actual music composing goes, I suck. End of story.

And did the Chain game really die?!

Anyway, as for me, it's music and story all the way. However, whenever I develop a story, it becomes too big of a project for me to do, so anything I do end up making myself won't really focus that much on the story. I can do 8-bit sounds since making NES sounds is done the same was as making music, but I can't do anything more advanced than that. I'd say I'm a B grade coder and about a C+ to B range spriter, depending on how much time I take, which usually isn't a whole lot. As for mapping, I guess I'd be about a B+ (once again depending on how much time I take).

I think Shady is talking about the Community game, the other game that's supposed to be made.

Well, I'm a pretty good spriter if I may say so myself... I usually do most graphics on my own although my backgrounds and chipsets usually lack awsomeness and my battleanimations can look a bit stale...

I can't compose mucis, I can sit right here and make up a song with everything but I can't tell when what is going to happen or what instrument it is....

And I'm usually able to make really good stories with no real vilain, since they are just people as well... I'm able to crank all my thoughts, ideology and ethics into the game before I even start it.

But I more or less suck at the programming. I need some kind of help to get started since I know pretty much what I can do but there is this one thing I can't figure out.

Aye, this is what I was talkin about. Nobody really was interested, and when Aboutaso had to drop out, I lost my programmer, and no one could complete the programming, I tried to find people, but I've given up.

Hmm....probably character development and and confusing the hell out of people with mysterious stuff.  Lol.  But it's usually just enough to still keep you understanding what's going on without knowing everything.  I think that's why it's my strong point.   :domosai:

Chain is not dead.  I just kinda had no time.   :(

I finished a mini-chapter at least.

On-topic, I'd say in this order:

Music
Story
.......
And then everything else is tied in suckiness. :|

Post by: Djanki on December 31, 2007, 01:29:12 AM
Well, I guess I'm best at storyline. I'm naturally good at writing, but...that's it. If I made a game, it'd be like Xenosaga, only the graphics suck, and there's Final Fantasy VI and Sailor Moon music everywhere...

Still, put me with a good map-maker, and we could probably plan a nice game. I have too little patience to make good maps, and too little programming talent. If only I put more effort into it...

I'm best at coding new, innovative stuff, but to be honest I haven't touched programming hardcore stuff in a long time. I was gonna get really, really into a new RPG (some of you remember Area 19), but then I decided it would fit better in a book, because I realised i could make the main character much, much deeper in written format. So now I'm writing a book that I hope will get published eventually.

Other then that I compose flamenco pieces and write rock operas.

I'm best at knowing how to code something.. I used to be pretty good at spriting too.  But I haven't really touched any of that in like 3 years..

Yeah I'm kinda like Nintendo, I don't do anything mainstream. Why have a hospital or inn when you could have a magical crystal that you mine for special cells you put in your body to regain health? Why have bracelets and necklaces when you can have SD cards that you put in your weapons? Why have a human as a main character? Why not have a lizard who wears an open tracksuit top and has long spiky red hair? Why have a normal person as a side-kick? Why not have a giant bear in a spacesuit with a lasergun?
Title:
Post by: Razor on January 03, 2008, 11:26:10 AM
I dare say at least some aspects of those ideas are just as mainstream as hospitals and inns.

But I would totally play a game as a laser gun toting bear astronaut

The charas has you, Neo. (Had to <.< )

My strong point, besides quiting ongoing projects? Well, as far as I know, my games has always delivered better visually than technical. And yet I've never really liked mapping, gets boring after only a few minutes, and my maps tend to take some time making. v_v

A trick I use for database organization is to divide all my items into their respective classes, like SHIELDS 1 and SWORDS.  I also use breakers with these labels so I can find what I'm looking for more easily.  If that helps you at all, please send me $5.
