No. I don't mean that crappy thing, I mean the musicals High Schools preform every spring, and other music department subjects. =p
This year, our school is doing Bye Bye Birdie. I tried out for Albert yesterday... so nervous... I doubt I got it.
What are your schools doing? Or don't you know yet?
Do your areas have District Band/Choir ? I made it to both. =p The music for Chorus is hell. Magnificat... I want to strangle the bass part to it. The band one is funny because we are doing a Concert arrangement of King Kong. And... that was our Marching Show last. Its almost exactly the same. I play the same notes, jsut different instrument. =p. lol.

We have an amazing band
A not-so-amazing choir
A theater class that doesn't perform
:P
Seriously, I don't even know the last time the theater class put on a performance except at the last football pep rally -_-;
I hate to break it to Northern Louisiana, but school isn't just sports and shooting things. Seriously, somebody gag me before I become a redneck :P
-
You have to take drama class to perform so I dont audition, and tickets are pricey.

Our school is almost the opposite. We have an okay band, a great choir, and great theater productions. We have a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. And our school isn't too sport oriented.
Well, results came out yesterday (hah... its 12:57 am. lol). I got the part of Randolph. I'm Kim's brother, and Mr. and Mrs. Macafee son. =p. I have a few speaking lines, and few solos in some of the songs. What's sad is that in chorus, I sing Bass and my part is tenor, and the person who plays my dad sings tenor in chorus but his part is bass. :D. Its physically impossible for me to sing that high anymore. I'm supposed to sing an octave above the normal tenors. I have to sing two octaves below what I'm supposed to. O_o...

Our school has an amazing band and choir, and the drama program's really neat too. What we do is alternate musicals one year and a band trip outside of Canada for the seniors every other year. This year we're preforming Oklahoma. I didn't try out for an acting role, and I forgot to try out for orchestral...
-
In my school if you took part in a musical and/or choir you'd then be excluded from society and soul destroyed by the kids to the point where you took your own life.
There's a play occasionally though. My brother was in one.
-
My school's choir is led by a racist who can't sing.... Yeah....
Band's pretty good, though, at least jazz band is, the normal band isn't bad, but they're not that great, either. As for plays: the same five or six people are in every play. No kidding or exaggeration, unless there are extras parts, in that case other people MAY have a shot to perform. The drama teacher is very elitist and selective, you can't get into a play unless you're brilliant, good-looking, and in at least four other activities. I've never tried out, although I can act fairly well...
Oh, and you have to already be in a play to be in another one, as he only gives the times for auditions to people that are already in one of his plays. It's very messed-up.
Also: no one gets picked on for being in band, my friends and I saw to that. As for choir, it's 99% girls anyway.
-
I'd say we get picked on, but not really.
A bunch of retarded freshman football players made fun of a friend of mine earlier this year.
That didn't play out too well for 'em.
The football coach set 'em straight XD The coach loves the band.
He once had an argument with another school's coach over who's band was better XD
-
I had the football coach at our high school for a science teacher last year. We went on a trip to Florida to preform in Disney and Islands of Adventure. He didn't appreciate it too much. :D.
I've only been called a bandfag once, and it was by a football player in my grade last year. I said "Thank you!". lol
-
My school is doing "Hello, Dolly!" I play Stanley, the waiter.
We have a Performing Arts program that also does the Blackbox musical, which is a shortened version of a musical. This year, we're doing "Little Shop of Horrors," and I play Mr. Mushnik.

My condolences.
Nobody picks on the people in band (or choir), because:
a) my school isnt like that, with under 900 people everybodys pretty cool with each other
b) band people have awesome field trips, which is why most people join band anyway
c) all the cool people were at one point, or still are in band
d)

Yeah, that's kind of what it's like at my high school. A common joke in the band revolves around having more trophies than the football team has points.

Band sucks (I was in it), Choir is amazing (over 100 guys, it sounds awesome, no squeaky girls :P ), and Theatre is amazing. I do stage crew, and we do some sweet shows. For musicals, we've done Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, and this year we are doing The Scarlet Pimpernel. All of which quite difficult, but really good shows, I suggest seeing them if you have the chance.

Haha whenever I hear about that show, I hear "Little Shop of Whores" :D
And our band is really supported by our school. We don't do competitions though, we just play at football games and such. Actually, our football team was #1 in the nation this year, and the band was with them the whole way :)

+10,000 respect for your school. My school refuses to do anything so awesome.
-
Wow.
For inside jokes in our band, we have, "Can you do me?".
Our uniforms zip in the back! Its nothing... too perverted. We get really strange looks at competitions.
-
Wow lucky. We wear tuxedo shirts and black pants for concert band and all black for jazz.
We need to be more original.
-
I'm getting kind of tired of the "ZOMG BAND GEEKS ARE SO AWESOME" kind of mentality. Its so bad at my school, fuckers that don't even play an instrument hang out in the band room becuse they think it gives them some kind of status.
-
We only have a few people who seem to do that. Our school has more of a "Hey, the marching band exists and does better than the football team, but we'll support the football team twice as much!"
But our school district's administration is like, "We'll let the marching band go on trips to Florida every four years!" Which was the best. Sucks I only got to go as a freshman. :|
-
Every four years? We get to go every other year out of Canada somewhere. Every year the juniors go somewhere in Canada.
-
Fiddler on the Roof. I'm playing Mordcha the inkeeper. :p
DA-DA-DAI DAI! DA-DA-DAI DAI!
As for social ridicule, the performance arts are a VERY large part of why our school district is so great, and rarely do we ever get picked on by jocks/jerks/preps/etc. They either just enjoy the productions or don't care.
Oh, and Choirs and bands.
Choir is pretty big, and takes part in big choir competitions by sending the best soprano, alto, tenor, and bass to an all-state choir or stuff. Took part in one, decided I wouldn't take part in future ones. Oh, and our choir takes annual trips to places to perform and enjoy stuff. Last year our choir went to Orlando, Florida to perform in and enjoy Disney World.
The band and orchestra also take part in this all-state thing. I'm a bit unclear about what they really do, since I'm not in the band/orchestra, but I do know they are very helpful since they supply EPIC music for our musicals and plays. As far as I know, we don't have a marching band. Seriously, who'd want to march through the streets of cold old northern NY on the edge of freakin' Canada?
-
I'm not really into these kinds of marching bands, but it turns out that my school's Marching Band is really good.

It's wierd. I remember having a class right above where the band practiced, and they sounded terrible. The drumline was especially wierd sounding. EVERYBODY in the room was annoyed.
Congrats to the Marching Lancers anyway I guess. I wouldn't give them too much praise. I have a bad history with the band geeks.
-
Holy Crap, a 90?? Thats amazing...
-
Kick!
Because... I have more stuff. lol
So, for our show this year for Marching Band, it is comprised of
-Halo
-Civilization 4
-Kingdom Hearts AND/OR some bounty hunter game.
I'm ecstatic.

We've got nuthin'.
