On 01-18-08, I went to see the much-hyped movie, Cloverfield, that people have been raving about since the teaser in Transformers. And frankly, it deserved its hype. Why?
It's an original movie with a realistic outlook on a not so realistic premise. And besides, the monster is awesome.
Just in case you haven't seen it, it would be great for those who have seen it to put up a spoiler warning by their posts when speaking of plot or the monster, even if I already put one in the topic title (hardheads abound these days). Thank you.
Well, if you've seen it, what do you think about it? And if not, what do you think about it too?
I think it was a great movie. Of course, if you're expecting some heroic movie about a bunch of misfits overcoming impossible odds, look somewhere else. It has a reasonable reality to it (considering the circumstances) complemented by the handheld-video-perspective Abrams made it with (à la Blair Witch Project). It has special effects, building leveling, people dying, and enough monster to pull you in, yet keep you wanting more. The characters' reactions to the apocayptic mightmare are the central focus of the story (not the monster, if you go see this movie and expect that, you'll be disappointed), each experiencing their own dramas, doubts and fears in the face of the disaster. All in all, a different experience, and one you have to check out.
