I was just wondering what people at this forum would think of
a re-make of ff VII cause I read some other forum's discussions
about it and I think it'd be dope what do you guys think?
heres a link to a technical demo thingy doesnt it look dope?

I thought you said Final Fantasy IV DS remake, I was gonna tell you that I'm already at the the Crystal Palace.
If they remade it on PS3, I'd probably buy it.
-
Fan girls would shout out in cheering and later generations would be able to experience the game that made Sqaure very, very famous.
Me? I guess I could give it a second shot if they add some more content to it.
-
I think they should remake the VII, VIII, and IX all together. Instant cash without the backlash from the VII haters.

This is the smartest thing I've heard all morning =O Nah seriously, I'd love to play 8 and 9 again. I will prolly give 7 a shot if they add more too it.
-
I'd buy FFIX remake any day if they keep Zidanne rather manly. But I will make a taboo not to even touch or mention it if he turns out like that dirty streetcrawler- Vaan.
But I would buy myself a PSp if they would port FFIX to it as well. That game being portable would be worth every penny.
-
I'd be happy as long as they didn't rerecord the soundtrack. So much decent videogame music is redone for remakes, and ruined with too many strings and orchestral movements and it makes me cry.
-
Nope, stupid idea. EVERY freaking company needs to start creating some new franchises. i still cannot grasp the idea that such video game giants such as Nintendo and SE haven't come up with nothing new that's astonishing.
And I blame players for that.
"OMG REMAKE, YEAH!!!" People aren't happy with the original versions anymore.
-
FF7 would be great remade IF they left it as it is.
But you know what would happen?
They'd add bits of Advent Children into it.
They'd add bits of Dirge of Cerberus into it.
They'd add bits of Crisis Core into it.
And the game would be something different, something less.
(simply because everything made after the game pretty much pales in comparison and should be written out of FF7 canon.)
-
AYE.

Hmm....let's face facts: Final Fantasy VII is the game that put the RPG genre on the map; it entirely re-wrote the genre, for better or worse. What killed it is the stupidity of the majority of the fanbase. As it is NOW, the original FFVII is kinda dumb, with lines like 'No, way!" and 'Off Course!". A re-make that touched up on the old errors would be okay.
But, for the love of God, don't put anything from Advent Children or Dirge of Cerberus in. FFVII was just fine the way it was, even with Cloud 'The Mope' Strife and Sephiroth 'The Uber-**y' as main characters. AC and DoC killed the story.
'Sides, it's gonna happen. FFVII is SE's ace in the hole.
-
FF7 didn't do ANYTHING at all except have 3D graphics. If thats called pioneering a genre, then maybe cutting off my foot is the next step in evolution.
-
Original features don't make a game though, man. FF7 added a 'horror' aspect that hadn't really been explored much in RPGs at the time. And the 3D really helped bring places like Midgar alive whilst beforehand there was only so much you could do to change the atmosphere of a place.
Plus it was just good. And it was in that era when videogames weren't made to be advertised, but for the love of making a game.
But everyone has different opinions, anyway.

So you agree with the people that call it stupid, but you agree that is good. Good and stupid.
And I concur with ZKX

I don't think it's dumb or stupid at all, as a matter of fact, anyone who hates a game or refuses to see its redeeming features simply because everyone else likes it, isn't an individual, they're a wanker. You people refuse to say it's innovative simply because it didn't bring hardly anything new to the table? Well it was practically the first game to successfully bring something new to the table.
What did people have Final Fantasy VII to compare to when it first came out? Nothing. What do people compare it to now-a-days? Everything they can think of that they don't like or think is better for whatever damn reason. I bought this game when it came out, from previously owning Final Fantasy IV and VI for SNES, and you know what? My Jaw dropped when I watched the opening scene, and you know what else? It still drops every time I watch this scene, because I appreciate what this game did for me when I first bought it, back when it was released.
You want to know why Chrono Trigger isn't considered revolutionary? Because hardly anyone bought it. The only reason it's popular today, is because everyone and their aunt's have downloaded it.

Inconclusive.

I want a remake. I liked FF7, but never managed to finish it because the 3rd CD kept going hayware, so I want a remake, even if just for fun.
Also, you people may say what you want, I hope they make it with the KH2/FF12 system of controlling Cloud while other characters act on their on, without the loading times to attack, and the ability to jump.

It was a great game for it's time. It's a little annoying to keep hearing people harp about it, but it did a lot for the genre. Now, if only people could get over it...

NO. No more stupid FF7 crap!
It's a crappy game that has been milked to death with crappy spin-offs.
LET IT DIE.
You want to know the REAL reason that FF7 is so popular? It sure as hell isn't storyline or gameplay! The reason it's so popular is because of fangirls. They love the effeminate look of Cloud and Sephiroth and couldn't give two shits about anything else.
If you want me to get into just why FF7 is a terrible game, I will. But I choose to keep my posts short for now.

Oh, shut up, hating FF7 is so overrated. You know why hating FF7 is so popular? It's sure not because of bad storyline or gameplay! The reason it's so popular is because of people who feel superior and want to say "Hey, I disliked this game, and so everyone also should!"
Grow up. Seriously.
-
I disliked the game is all. While I HIGHLY believe it is VASTLY overrated, its still a good game. Just not as good as its cracked out to be.

I didn't aim that at you, no need to explain yourself. One thing is saying "I dislike the game." other is "The game is crap and aways will be, because of this and this and that, and even though there are people over here who like it I'll go and prove by logic that they shouldn't, because it's not good and only fangirls think otherwise!"
Also, it IS overrated, no complaint in that, it's not a perfect game, but there's no denying a large group of people love it. Me included.
-
I don't hate it because it's popular/popular to be hated, I hate it because it sucks.
I could stand to like it if it the story focused more on shinra and fighting them than on some effeminate male who wants to be a god. I could also like it more if it wasn't milked to death with constant spin-offs.
-
We're not talking about the franchise here, we're just talking about the game itself. The spinoffs were pointless, I agree with you on that. It's just a company getting desperate and symbolises the decline of the videogame industry in general.
But... FF7 is for fangirls? 0_o Wouldn't fangirls prefer characters you can actually see, rather than blocky blobs of colour wandering around?
-
You want to know what game IS overrated, and without much reason?
Chrono Trigger.

Effeminate men with large "swords".
-
Well you know what they say about people who see phallic symbols in everyday objects...
-
Fun fact: A sword doesn't represent a penis, it represents the dorsal spine, the backbone.
Least was what my philosophy teacher said. He also said pretty weird things like that the world is actually upside-down and our eyes is what adjust it so it's up.
Anyway, back on topic, point is: You may hate the game all you want, just don't say it's bad when there's someone who likes it nearby.

*glances up at various fangirl comments*
*realizes she is both fan and girl*
At least for me there are other reasons... really if I wanted pretty video game men I wouldn't turn to FFVII ^^
Nah, FFVII is the first RPG (outside of Pokemon) I ever played and loved. It was my gateway drug, I guess. But a remake would inevitably cross stupid things like DoC and AC. I mean, really, Vincent's story was all fine and dandy until DIRGE OF CERBERUS popped up like a giant swollen pimple on his oddly grayish girly man face. And all the males, even Barret, lost a lot of their little remaining testosterone with the new character designs. If they could do it, right, yes. Same battle system, everything. Of course, this would mean none of the bugs I routinely exploit *hides w-item materia*... and I'd love to see at least VIII revamped. I still don't like IX quite as much... but a remake would help! Hey, they sorta revamped V and Vi, as well as the ports of older games. I don't doubt that it will happen. Of course, since KH has gripped the newer fanbase, they would field millions of angry e-mails from fangirls saying "WTF HIS NAME IS LEON DUMBASS!!!"

I agree with her... Except the FFIX part. And I'd like to add that FFXII is even worse... And it only has one sequel.

So now I can't express my personal opinion?
I am still completely opposed to a remake of FF7 and you know why? The story has been completely fleshed out to the point where it can't be remade without an IMMENSE amount of retconning. All that could be improved on would be the graphics and the translation, and that isn't enough. When one wants to remake a game they want to have the story clearer and the gameplay improved. However, the story has been completely told by the subsequent spin-offs, and the gameplay was already at its peak. To remake this game would simply appeal to the fangirls and *shudder* fanboys of the game. A veritable "cash cow".
Also, take into account how the PS3 is doing right now. If MGS4 sucks, then that's it. If FF13 sucks, then that's it. The expectations of those two titles is the entire reason that the NOGAEMSTATION 3 hasn't sunk.
And, should those two games jump ship and go third party (which SE has been leaning towards doing) then the PS3, once again, will flop.
Thus, due to the instability of the Playstation 3, and the possibility that it's economic support could crumble at any given moment, SE would never develop a remake of FF7. I'll present to you a little lesson: Companies don't make games for art or fun, they make games for money.
-
I would love a remake of ffix, but they'd butcher ffvii. and if they made an ffix remake i'd have to go through all the chocograph quests again........ :|

I'm fine with people saying "It sucks!" which is fine, but then they add "And everyone who likes it is a fangirl, because the story sucked and gameplay too."
With that you are:
A ) Insulting every male who plays it.
B ) Derrogating every female who plays it (wether you want or not, "fangirl" is not simply a term for people who are fans and girls anymore).
C ) Using it as a counter argument for everything we say. Example: "Oh, but the story is good." "Only for the fangirls who like their girly men."
D ) Expressing your opinions as universal truths, corrobated by the fact that if anyone said "Well, that's only YOUR opinion" you would react, maybe with "evidence", maybe with expeculation, but you would.
I like this game, I'm not a fangirl, I'm not a fanboy, I'm simply someone who bought this game, played, and had fun while doing so, if you don't like it, say you don't like it, don't add "And I can name 100 reasons why it sucks." It has the same effect as saying "Hey, Grandy, I know you like this game, but man you are ever so stupid to do it, stupid. The game is for girly people you know? You're girly. Girly and stupid. Stupid"
Also, yeah, companies don't make games for fun, they make for money, which has nothing to do with this discussion and I don't know where you brought that up from.
It didn't change the fact that I and many others liked FF7, and that we want a remake.
-
Oh, but whenever did I call everyone who played the game and liked it fanboys/girls? Let's look back a bit, shall we?

Clearly I'm not stating that players who liked it were fangirls/fanboys. I'm merely stating that the hype and the immense popularity did mostly come from said people.

Not calling everyone who liked it a fanboy/girl here either. I'm sure you know that companies cater to fans, not to regular players.
So, please don't make false accusations. Not only does it make you look bad, but it makes this forum look bad.
The money thing was that it wouldn't be profitable for SE to make it. Recently Sony hasn't been doing all too well, and they're taking a big risk by making FF13 on the PS3 as it is. If they WERE to make a remake, they would wait either until the sales of the PS3 pick up, or see if FF13 sells well enough to warrant "remilking" FF7.
Look past your nostalgia goggles. You might just learn something.

Seems I misunderstood you, you didn't say we are all fangirls or fanboys, but that we like it because we were deceived by them, not because we actually formed an opinion about it, is that it?

See, that's the kind of comment that I hate, as I said, I'm okay with you not liking it, but that comment just makes it look like you think you're smarter than me, what with "Oh, you might learn something".
Okay, 'teacher', I'm without any nostalgia googles:
Cons - Graphic sucks, dull battle system, not enough sidequests, Cloud's personality lacks a good deal, game froze on CD3... can't find anything else, really.
Pros - Good story, catchy tunes, insteresting locations, not extremily hard, good minigames.
Again, and average to good game, like I was saying since the beggining, the game is not perfect, but I like it, and I don't think I was brainwashed by fangirls to think so.
-
lol this happens every year right?
Final Fantasy 7 is the most popular (or maybe most recognizable) Final Fantasy game; neither of you can deny that, and I for one loved the intro using ps3 hardware. I never touched any of the spin-offs. (what is Crisis Core on? PsP?)
Anyways... a FF6 or 4(DS?? I never knew) remake in 3D would be cool. I just finished playing 6 for like 6th time. It would be nice to see all of Yoshitaka Amano's designs really applied in the actual game play.
Lol @ apex I never hear about Chrono Trigger anymore, even though I'm playing it again. I barely even see fanart. I want to play Chrono Cross again, too.
-
..Do ou two really need to fight about this? Seriously, take it to unmod.
Personally, I probably won't get the PS3 until a year before the PS4 comes out lol. That always happens to me. So, If I do get the chance, I'd get FF7. I never truly got to play it. I mean, I got to play like up until the first boss.
