i havent started a good AoA topic in a while...
I figured with the amount of tomfoolery around here, It would be good to get srs.
And by that i mean, discuss things...current events.
Almost like a forum game...there are rules
You may post a link to a new article to back your crap up
You should probably make an effort not to be a retard and argue about things you dont know about
You should try and blow our collective minds with awesome stories that dont really get to scathe the surface of charas that often.
Post a link to your event.
Give a bit of input. Discuss.
THE IRL SCIENTOLOGY RAIDS...or the whole chanology thing.
(Im not going to link to Any chans or ED...you mufukas can google that)
NBC COVERAGE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiiKM34sIQA&feature=related)
And another bucket of sweet....
WE ARE GOING TO DIE. (the large headron collider) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider)
Project Chanology: Anon is getting to the point wherein the name itself is nearly an oxymoron. Allthough im glad to see something aside from longcat and trolling the habbo come about. If it wasnt for this whole thing, I wouldnt have facts to back up how fagbot CoS is. But even then.... Some of the local news coverage ive seen paints anon up to look like a bunch of idiot kids. Comments to the news like "We just really want to show people that CoS is a cult" is pretty lame. I read the paper, and hoped that the protestors would bring up solid numbers and some ACTUAL events....all the quotes i got to read about were "Cults suck. Knowledge is free. Cencorship is wrong."
It was a win in some ways....but it was kind of lame too. Thats my take.
The LHC: holy crap. Some of the potential disaster scenarios lick balls. Probably nothing to worry about, but the possibility of the earth becoming the epicenter for a fluck of dark matter is alarming.

I ran across the LEC thing a while ago but totally forgot about it. It's beginning operation in May 2008 huh? That's pretty soon. In any event, I don't get the doomsday vibe from it you apparently do. People have been worrying about these types of devices pretty much ever since they were thought up. Apparently the universe is tougher than we give it credit for me.
Oh, and "strangelet" has to be one of the best high science terms EVAR.
-
ill pretty much second that. Seconded by "strange matter" it sounds like green goo that eats your soul
Im pretty sure no mass death will occur. but we do have the possibility of some groundbreaking new particle physics. Maybe a bomb to destroy the universe.
Im pretty sure they will figure out how to cross parallel dimension with this at some point.
They can teleport photons
they figure parallels are more probable than string or chaos theory
they can make instant mayonase with a particle accelorater
????

This whole Chanology thing, I hate it.
I mean, sure it's nice to see someone take it to Scientology, which horrifies me more than anything else on this planet, but to use the name Anonymous like that, it's just embarrassing.

Forget star trek conventions, this wins the nerdiest gathering award.

Agreed. I wanted to participate initially as a friend of mine was going (He didn't go btw) but after I saw what was going on on the news... I wanted to barf. Honestly. It was just a bunch of punk asses that didn't really give a **** but were "doing it for the lolz". Goddamnit.
EDIT: Checked Grandy's link. That was sad.
-
I quite frankly liked it.
I mean, half-hearted protest is still protest. Besides, I know for a thing that any protest really serious would soon evolve into a fight.
No, really, this was a protest as good as the others.

Dunno if you guys know or care, but over here in Puerto Rico, some politicians desperate for votes have started to appeal to the (uber-)religious [STRIKE]zealots[/STRIKE] people, and are moving to raise heterosexual marriage to a constitutional level. One of them was quoted, "When I did this, I was thinking of God."
Granted, the act itself would require several million dollars, and seeing as Puerto Rico is a hop, skip, and a jump from a recession, many are against the motion, making the uber-religious population BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW.
Also: seeing as the island is so close to a recession, the recent news that $50,000 dollars was spent on a recent renovation to capital hall's bathrooms caused a bit of an outrage to the civilian populace.
No news; puertorican newspaper sites suck.
I also supported Anon's fight against Cashology. All Hail Xenu!

Fidel Castro resigned.
Yay or nay?
-
Not like he was really in charge anyways, his brother Raul was running the show.

Local News. . .,there was the Northern Illinois University shooting. That's been getting a lot of coverage.

There's the strange midwestern weather and ice storms. I'm on day 2 of a 4 day weekend because of it.
http://www.bnd.com/breaking_news/story/262565.html
The weather has really been bothering us here. It's been changing rapidly from warm to cold weather outside. There was a day where the weather began as hot and cloudless with no wind chill, only to shift into a rainstorm and a serious blizzard in an afternoon. It was really dangerous driving home that night. We've had some strange weather patterns that I've never heard of. There are lightning storms during the snow. There was even a thunderstorm yesterday, except that instead of rain we had sleet. There was a tornado mentioned a month ago, which is odd for the winter here.
That's what I've got.
btw does anyone know why my links and photos never work? If this helps, I'm using Firefox.

Political scientists arent predicting much change with castro out. as his brother assumed office.

On the opposite note....well not really opposite but contrasting
I am on my last day of working in the frozen tundra of the northern canadian prairies
Usually this time of year -20 to -40 celcius is the average temperature.
For the last week its been -5 to +10 here. And this has been happening quite often. Off and on that is. Global warming is comfy this year for gemini

I'm kinda glad America's being hit with the ice storms and super hurricanes rather than a country that's actually trying to lower it's pollution.
I'm not saying any of the american charasians have anything to do with it, because there's not much you can do right now, but I'm still not happy with the attitude of your government and stuff on the subject.

It's the majority, not the sane, that make it in there. :|
-
I'm just not happy with America in general.
When I'm in power, all you American Charas members will be invited to "visit my secret holiday island". There will be no newspapers or TV there. So that you won't know that your country has mysteriously exploded.
Sorry to be so Draggy-ish.
-
You people should learn that we are American as well, you know? ¬¬

News flash on the 'Marriage will be constitutional!' thing...
People have let their voices be heard: They DEMAND that the senators take vote on the subject as well. A spokesperson was quoted saying, "The senators claim that the majority of the population are fundamentalists who are in favor of this law. I set my watch and warrant that this is not the case."
Looks like it's gonna be a tough time for those politicians...^_^

i always figured that with the whole "seperation of church and state thing" than gay marriage should never have been an issue. its a legal bond, not a moral one. And having more double income no-kids family units will help any non-communist nations economy. Debating it is so frustratingly inneficient.....
As for as economics go, they should be encouraging gay marriage

I think the part where those muslims/islamists encourage their children to kill the Danes are quite serious... All since some danish guy drew a comic of mohammed...
Still, yeah. Get over it. That's what we do.
And the climate?
I think it's rather funny when the day begins with a cloudy sky and strong winds, then it begins to rain around noon, snow around afternoon and then bright sunlight at the evening. It all ended with snow again around midnight...
There was almost no snow in december and then we had autuum, winter and spring weather in January. Then when we(and all the animals n' flowers) thought it was going to keep being like that... It began to snow in february...
All our birds returned, we had potatoes, flowers, bugs even ducks returning and then there was snow and voila'; ecosystem is rather doomed now.... I donno if there will be any hedgehogs or anything left.
-
To gemini, we were talking about this in a class today, and the Student Republican kid would agree with you. It has nothing do to with politics. It was pretty surprising.

We like beef. We cannot stop the cow farts.

Well, while it may sound good, its a little hard to separate church and state 100% in a country founded by devoutly religious men. When it was instated, the separation of church and state was intended not to forbid "God" in the pledge, but to prevent someone from claiming divine right to power as was the way in Britain, the country they founded America to be freed from.
-
But does it say anywhere written that there's a seperation of Church and State?
I think it's hilarious that there's a TV show in New Zeland that comes over to the states to make fun of Americans. And I am one. That's the scary thing.
