Title: Poison Planet Chapter One COMPLETED
Post by: Red Giant on April 02, 2008, 01:48:13 AM
Okay this is a little late, but I'm proud to present one of my many pet projects: Poison Planet.

Plot Outline:
In a world not unlike our own there lives a humble man by the name of Alexander Basil, or Lex to his friends. He lives alone, has a rotten job and his social life is fleeting. To put it bluntly, his life is boring.
But all this is about to change.
It starts with an e-mail- a strange warning from a sender he is unfamiliar with, going only by the psedonym "Red." And from there it only goes downhill.
A pharmeceutical company announces a breakthrough miracle drug. A war is announced on a neighbouring continent. A strange group of government agents take in Lex for questioning. A giant meteor tears into a dense forest. Lex is about to learn how all these events are connected to each other and, ultimately, him.
Open the floodgates.

Thanks, means a lot. I was really going for something that had an important message rather than something that was hella big, you know?

I played it. Damn cool. I like how you managed to fit character development in there with everything else. The mark of a good game designer is balancing everything like that :D

^ What he said. You really developed Lex's character well. And considering the length of the game that's some accomplishment. You done good, Red.

I look forward to chapter 2. If it's anything like this it ought to be fantastic.

I agree with all these other fewls. This is by far the best rpgmaker game I've ever played. You focused on what's important most: keeping the player entertained. No need for fancy maps, super awesome graphics, lighting fx, super cool custom systems. This is what rpgmaker is all about. You win, sir. I <3 Poison Planet

Wow....Its hard for me to absorb that all. SO much happened.
I was laughing my *** off, but only because i was sort of nervous, on account of the general creepiness....Was the sex scene really necessary?

I cant say this is the best RM game ive played though...But Im definatly pegging it into the top five. Only because i cant respect myself for calling this my favorite...It was a bit too....controversial? Unsettling? I just got way too much of an insight to lex's superego there

I sat down, expected to play a serious and interesting game, started playing, and when I reached 'the end' screen, I sat on my chair for five minutes.
The way I felt was undescribable. I felt like hot peanut butter was being poured into my butthole.

I just don't know what to say.

Oh my god. I don't understand how people can make games like these. As a game itself, it was enjoyable, but the length kept it from being "the ultimate single-player experience". What really made this game so brilliant, was the endlessly beautiful story.

I also loved how you managed to blend comedy and thriller seamlessly. The sex scene was a bit over the top though, there's nothing wrong with sprite porn but it belongs in parody games and not masterpieces like this.

Also, I didn't see anyone else mentioning it... Did anyone but me find the alternate ending? I get the feeling there might have been more than one alternate ending though.

Holy ****. We have witnessed the birth of a masterpiece unlike any other. A true RPG Maker classic... That so many people will never play because it's just an RPG Maker game. I pity them.

5/5, this is certainly one of the highlights of the year so far... Along with Into the Wild, Machinae Supremacy's new album "Overworld" and the fourth season of Lost.

You made my day.  :bend:

I think its funny how more "reviews" and comments were written for this game then actual games.  LOL

Just because it's short, it doesn't mean it's not a game. There's a lot more depth to it than there seems to be at the first glance.

Please don't spoil the thread with your offtopicness.

Also, Red, there's a pathing error, in the room where you start the wall is walkable. I know you forgot about this because that chipset isn't used except for the starting room and you don't spend too much time in the starting room.

Teaches you to not just follow the plot and see what happens. You should've gotten the antidote from the chemist, just show him the documents from Red and he'll give it to you for free.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 10, 2008, 07:47:51 PM
I never got the documents. I think it might be a hole in the coding because I think you're supposed to get them, but I never did. Thank God you can still buy the antidote. I think it's a little expensive though, repeating the blackjack minigame to earn all that money takes a heck of a long time.

That's really my only complaint, the rest of the game was flawless.

I know... ugh... I had to start the WHOLE THING over since I saved after I missed the opportunity to get the antidote.. I know it isn't very long, but still, that forest part was a bitch.

Oh and Drag, that's really weird that you never got the documents. Red leaves them by your doorstep and the game had a cutscene that forced me to pick them up.

Title:

I agree. Are you sure you didn't mix up files from a different game by mistake?

Also, about the documents, on the second play through I got them without problems. It's kinda odd that the cutscene never triggered the first time round.

How awesome was the bit with the sunken power plant? You know, where you find out that
Red is your cousin
. That was awesome. But my FAVORITE bit was when you fight the cloned Razorback and finish it off with that giant cannon! The CBS made it even better.

Also, regarding the dancing man, its a rare glitch caused by a hidden trojan in your version of rm2k3. i suggest you delete your system32 folder. That may fix it.
Or destroy your version of windows......
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 12, 2008, 04:45:00 PM
Agreed, I reckon someone's been screwing with your files and putting stupid things in them. Clear your files out, download the game properly, and kindly stop polluting this thread.

The game folder is so small because Red has very cleverly been able to re-use the same graphics multiple times for different things.
Did anyone else notice that the fog in the "batteries" puzzle room was actually the title screen, magnified and made semi-transparent? Genius, I tell you.
So, to conclude, shut up.
Title:
Post by: HobomasterXXX on April 13, 2008, 07:16:55 AM
By the way, did any of you guys get the giant's sword of destruction? I think it was the coolest looking weapon in the game.
Title:
Post by: Ben on April 13, 2008, 07:27:12 AM
I got it, and it was pretty cool looking, but its was so inconsitient.

Did you finish all 12 levels of the shooter game? For the life of me I cant get past ten. Honestly, I think its impossible.

ALSO:
Yeah the trojans are called "TWAIN" and "KERNEL" They arent in your 2K3, but usually embed themselves if you have the Don Miguel version. Just find those, and Send em to your reycle bin. They are usually in your System32 folder (which is pretty much all useless crap anyhow. Ive completly deleted mine and my computer is running fast as a  quad core)

I managed to do ten after about an hour of thinking about it. Aim to the left of the targets when they're going across, not directly at them. They're further away than the previous targets. Also, picking the rifle as the gun you want to use makes it easier because it can go through one target and hit the one behind it as well, which makes it easier when one of them hides behind the other.

Eleven is impossible though. Like, seriously. None of the guns you have are capable of reloading fast enough.

The physics in that shooter game are kinda clever though. Kudos for that.

Post by: HobomasterXXX on April 14, 2008, 06:54:07 AM
By the way, who did you choose for your party in act 2? I chose Clera because i had no good healers.
Title:
Post by: lilsniffs3 on April 14, 2008, 07:27:28 AM
I chose Ricksley. By the way Dragonium, I friggin' suck, I can't get past level 5 in that. Those Cyborg Ninjas are real cheapos.
Title:
Post by: Halfling on April 15, 2008, 01:08:04 PM
Ricksley is crap, his weapons are **** againts robots, that's why you can't get past those ninjas.

I chose Frank, since his explosives sure pack a punch.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 15, 2008, 02:56:12 PM
Explosives are hard to aim though. Don't use them for the shooter game. Like I said, choose the rifle.

As to the ninjas, they only pop up on either the extreme left or extreme right. They usually alternate between the two. Don't worry about it, they don't give that much of a points bonus.

By the way, did anyone manage to
solve Ian's second riddle? I couldn't figure out the answer at all. Thank god you can bribe him to let you past.
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on April 17, 2008, 07:18:38 PM
Drag:
The answer to Ian's second riddle was the letter X. You need to answer it by bringing him the seemingly useless picture of the X that's hanging on the wall of the inn. The game only lets you take it once you're presented with the riddle.
Pretty clever, huh?
Title:
Post by: Ben on April 17, 2008, 08:07:15 PM
somebody should write a walkthrough for this
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on April 17, 2008, 08:34:37 PM
You could probably split it into 8 parts really, if you wanted to make a walkthrough

Red's message
Ian's Riddle
Captured by the enemy
Kratos (I think the whole issure with that dude deserves a section)
Ricksley's story
Old town (And the power plant bit could go here too)
Lena's secret
Lane of the dead

Each of us could maybe do a walkthrough of one section, so it's less work and more detailed. Then someone could describe the secrets and sidequests that aren't area specific.

I can't wait to see what happens after the lane of the dead really, Red. You left us on a bit of a cliffhanger >.> At the time it was just cool but now I want more :p
Title:
Post by: HobomasterXXX on April 18, 2008, 09:00:53 AM
Wow! I think i just found the coolest party member yet! Getting him/her involves a long and hard side quest, but it's SO worth it!

This is how you get him/her (you must be up to Old town at least)-
Get Theo in your party, you'll need his hacking skills. Now go to the town of the lost. It will be empty, as usual. But if you go into the inn, you will see a rat on the ground. Run up to it, and attempt to interact with it. It will run away, and you will receive an email on your laptop. Check it, and it will seem empty. But if you scroll down, you will see an attachment. It will be encrypted. This is where Theo comes in. Use his hack skill to unencrypt the data. You will get something called Mysterious-AI. Seems useless at the moment, but you'll need it later. Now comes the hard bit. You have to backtrack ALL THE WAY the internment camp ON FOOT. After you've made it there, go into Cell 89-3. The wall will be cracked. Smash it with a physical blow (any character with a decent strength stat will do) and go inside. You will be in a very advanced looking computer room. Go up to the large monitor on the left and activate it. A menu will appear. Choose "Break Seal". Suddenly there will be a flash of light, and a battle will begin. You have to defeat the security cannons. Just keep attacking and healing when necessary. it shouldn't be too hard. Then you can go into the big door in the back of the room. Inside, you will see a deactivated robot. Get Theo to implant the "Mysterious AI" into the robot. It will suddenly activate! It will introduce itself and then you will be able to customize it in the big machine. You can choose Gender, Appearance, Class, Skills and Stats. After that he/she will join your party.
This should have been aprils game ofthe month.
Title:
Post by: lilsniffs3 on April 18, 2008, 08:15:17 PM
I started over. I chose a secret character.
When choosing your character, select Cancel. The guard will ask "Are you sure?" Say "yes." Head back to the enmy base.  You will be captured by the enemy again, and go through the Kratos plot over again. You will get two Kratos'. You can choose characters over. There will be a few new characters. I chose James.
James- Has a guided rocket. Use the arrows.
Roger- Long sword.
Priss- She's just plain kick-*** using a katana.
James kicks butt during the shooting game
Plus, did anyone give money to the Hobo outside the Power Plant?
Give him 100. He gives you a map. Switch to your gunman. Shoot him. Take the money. Try leaving. You get 1000 dollars from a policeman.
