Title: Sonic Fadventure
Post by: pimp_named_slinkback on April 13, 2008, 05:06:21 PM
This is a game I had started last summer with a trial of RPG Maker XP, but I lost everything when my computer crashed. I didn't really like XP much anyway, so I turned to 2003. I like it a lot better, especially the 3rd person battles. Anyway... I'll get info on this game posted up in just a sec. I need to copy and paste it from another forum XD.

EDIT: Here we go...

Heroes
Sonic (with Super, Hyper, and Darkspine forms)
Shadow (With Super Form)
Knuckles (with Super Form)
Mighty
Kirby
Mario
Luigi
Silver (with Super Form)
Tails (with Super Form)
Espio
Vector
Megaman X
Zero
Olimar
And many more...

Enemies Missing Things
Mecha Sonic from STH3
Silver Mecha Sonic, you know, the first Mecha Sonic I think
King DeDeDe
Chaos 0
Mephiles
Dammit, what was the name of the final boss in Pikmin 2 again?
Sigma (X1)
Vile (X1)
And many more...

Unlockable Characters
Fancharacters
Mcleodgaming
1.) Blade-theoriginalblade
2.) Spikeman-spikeman
3.) Azreal-Phratt
4.)
5.)
6.)
7.)
8.)

20.)

Not Fancharacters
Inuyasha

Bomberman
Captain Falcon
Ray the Squirrel
Louie
Link
Ganondorf
Pikachu
And many more...

It's the plot of most, if not all, Sonic games rolled into one game but with a twist! That means you'll see and fight characters from all over the place like Chaos, the Biolizard, Alf Layla Wa-Layla, Metal Sonic along with Mecha Sonic and even Silver Sonic, Mephiles, and of course various Robotnik/Eggman machines. Now, the thing is though, I haven't played all of these games. That's why I'm gonna need your help for some of them. Now where was I? Oh yeah, the twist! The twist is that there's a major, secret, and unrevealed villain that's trying to cause chaos across the universe by mixing up the heroes of various worlds around. Which means you'll have crazy moments where you fight Sigma alongside Kirby, Dedede with Mario, Metal Sonic with X, and etc. It's gonna be an awesome and bumpy ride!

I don't think I left out anything... Oh! That list of Unlockable characters. If you have a fancharacter that has all the requirements to be playable in RPG Maker 2003, and if I think he/she is good enough, I'll add them to the game! Okay, NOW I think that's everything... I hope.

I don't like where this is going >.>

YEH KNOW... I believe the Ghost Busters game made this very same mistake, praising their own game.  It was kind of the last nail in that game's coffin.  Yeh might not wanna 'force' the idea that your game is gonna be awesom, it doesn't go well.  XD

And just what do you mean by that? Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT:
By that statement, I was mostly referring to the crazy plot, not the game itself. Sorry, I can see how that could be misinterpreted.

This is what comes up when one trys to fathom what a Sega Super Smash Brothers would be like. Not that it's a bad idea... I was interested what tone you were taking with this... I assume this is somewhat comic...? Anyway, looks interesting enough... If you needed game info, which games haven't you played? Would help prospective information-volunteers what to supply.

*facepalm*
THAT'S something I forgot! The games I've never played. Lemme see, there's

Sonic Next Gen
SAB1
Sonic Battle

Hmmm, was that it? I thought there was more... Well actually there is, but I'm not including some games. Oh, and yeah, a Sega SSB is kinda what pops into my head too. But the storyline's going to be much different, and unlike SSBB, it'll be centered more on 1 character than all of them equally.

Oh, great... I only played the first four or so... Never mind. Anyway, the character focus is something that permanently inhibits SSB, so you should be able to get a decent plot in there. Anyway, I'll be happy when you get screenshots up.

I cant help but think you're trying to cram too many cameos into one game here.

If you were ONLY using sonic characters, I may be a bit more optimistic for you, but when you start throwing Megaman, and King Dedede into the mix, I cant help but do a bit of a facepalm myself.

I hope sincerely that you prove me wrong though.

...The **** is darkspine and hyper Sonic?

Needs more Jotaro Kujo. Star Platinum on your ***.

Darkspine is from the crap next-gen game,
Hyper is from one of the classics.

Hm, what's Jotaro Kujo? I'll look into it. After all, there's still plenty of room for unlockable characters.

Yeah, that was one of my first thoughts was that I', cramming too much into it. In fact, I probably will end up cutting some of these characters. But I'm keeping Megaman and Mario storylines in for sure. I love them too much to boot them ^_^. I'm debating something... I'm thinking of two options:

A.) Cut Inuyasha from the unlockables and keep this between video game characters.

or

B.) Adding more Anime characters like Naruto & Sasuke, Luffy & Zolo, etc.

I mean, keeping the Anime characters WOULD probably increase the popularity of the game, and yet I still do wanna keep that game feel. Maybe I could just put a tight limit on the Anime characters... Like only 5 or so. What do you guys think?

I doubt that those anime characters will increase the popularity in a sonic fan game to be honest; It's not like people are going to buy Soul Calibur just because Darth vader and Yoda is in it.

Try to keep it as smooth as possible and as true to the characters as you can in case you're going with this idea.
I had a game with the mog brothers(all the different kinds of moogles) and then you could read this book wich swapped characters and took you elsewhere and you eventually got a party of Link, Pikachu, Slime and Frog(CT).
And believe me, it wasn't a succes. Link talked all the time and became a wuz, pikachu was just a cute pet, slime was.... A slime, a bitchy slime. And Frog was the heroic cliché hero.
So try to cut down on characters unless you really know what you're doing.

Here's something to consider: It sounds like some of these characters will be in and out of your party pretty quickly. The main draw of rpgs is that you train up the characters... You get what I'm saying? Either you'll have four good characters and the rest will be left in the change party screen or, if the characters come and go due to the plot, the player will never feel settled and won't spend time investing in the characters.

Just a thought.

I'm getting SC4 because of Yoda...
>_>
<_<
But anyway, thanks for the comments guys. To answer in order:

Yes, I'm pretty much only choosing characters that I KNOW. Sonic will be the laid back guy you all know who's always up for an adventure. Same with the other characters. Trust me, I'm definately one of those people who's annoyed when people get characters' personalities WAY off. I'm making it as important to nail these characters spot on as it is important to even make the game at all!

I've thought of the party changes, and I sorta-kinda have a soloution. When I'm done, I'm going to try add a bit of replay value by allowing players to go through again, but without most of the cutscenes and you start out being able to choose from the full party. Plus, I'm also gonna add a bonus level to mess around on where you can choose who you want and replay certain parts of the game.

Finally, I have an announcement. It doesn't directly affect the game, but this will be much easier now. I'm moved into my grandparents' house! My house has had no internet for months, so now that I'm moved HERE, I'll have the full use of the internet to help me with the game. Oh, and I'll probably put up some charsets and such up on this site.

Eeeugh, Fancharacters mixed with canon and non-sequitur characters from other series? Not good by any account. You have a few options as to how you might fix this.

- Play as fancharacters ONLY. Canon characters are NPCs. No other-series cameos. Workable, but more than a little ego-stroking, and is kind of an empathetic barrier to those who aren't familiar with your char.
- Play as the canon characters, and have the Fancharacters as NPCs. This is a great deal less ego-stroking; and more accessible to people who aren't familiar with Chronic The Echidnahedgefox's DARK PAST.
- Canon characters only, no fan characters. Best possible, IMO. That's not to say that you don't create new character designs; just not any that are meant to represent yourself.
- Smash Bros. esque, having an even mix of characters from different series. This could work out well, but like sonic fancharacters, it's crushingly cliché. I would actually respect you a great deal if you left out Mario. Having a series crossover without using MARIO VS SONIC OMG as a crutch really takes some guts.

Owch.

Offer advice, but there's no point in telling him exactly how to make it... If this turns out to be a mistake, he'll learn from it. Better that he follows his main ideas than changing it drastically to please the public.

Hey, that's a little melodramatic. Listing likely solutions to character setup isn't going to change the game *that* much; maybe to the storyline at most.

Sometimes directness is the best approach. Yeah, I'll admit I'm being a little harsh here, but it would just be plain mean if I'm really damn sure there are better options than the method currently taken; and just said nothing to avoid possible defensive backlash. And who said the methods I listed are the only solutions? These are just the most obvious.

Not to mention it would suck if he got a good way into this, and *then* there were complaints of character inclusion and setup.

Hey, I'm not questioning your right to criticise. I just didn't like how it was delivered. You said it like the game was a total mess that he had to save. A new dude like him might end up bending over backwards trying to please everyone and forget that they're making the game for themselves.

I'm not including the fancharacters in the story. They're unlockable extras. And I think I'll actually consider removing Mario...
