Characters (Last names have very little in-game impact)

Name: Regal Shalten
Age: 19
Role: Main character
Nationality: Ordeian Principality
Biography: Regal is the son of a gypsy and a minstrel, though he seems to hide it the best he can. He rarely speaks of his past, though there is nothing truly dark that he has to hide. Barely days after Regal first turned sixteen, the caravan he grew up with headed south, near a port town. Regal hid himself among the various crewmen and passengers on a boat south, to the Sacres Kingship. He could not have arrived at a worse time, a strange energy destroying most of the population of the entire country. He was one of the few, lucky survivors, saved by the silhouette of a man bearing a sword, nameless to this day. Since that day, Regal has lived job-to-job and city-to-city, over time growing attached to using his body, sculpted by years of living on the road, for fighting.

Name: Tulip Eukal
Age: 18
Role: Supporting character
Nationality: Sacres Kingship
Biography: Little is confirmed about Tulip Eukal other than to herself. Born to a hermit, she naturally feels out of place, especially living so close to Sacres. Regardless of the Spire just recently appearing, she seems to always stay close to it, ritually returning. While sensitive on the subject, Tulip does reveal much more about her personal life, including family. She has three sisters, one of which had disappeared without a trace close to the day that Sacres was destroyed.
Name: Leonel Florrent
Age: 32 At death
Role: Sub-villain
Biography: Leonel was the commander of the Celeste Rebellion three years ago. Widely believed to be the one to blame for the destruction of Castle Sacres many years ago, little is known about him. While often depicted in paintings as a black armored man cloaked in fire, Leonel was a skillful user of forbidden magics, as well as swordsmanship, and wore a pearl colored armor, always keeping close his sword 'Scarmiglion'. This sword was a strange combination between a huge, hiltless claymore and the blade of an axe in place of a hilt.
Name: Julies Sacres
Age: 54
Role: King of Sacres
Biography: While he is not the perfect leader, it is clear Julies works himself closer to death than any one could during the Rebellion wars keeping Sacres standing. He is among the first of the kings to break the tradition of directly leading his troops into battle, for what he claims are reasons of illness. While he appear frail, it is clear he's a very dangerous man on many levels. Julies was one of the men closest to the blast that destroyed Sacres, the fact that he stands at all today is nothing short of a miracle. Because of being so close, however, he was left nearly blind, and barely strong enough to lift himself off his throne.
Name: Marcus Celeste (Sacres)
Age: 28 at death
Role: King of the Celeste Rebellion, Prince of Sacres
Biography: Marcus is widely known as the leader of the Celest Rebellion, as well as the Prince of Sacres. Tragically, the same efforts taken to end his rebellion ended not only his life, but the life of his mother. It was never his intention to rebel against his father, but rather to emancipate himself from kingship. The traditions of Sacres and it's people were ridiculous in his eyes. He never intended to have Sacres itself destroyed, and never intended to let his plans be corrupted by Leonel.
History:
The beginning:
Nearly everything about the origins of life are completely shrouded in mystery. Little evidence is given to favor one theory or another, as well. There is no one single most popular belief.
The first generation
Civilization began in very humble ways. Small tribes, usually of only twenty, wandered aimlessly, each unsure that there were even others. During those days, monsters were at unmanageable levels, living in greater numbers than humans today.
Four dominant tribes slowly gathere together, four nameless, tiny specks of life, as far as the monsters were concerned. The humans began to observe the monsters lives, watching them gather together and build strange structures of stones and branches. This is where the idea of towns came from. Time went on, and after about five years, the first of the tribes began to die (the average life span was 25, due to illness). Time went on, and the children of the first generation continued observing the monsters, and eventually began imitating them, including their reverence of a strange twin-horned creature with the head and chest of a human, and the long arms and legs of a monster, sometimes even four giant draconic wings...
The Rebellion Wars
Records of the past are gone, and nearly all things once known about origins are gone. The years after the birth of life itself have been forgotten, and humanity has flourished into the dominant land dwelling race. Monstrous opposition, however, is not the last of the fears of man. Man envies man, killing one another over greed and ignorance. This corruption spreads past the common people, reaching to the highest of powers among humans, to the lowest.
The Prince of Sacres, Marcus Sacres, demanded independence from the laws of Kingship, going as far as threatening to kill his father to see his demands met. When his threats were not taken seriously, he left the castle in secrecy, gathering followers among the people. He gathered few followers initially, most turned off by the idea of being led by an 18 year old kid they hardly knew. This continued for five years, until he finally left Sacres, leaving his father with what he thought was a dead, missing son. Just barely a few miles from Sacres, near the site the Spire appeared in eight years later, and formed the Celeste Rebellion, with his general Leonel Florrent at his side.
Few records are kept of the war, most the witnesses dead and those who didn't die from the blast, executed for attempting to write forbidden material. Julies was left bitter at the death of his wife and son, and did not wish to remember those sad days.
Controls
Space, enter: Melee attack
Shift: Ranged attack
1: Jump forward
2: Jump backward
9: Use equipped item
0: Cast equipped spell
What's to come
Spire: Record of the Rebellion: RotR is, as the title implies, the character playing through the Rebellion War as the famous 'Nameless Silhouette' that saved Sacres from any further damage.
Spire: Echoes of Sin: EoS takes place after (and essentially continues) the events of LotBT, having a theme of explaining the future of the world of the world, rather than the past. EoS will have a much darker setting, as opposed to the original game.
I love the plot of Spire too much to let it be summed up in what, when I look back, is simply a sub-par attempt at an RPGmaker arcade game attempt. There is already a planned sequel continuing the story from where it leaves off in the first game, and a prequel, explaining the events of the Rebellion War.

This second post is half to say that the thread is open and to give me an easy way to post screenshots.

Looks nice, I must say. Characters and story are pretty well thought-out, systems are nice, I look forward to it.
One thing, the colours of the trees on that forest chipset look a little "off" somehow. Or maybe it's just me?
-
If it's the bottom one I think I know why. The middle tree on that cluster of trees to the right of the kobold has a reddish branch sticking out of the side. I never got what those are supposed to be so I just added them to trees every now and then.
-
Looking gewd! I'm not convinced on those sprites of yours, particularly the one in the second to last screenshot, but overall it looks like it's going to be great.
-
The dagger's mine, the kobold I found in the CR, Regal's a slight edit, the face sets are mine, and it makes me QQ that you don't believe that I make the dude in the second to last screenshot.
*is now emo* QQ
In all seriousness, though, I am HUGELY against art theft, the character in the second to last picture is mine. As is the pre-rendered background in that picture, made in Bryce 5.5.

Game looks great as I've known it would. I'll be waiting right here for a demo then.
C'mon... Is it done yet?
So many good games comming out in the future.

There probably won't be a demo. The game's probably only going to be 5-10 hours, a demo would be 1/5 of the game XD

After a bit of a stand still, the game SHOULD be back on track, and building the third stage should begin within the week.
-
Three new screenshots added. Probably a week or so until the third boss is done, then the stage 3 ending, then the game is ABOUT half way done.
-
The 3-d panoramas really clash with the sprite, it kinda just looks like he's floating there. O_O..
Everything looks good for the most part though.

That one was done awhile ago. I'm probably going to update it before the game's done.
-
demo plz

NEVAR
If anything there'll be a trailer.
With lots and lots of content that doesn't actually exist in the game and that makes the game look decent :D
-
:o!
YAY.
-
...No trailer now. In fact, the entire game is cancelled.
HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY AFL.
<3
The third boss is being worked on very very loosely, but I spoke with Gemini and I agree with him completely that if I put a deadline it's only going to hurt me. I promise nothing as far as when it will be done. I'm a bit pre-occupied trying to figure out how to play MAME online ;P
-
I propose to you this, members of charas. If Dominicy does not release a demo by the next full moon, we lynch him in the town square.
-
I didn't even bug-test the game o_o
Plus demos tend not to be HALF OF THE GAME.

LYNCH LYNCH LYNCH

You're probably wondering how this has been going. Well, actually, probably not. But I'll tell you any way :P So far... Maps are almost done, dialogue is going to be completely rewritten, three out of the seven stage's monsters are done, an optional stage is being worked on, and, as a whole, progress is going well. No promises, but the game should be done soon.
-
:(
I make game go bye bye! *cries in corner for eternity*
Serious: YAY!

LYNCH LYNCH LYNCH

It's Kind of catchy.

So, it's an ABS? Is it like the Zelda games? Are there levels and stuff? Do you play as only one character? I got to know!

Wtf is up with the picture behind the text box?
-
I think he is sitting on a throne kind of thing... It took me a while to figure out what that was. o.o
-
Yeh. Every now and then during major scenes something like that happens. I tried awhile back to have a meeting between two characters underground, a lantern swinging over head but there was no real reason to include the scene in the game, so I scrapped the idea all-together.
Another example of a sprite for a scene like that is below.
To answer all those questions, Regal is the only playable character since Tulip is a non-combatant. It is comparable to Zelda, but includes a jump system (1 to jump forward, 2 to jump back), and I made the horrible, horrible horrible STUPID mistake of rather than simply swinging his weapon, when attacking Regal slides forward 1 space.
There are a total of seven stages, eight including the optional stage. The game itself only serves the purpose of telling the back-story of the game, the background of all the characters much too long to simply summarize in an introduction scene. HOPEFULLY, as I've promised many times before, the second one will be better, and very possibly a platformer, but that's still up for debate.
Either way, glad everyone's looking forward to the game, play it with an open mind, and be patient because it'll still be awhile :3

Looks cool man. 2 bosses from Secret of Mana eh :P
Keep me posted. Ima def be playin this one when its done.
-
I THOUGHT I KILLED THAT CRAB?!?!?!?!?!?!?
But yeah it looks like it is going to be good. Good luck working on it and I hope to play the demo when you release it.
....Fing Crab..........Might be his brother Steve......

I know this is old, old news, but that's totally not what I meant. 'Not convinced' is one of my polite ways of saying I thought it needed improvement :p
-
This looks really good...please thrive and try to finish this
-
@RockJohnAxe: Secret of Mana's bosses are win. The majority of the graphics are taken from Secret of Mana, come to think of it.
@Chronoman: Attack its weak point for massive damage. :P
@Moosetroop11: Liesssssss. LIES because otherwise I pulled my teeth out one by one for nothing. LIIESSSSSSS. I dunno, that or your mom needs improvement, or something that clearly took no originality to say.
In all seriousness, I did have some trouble with his sprite, my biggest problem being the fabric creases. I'm, as a whole, not satisfied with how he looks. He doesn't exactly look like he's a king, if you will.
-
Progress. I has none. Well, more or less, any way. I'm going to redo the mapping of two of the stages, because I'll be honest, they look awful. This'll, HOPEFULLY only push the game's progress back a week or two, though. Here's for hoping...
-
How are things going with this? =D
