Title: Moving Enemy?
Post by: Hirochi-Zangus on May 07, 2008, 02:18:08 AM
I would like to know how to make a moving enemy on RPG 2k3. I know it's possible, but I just can't figure it out! Please help me!

And what exactly do you mean by "moving enemy"?
The monster sprites? Overworld sprites ect?
And for what purpose are they moving?

In battle they are usually stationary, I want to know if there is a way you can have an enemy that is moving instead of being in a statue like state.

Find the monster's sprite sheet and paste the animations into a blank battle animation sheet.

How would that help me have a moving enemy? Please explain...

Hmm? I thought that was supposedly impossible and then that FF7 person came along and boasted that he had animated monsters but then his friend contacted Square Enix and they had to cancel the project? Is there something I missed? I'm pretty sure you can't use battle animations as monsters...

I'm pretty sure you can't use them as monsters either. My friend told me that if you have the monster as a .XYZ file or whatever that it'll be a moving monster. I'm just trying to find out if that is so because I can't make a file that is a .xyz!

Basically, you can do animated attacks with a bit of event coding and battle anim skills, but to make fully animated foes you would need a CBS.

I hear about this CBS on all the posts... I'm still new to this as you can tell so can you please tell me what CBS means. :(

Custom Battle System.
You make everything yourself from scratch or using someone elses or even go after a tutorial.

DB is making one but damn, it takes a pretty long time to fix it.
You know, the AI has to be done manually and such.

Now I remember! But back to my original question... Is it possible to make an enemy (during battle) move such as the heroes move during battle, or is it a myth/impossible?

As i said, using a few events and some well placed battle anims you can make attacks animated but everything else is nigh impossible.

I see, but is it possible with scripting that there may be a chance at making an animated enemy? Or am I doomed to the relentless hope of trying and failing?

Well, if there was a chance, it would require hours of coding each enemy and monster group. Really not worth it in the long run. And anyway, trying to get an animated battler for every monster is way hard.

I suppose that you could code something with pictures and have monsters compeltely blank and set an event to change the picture once every 1 sec in order to make it move around.
It works on the maps but I'm not sure if it does in battles as well. I stick to frozen enemies but make my own battle animations for each attacks(See: Sprite fro life).

What I'm really looking for is one BIG BATTLE with the enemy, preferably the last boss, being able to moving making the game more WOW instead of wow. I just thought maybe there was a way... I guess I'll keep looking around and researching, but it's not that big of a deal. Thanks to everyone who helped! Arigato Gasaimas :)
