Title: I hate school....
Post by: lilsniffs3 on May 13, 2008, 01:21:25 AM
Yeah, so...... our school blocks about 20,000 frieking websites. Like:

Youtube
Myspace
Facebook
Addictinggames
Miniclip
Runescape
VTunnel

....and other websites I can't think of. Please note that Newgrounds is NOT on the list. Seriously. I was on Newgrounds at school. And guess what? they block proxy websites too. Google Translator gets blocked, VTunnel gets blocked, and I have no other ways to get through. Plus, my friend misspelled wikipedia, and the thing he spelled out happened to be a porn website. They blocked that too. but c'mon, have they ven heard of Newgrounds? (I'm trying UGOplayer tomorrow.)

The unrelated news is I now love Legos. i'm using them to sprite in real life, from NES and Gameboy games. So far I have Pikachu, Link, and Mario.

Try Silent Revolt. Maybe they haven't blocked that one.

Chill out. Really, if you can't go a day at school without games, you've got problems.

You can change your sever and you might be able to
veiw them.

We just played Quake 3 over the network. Programming 2, 3, and 4 (4 doesn't exist but I wanted to take programming again so they made it for me :P) were awesome as a result.

No, I mean, I'm probably the only kid who knows what a proxy is. I just mean the school system of my town goes like this:

Worker: Omigosh! These kids are going to hack our mega computer!
*Blocks all proxy websites, and "Superspecialawesomemegacomputerserver.com.
Worker: Done!

Seriously, it's just that, it's unfair our high school gets everything, better food, better classes, and most most of all, BETTER INTERWEBZ.

Plus, my friend misspelled wikipedia, and the thing he spelled out happened to be a porn website.

I don't think "barely legal sluts" is a typo of "wikipedia" :p

Regarding Newgrounds, it IS very strange that that isn't blocked. Yet.
Enjoy it while it lasts.

Actually, Addictinggames has educational games too. I think he spelled wickepedea or something. And Fisheron, they blocked Google Translator. So cross that out. VTunnel is a proxy website. For crying out loud, Club Penguin is basicly the only thing children play at school. At school, if it rains, I'm trying:
YoutubeProxy
ClockMyUrl
Breakfly
and Silent Revolt.

We only have 400 children in our school. That would be 1200 under this school website blocker. Thank god Charas isn't block. This is my reminder. Also, apparantly Veoh works.

More sites blocked:
Yahoo
AOL
Watch-Movies
CollegeHumor

You have my attention.

It's the schools job to make sure you don't goof off, and drop their precious test scores, so don't flip a twig, each and everyone of those sites were blocked at my highschool, just wait till college, they don't block ****.

They block the sites because it slows the server down. My school does it to. And when you have over eight hundred kids on a game site it slows the server. Like my school has a main website, and it loads extremely slow if anyone is playing games. So our school tech guys get relaly pissed. My school records what sites you visit because you sign in with your school id number. They block a website after a few hundred kids get on it. Like a site called agames.com has yet to be blocked. But will be soon.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on May 13, 2008, 06:31:13 PM
To be fair they're blocked so that you don't waste your education time on games and videos and pointless crap, so that you don't fail your exams, get no qualifications, and spend the rest of your life being a tramp living on benefits.

Just saying.
Title:
Post by: Osmose on May 13, 2008, 06:36:33 PM
Slows the school server down? That's complete bullshit.

The "server" is, at best, simply on the routing path for your connection and passes the data through, although in actuality it's not the server itself but a network switch somewhere in the school's server room.

Consider what happens when you actually go to a website to play a flash game. Your computer requests the page, gets the page, sees that there's an embedded flash file, and asks for that from the server (As it does with images and other embedded content). It get's the flash file, loads all of this data into a temporary storage place on your computer, and runs it. All the weight and processing power that the flash file uses are on your own computer.

The server does nothing more than pass along data and check to make sure what you're accessing is allowed within it's policy. So unless your school is using a single PC that routes everything itself (Which it doesn't, otherwise they wouldn't have gone ahead and gotten PCs for students anyway) playing games on the internet does just as little damage to the server as viewing the web in general does.
Title:
Post by: Ben on May 13, 2008, 06:57:46 PM
So basically theyve done this so that you cant post things like this, in places like this. Go back to your school work, LOL
Title:

Fascists.

Still, get back to work.
Title:
Post by: Razor on May 13, 2008, 10:32:02 PM
That reminds me; when I was in high school, they ended up blocking a lot of stuff because half way through the year we managed to use THE ENTIRE YEAR'S internet allowance.
Good stuff, that.
Title:
Post by: Cosmos on May 15, 2008, 06:35:38 PM
Well that's the kids damn fault. They spend hours on myspace instead of doing their work. But then again, they probably shouldn't be using the computer anyways. :P And also, how they do it is... they block keywords. Like if a site has the words game, sex or **** on it then they're automatically blocked. They also found out about proxy sites because kids have big *** mouths, and go about talking about these things in front of kids who have bigger mouths or staff. Like we had boredatschool.net for like six months before they blocked it.
Title:
Post by: Archem on May 15, 2008, 09:24:25 PM
I remember this crap. There were twelve new proxy sites discovered each week, and eleven of them were blocked the week after they started getting used. Like a revolving password to the internets. It was either that, or play some Halo (which was epic awesome when some douche didn't have a server where the guns were modded for infinite ammo, no reloads, and instant kill everything on screen. That guy just sat and held down the shoot button to ruin our fun).

Hey, it's their fault that I could breeze through all the classwork in twenty minutes. Sometimes, I didn't even do the work. It's not like I couldn't make up for a few missing assignments in an A or B class.

This sucks, I discoverd at school today, that after i had posted my comment my school blocked charas. What a bore. I am a senior and I have two days left of school, why can't i have fun.

Well, I kinda' agree with you, BUT:

I'm 10 years old, only about 5 people in our whole school has a MySpace.

Plus, I was thinking that too, about keywords, but, NewGrounds, MCleoudgaming, this site, aren't blocked, and I really am the only kid who knows what a proxy is, in our whole school district, plus, Wikipedia, that IS NOT BLOCKED, although I won't search it, Wikipedia will have the pages "Sex" "Fuk," and our school, only let's us use computers either during recess when raining, technology class, or free time. That obviously won't bother us from our tests. Slack-Time is the only site we use now. All everybody does is play "Low" loud.

Srsly. It was blocked for two weeks once. Went to check when school'd let out, and BOOM! Ed, stop looking at our page, we didn't design it so you could use it! It's ours just to have, no looksees!

I finish my Web Design classwork early ( I'm the only one that gets this stuff! XD ), so I ALWAYS have 40 minutes to myself every day. It rocks. :D So, I'm usually the one to find out what sites are blocked. Charas is blocked, of course, but the Charas Wiki isn't, so I sometimes work on an article for it trying to type from memory. Other times, I just work on my own site. ( Have to bring the files on a flash drive, my site's blocked. :/ )

And it blocks any site that do with gaming.

Or Buying/Selling things.

...it makes me sad...

I can go on MicroMarching though. ^^... until I've gone on it... crap they probably blocked it already. >.>

My school used to be easily surpassed by proxies.. then it cracked down. I had a list of over 100 proxies and never had to use more than one. Then whhen my school upgraded  none of them worked. All blocked. I suppose there were other way around it but I really didn't care that much. Plus I just graduated yesterday. So I'm like w00t!!!

And...10 years old? O_O

I recall that a few of my friends began bringing flash drives with Firefox Mobile on it because it could get past all the blocked stuff. Of course, random, unblocked Googling led to many accidental porn sites being accessed in the middle of class...

At 10 years old, you would be the only one to know what a proxy is. Even the computer nerds don't know what a proxy is.

Also, if you embed a YouTube video and put it on a website, would that work as a new server?

Uh, sure kid, at 10 YEARS OLD you might be the only one, but that wasn't my point. What I was trying to say was that when you get to Middle School and High School, there will be a lot of people that know what a proxy is. Trust me.

Using wikipedia to find info?  Don't make me laugh.  If you use the wiki.  You area dumbass.  You know that anyone can put the info on there.  I personally use databases.  Like the Ecohost (i totally can't spell it...) or something of the sort.  Even most google sites are more accurate.

Its called footnotes. You find a statement or sentence you can use, go to its source, and use that.

I was just about to say that. It makes me think my friend who mispelled Wikipedia is AFL. AFL, do you happen to be from Turkey?
Title:
Post by: Cosmos on May 19, 2008, 10:48:38 AM
No he ain't from no Turkey! He's in purple land!

And A Forgotten Legend, you're calling a good amount of people here dumbasses since we pretty much all use Wiki as some sort of reference. Yes, it's a known fat that people (anyone) is capable of putting information up on that site, we all know this. Most of the time we're smart enough to tell if that information looks accurate. I mean... if I was looking at a Wiki for Dolphins and see that it's talking about Cats... well, I'm not gonna be all, "OH SHITZ DOLPHINS HAVE FURZ!!?!?!!" And stuff :P
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on May 19, 2008, 04:24:53 PM
Ya know, if you're that bored there's always the Wikipedia game. Start on a random page and decide what page you want to get there by clicking links. The fastest to get the desired page wins. If you click a dead link, you're out. Ctrl + F is cheating. NO SEARCHING, which would completely ruin the point of the game. It's a good game.
Title:

Someone I knew in middle school used to look up a bunch of jap porn during english, every third period. The teacher caught him setting the default home pages to a partiularly nasty one and made him phone his parents and explain what he did.

I allways liked my english teacher.
