Title: It's memorial day
Post by: shinotebasiiackh on May 27, 2008, 03:25:09 AM
God bless the brave men and women overseas. May they live to fight another day!

A toast to our fallen brothers. Those who laid their lives down for no recognition other than that of their comrades. Those who died for their country, and the men and women in it.

Semper Fi! :Plight:

What's the difference between memorial day and veteran's day? honestly.

Memorial Day is for the ones who died.

Yes. Never forget those brave men and women. The American ones, too.

FFL got it there. And, Ray, show some respect. Both holidays are for people who would die, or -did- die,  protecting the freedoms you take for granted.

Exactly what part of the american army is being honoured?
The Vets?
The ones during the world wars?
Afghanistan?
Iraq?

I'm losing track myself. I just don't get days like this.

No disrespect, but nowadays, as long as we Americans can feel great about ourselves and take the day off, we're quite content :|
Still, happy Memorial Day!

Troops don't get the day off, Fortet. Most of America does, while they're still in a complete shitstorm.
And I didn't get the day off, but thanks for coming.

prplmage, Memorial Day is when Americans honor (or SHOULD honor) the soldiers who have died in any war.

I don't want this to turn into a flame topic, but jesus christ.

I didn't get the day off. No extra pay or anything either. I think a lot of people work on Memorial Day...

Just an objective statement.

@Shino: True. Once again, no disrespect. I have nothing but respect for our nation and its armed forces. I just mean it in a way that most Americans use it as an excuse to get off work and don't even bother to realize what the day is truly about. It's a shame, really.

I hear you man. I don't see anything wrong with having a BBQ or something, just so long as they, like you said, remember what the day is for. Too few people remember that they're not only honoring the people dead and dying -right now- in the Middle East, Africa, etc, but the people who died making this place a country in the first place, instead of just another English colony.

You almost make me feel guilty, but then I realize that my family line is fairly new to the US.
