Title: Metal Gear Solid 4 thread
Post by: Apex on June 14, 2008, 01:04:45 AM
So, yeah.

I just bought it, I have yet to play it though.

One thing I noticed...
"Required Disc Space 4600mb."

WHAT THE HELL!?

What's the point of it being on a disc, if the installation size is that enormous? (Rhetorical question, I already know why.)

look at the pic i posted Xecoa. Thats how many discs it'd have to be to fit. MGS 4 is a dual layered Blu Ray disc and its FULL. It'd take like 20 discs to fit it onto 360 dvds.

Exactly what I thought.  Given, if it's at least fun to watch I wouldn't mind.

I am enjoying my movie, mixed in with JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF AWESOME GAMEPLAY.

The voice quality, the graphics, the GAMEPLAY and so far the story are nothing but amazing.

Also, the very beginning makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. I'm sure it'll be explained later though. (It's nothing story related, it's just... odd...)

I thought it was released globally all at once.

The online SUCKS if you have even the slightest amount of lag, and seeing that I use a wireless connection from halfway across my house, it makes accurately shooting someone impossible. (Unfortunately I chose sniper as my main profession too.)

I may just move my PS3 into my living room.

If you did that, I'D PLAY WITH YOU!

No, I'd play with you anyways. It's not like this is Mario Kart DS, I don't expect to whoop EVERYONE'S *** all the time.

(All my jokes aside, I don't ALWAYS whoop *** on Mario Kart DS, just most of the time.(And to be fair, I WAS a very sore loser that one time when I quit.(This should go without having to  be said, but no, my batteries didn't really give out, I was just being a piece of bitch-****.)))

Yeah, this game is awesome. It's a lot harder to navigate though it seems. I've been getting lost a lot easier than in the past one, and I have still yet to get a gameover. (There are four difficulties, I had planned originally to play hard mode first, since the last one had a Very Hard mode, but since there is NO very hard mode, I did the more difficult of two normal modes, so I have something even more challenging for the next time I play through.)

Disproven myth.

And now you make it obvious that you don't know much about technology.

They could easily get the game on 2-3 disks if they just compressed some things like audio which Kojima wanted to have uncompressed to fill space on the Blurray.

David Hayter says porting it down the track would be the smartest thing to do (for making money), the editor of some Playstation magazine thinks it wouldn't be worth the effort so it wouldn't happen.
It's really just up in air.

A certain plot twist just killed me a little on the inside... I HOPE IT'S NOT FOR REAL!

Come on, I can't be the only one with a PS3 and Metal Gear Solid 4... Can I?

Well, I can't afford a PS3 right now.

I have a PS3 but I *BIG CONFESSION* never played any of the MGS games, and any more the games seem to be shooting games, rather than a stealth game, so it's doubtful we'll get it at all.

I know the ending, and I haven't even got a PS3.

Oh yeah, I already know all the plot twists and turns by this point.

Post by: Apex on June 16, 2008, 08:52:48 PM
Well, I don't. Well, I guess I know some of them just from playing through, but other than that, I've stayed spoiler free.

Also, the games haven't become more like shooting games, they are still VERY stealth like and still very fun. I recommend that you go out and buy the essentials package for $30, it comes with the first three games, if you don't like them, don't worry about it, if you do however, go buy the fourth one. A word of advice though, play the first one first; if you play them out of order, you wont want to play the first or possibly even second one, just due to the gameplay element reduction. It'll seem boring and the lack of certain features will piss you off if you play say the third one first than go for the second one.

I've found some of the producers heads floating around like there were in the third one.

I did it 1, 3, 2. I think if you go in for game play start at 1, but if you want the story, start at 3, then 1 etc.

I double dare you to get Fox Hound.

1 and 2 make perfect sense without 3, which is the prequel, but you shouldn't play the third one first for story, even though it's a prequel, it still doesn't make sense, besides your missing out on the whole message BEHIND the third one. The third one makes a lot of sense for the story, more than anyone here besides me knows.

I want it sooooooo baaaaaaad, but a PS3 is a few hundred dollars more than what I can afford, especially since all my cash right now is going towards upgrading my PC.

You should only play 3 3rd is you want that "Oh ****" factor of seeing things relative to what you know. If you want it to seem like a film, I think 3 first aids to it. The games already are interactive movies, why not just do it anyways.

At least play the first one first, because I TOO played them in 1, 3, 2 order.

There is a lot of incentive to play the first one first, so as long as you do that, you'll be fine. The ending of the third one doesn't make as much sense if you haven't played the second one though.

I actually had watched my friend more or less play the whole game, so I knew the plot. I think, as far as I've played, 3 is the best.

Gameplay wise, out of those three yes, you can only expect it to get better gameplay wise though; yes, MGS4 has better gameplay. (Although you can't interrogate people. :( )

Story wise, not including the fourth, the second has the coolest story, the final area is just amazingly awesome on the second one.

The fourth one has a lot of more hidden humor and breaks down the fourth wall a few times too.

Well, I rented it and beat it on 2nd normal difficulty.

It's much easier than the previous games. Also, this game made me think "ZOMFG wtf? animeanimeanime" sterotypes the entire time playing it. Way more so than the previous games.

Most of the bosses were long and boring. The Laughing Octo and the Screaming Mantis were about the only good fights.

Graphically the game is amazing, and the cutscenes (though a bit much, just like the previous ones..) were astounding (especially the ones during the final fight with liquid). I personally feel that the plot in this one was retarded, and that the reusing of characters from the earlier games wasn't necessary.

I wouldn't buy it, but if you're a fan of the series it's definately worth a rent.

How about not spoiling?

In my book, listing bosses is spoiling, so please, knock it off.

I disagree though, I don't think there's an installment on this series that isn't worth purchasing, there is a lot of replay value in unlocking things alone, not to mention the online mode is good for a quick battle of wits and reflexes. (And annoyance/aggravation.)

Everyone who has been keeping up with MGS4 would already know about the Beauty and the Beast unit. They're in the promo pics, they're in the trailers, I'd hardly say it is classed as spoilers.

You mind modding that post Razor?

And I hadn't been keeping up with it, besides the intro level and Snake being old, I haven't seen or read a damn thing.

Beat it last night.

Meiscool:
*SPOILERS, for the love of god, don't click this is you ever plan on playing MGS4, it's the spoilers for the whole damn game/series.*
I don't know if you just watched the ending somewhere else, or if you didn't watch past the credits, but from the sounds of it, you missed a lot. In all of the MGS games, there are things after the credits, and I'm shocked you didn't know that, as a matter of fact, a few minutes after the credits roll, you're treated to a scene involving Big Boss, Zero and Snake, just after Snake pulls the trigger (He didn't kill himself, he couldn't bring himself to do it.) Where Big Boss (Voice acted by the guy who did Solidus in 2.) explains how he's been alive the whole time, and that "Big Boss" back in Europe was actually Solidus, the perfect clone. He explains in more details who the patriots are, and pulls the cord on Zero, who's sitting in a wheel chair. He tells Snake that he was infected by a new strain of Foxdie during South Africa, that has been killing off the old strain that was going to cause the epidemic, and that he can now live out the rest of his short life without worry about causing an epidemic. (Unless he manages to live another ten years.)
Of course, if you knew all that, cool; you may have just been feeding me BS, even though parts of it were true, so I doubt it.

Um, the point of it was to make you think he actually did kill himself, dumbass.
