Title: Ed's general creative arts thread - "Re - Alli"
Post by: X_marks_the_ed on June 24, 2008, 02:29:33 PM
Update
(http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c268/X_marks_the_ed/lugnut_final.png)

This is Lug Nut. He is from my dead RPG Maker Project, NFT. he was my favorite character of the game because though he looks maniacal in this picture, he was the most complex. He is possessed by the demon that killed his entire home town, forced to fight to please the demon. The demon gives him more power than he can handle, so he often becomes a thoughless juggernaut. Outside of power, Lug Nut stays from the others and refuses to talk to anyone. He ends up opening up to Dirk, letting him know about the demon. He feels remorse for the things he does in his blindness and wishes he could just escape. Towards the end of the game, he would've killed the demon in his head. Because he knows the spells himself, he is able to use the demon's spells after he is defeated, making him a powerful, yet slow ally.

But the game will never happen, so..... best I can do is this.

...some of you know I am currently using a "Pumpkin headed" avatar. But that is not technically "me." That is a character named Jack and he belongs to a comic I draw in my spare time. He is not my representative. Neither was the purple-haired guy in white. (Foxy)

The image I am about to show you is my representative. It is my real "internet image." The only reason I never showed you him is that I found that Grandy was a thief. So am I. <.< So, I instead use him in other forums. But I just made this picture of him that I'm too proud not to show here. Took me two days, and I think it came out well considering I didn't use any flashy effects.

Any opinions?

I don't like how the coloring on the whip thing is the same as the shadow on the shirt. Other than that, it's a cute little stylized thing that, given the opportunity, I would take home, cuddle, and shortly forget about entirely.

It was a hybrid night. A blending, mixing of dark and light. Dark enough to mask a man in the distance, but not dark enough to blind him. I watch from a tall Oak by the post. The guards greet the guests to the castle. It was a grand party. The king's daughter has returned and all is jubilant. However, the town left itself weak. They would return home without the wealth they coveted so much. I would. I see couple after couple walk in with their best. But then, a guard looks over at me, squints, and points.

I leap over to the next tree and I hear him mention seeing something. Then silence. I assume they've ignored it. I find myself in front the window to the princess herself. She is not happy and is clearly showing it. I hang on the other side of a large branch and listen to their conversation, the whole time watching what I wanted tonight - the King's Crown. "Father, I'm glad you've expelled the thoughts of my previous suitor, but finding me another so soon isn't the right thing to do right now."
"Charity, why do you still worry for him? He is gone and is never returning."
"You say it as though he chose to disappear." The kings pauses. "Do you?"
"It is a possibility." She is now more disgusted than angry.
"They'll find him! They have yet to interrogate his parents!"
"I'm sure the royalty has better things to do than worry about their children."
"Maybe you do, but he was a treasure to the entire land!"
"Charity, I'm not going to explain this to you again, finish getting ready and come downstairs!" He leaves and slams the door doing so. I snap out of my fixture of his crown. The girl refuses to finish the hair she had been so painstaking brushing. Tired of this story, I climb down a bit and see the grand ballroom through another window. I watch the crown atop the King walk into the room and announce that his daughter will be down soon. The dancing stops and the couples take their seats. As soon as the King walks to the center towards his chair, I see the opportunity. Everyone is furthest from him as will ever be. I leap from the tree and through the window. Luckily, I land on my feet and the room begins to buzz. It is I, they say. Black.

tl;dr - His alias is Black, he watches the princess who's angry at her father for trying to get her another suitor after losing her last one to a mysterious disappearance. Black leaps through the window to try and take the King's Crown.

>.>
Yes, he has a background story. I'll continue time to time.

If you want honesty, I laughed.

2 days.  Cmon dude thats like 10 minutes worth of work at most.

I cant even tell what hes doing.  Does he have a black eye or are those some kinda weird glasses.  Is the arm coming out of his eye socket?  I dont get it.

I think some kind of coherent body structure would do you well if you're looking to improve.  Like, CAN A NIGGA GET SOME SHOULDAZ? Instead of the MY ARMS COME OUT OF MY NECK.  And Im gunna assume that the other arm not holding the knife is bent.  If so, why is it still as long as the one holding the knife.  Thats weird, and if you're gunna go with the whole ITS CARTOONY AND SUPPOSE TO BE LIKE THAT, consistency is UNIVERSAL.

Brutal honesty helps.

Indeed.

Only retort is that I can't draw with a mouse. I'm just glad something decent came out of it. So glad, I HAD TO SHOW IT OFF.

Agreed.
But he has cuddly shoes! Look at them cuddly foots! They be so cuddlywuddlykins!
...now I've digressed into baby talk.
but the writing....  not so much on the cuddly. A hybrid night? I'm all for original adjectives, but... no. Just no. And your dialogue feels quite stiff. Stylized lack of contractions can work, but only if you do it right.

Soul Calibur: Yes, Soul Calibur 3: No. Still too far behind the times for that game.

I was watching Zombie Happy Fun Time on Youtube when I heard this song on it. I downloaded the "album" to it to get "Balla Da Li" just to hear how dumb it was. "Speedy Speed Boy was there too. I listened to it and this is what came to mind:

Speedy Speed Boy (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c268/X_marks_the_ed/speedboy6_final.png)

Apparently, he comes from a world with skateshoes, racing of said skateshoes, and the fact that parents will let a child race in them with only a strapless helmet with several gaudy protrusions. Oh well. It's done in Life in Hell style, explaining the eyes and lack of arms.

My real goal with this one, since I think my shading is decent enough, was to tackle an entire background and.... jeans! I cannot and never could draw jeans with a pencil, I hoped I could at least draw them with a mouse and I think they turned out alright.

Hmmm... I think Lug nut was a bit better than that. Watch out for the length of his legs, but the only real problem background, I guess. It feels a bit rushed.

Okay, I just had to do this one. I believe I mentioned dreaming up somewhat of a montage of Dragonium taking over the Unmod. This is my favorite scene of the dream. But, there are a few things I must point out.

1. The giant blobs are supposed to be mechs (apparently Dragonium controlled an army of them), they're supposed to be blurry, as the focus was on Dragonium.
2. That tiny thing in front of the mechs is Dominicy, to compare the size of them. The mechs were only about three times the size of Dominicy.
3. The sun is supposed to be black. I recognized it being part of one of my RPG Maker projects. It's called the void sun and I believed I used the spell version on my Dirk sprite sheets.
4. The forest below Dragonium is supposed to be gray, an affect of the void sun. The tower and mechs stand on an area covered by sand.
5. I don't know why ZeroKirbyX is in the air, he was in my dream.
6. Yes, the dream had subtitles. >.<

...and it's about fricking time! Chicken Man has to be my only alias without a sprite sheet to match. Time to show what this damn bird can do!

I have the following planned for the sheet:

Chicken Man
-----------------------
Basic attack 1 - Swings Scythe overhead
Basic attack 2 - Swings Scythe at side
Force attack - Holds scythe out, point at tip of wing, charges with blade outward
Defense - Spins scythe in front
Back block - Holds back scythe
Charge - Hold scythe at side, air slices by
Air attack - Scoops up with scythe
Flight - spawn wings
Taunt - Flaps wing and arm in wing position, flaping while making chicken sounds while kicking heels.
Summoning Melanie
Hit
Dead
Jump
Jump attack - Slice at side with scythe

Melanie
-----------------------------
Hit
Dead
Crying -Confuses the enemy
Joy - Makes enemy happy (distracted)
Angry - Massive hit if done correctly.

I have no real enemy designed, but Cm and Mel are victims of a great power by said evil. Blinding Mel, and turning CM into what he is now. The connection between him and Mel is a secret, but I can you tell you this, they do not have feelings for each other. >.>

Oh, you mean the one I'm still waiting for? ;)

Chicken Man will not be on the first one. In the second Circus, I hope to give each ember two "creation" characters. Which they can choose two of their creations to be selectable under their own character. I'll probably replace Mortique with Jack in the first one. I'll either change myself to Chicken Man and my two creations will be Jack and Lug Nut (which I have already drawn earlier in this thead), or I'll still be Foxy and have Chicken Man and Jack as my two. Simply put, Chicken Man won't be in the first one, but the second one.

The program is still giving me a hard time.

Use a more comic-appropriate font, and something a little bolder. Try practicing multi-bubble word format, since one big bubble can lead to a wall of text, breaking the panel borders (like in image 5-6), and obscuring the drawings. Not digging the title, but that's none of my business anyways. And do more actions in the comic, since I was sure his right arm was lame up until panel 5.

As long as you aren't claiming I'm mimicking them. :/

The boys' got a point! You're too comparable to the worst web comic in existence! Fix it!

I was thinking of scrapping the whole thing anyways. Serif is obviously run by a bunch of assholes, which makes me unwilling to actually work. :/

I guess I should finally get off my *** and scan that 200 page comic of mine.

He's a ghost? What?

Why did you think he was white?

I thought he was an uncolored character that you were working on. That, or he'd been making a cake recently.

And he's not very good at it, I would say!

Because... Uh, he's an American?

Make him transparenty. (Yeah, transparenty, shaddup.)

Besides that, I actually liked it. I laughed, anyway. By the way, if I start a webcomic that features talking silverware and other dinner table paraphernalia, will you all kill me?

No. I actually had a comic years ago, the Adventures of Knifeman and Spoon Boy.

Whoa. No way. Well, I never read yours, or knew about it, so they probably wouldn't end up very similar.

Make him transparent.

Non-transparent -> Visble to humans
Transparent -> Invisible to humans

He can swap at will.
