Title: Guitar Sprite Creation Kit (GSCK)

-Guitar Sprite Creation Kit-
(http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q214/darthjastarband/GSCK_PREVIEW1.png)

What is this?
Guitar Sprite Creation Kit (GSCK) is pretty much a concept right now. The idea is to have an image based database of resources for making custom guitar sprites in a certain style and scale.

How would it work?
The spriting community would make custom "parts" and add them to the image-based GSCK database, and eventually the database would grow, and grow, and grow.

Who would use this and why?
I honestly don´t know. They´re guitar sprites, you can do whatever the hell you want with them. Put them in your signature, show off your custom guitars on this thread, use them in a game somehow, I don´t know. It´s up to you.

Is this completely conceptual, or can I see some actual progress?
It´s still in it´s conceptual phases, but there is a "demo" of sorts.

This is EGSCK-Fender Alpha 1.0 (EGSCK-FA10, or EFA):

What am I looking at?
EGSCK stands for Electric Guitar Sprite Creation Kit. This is an extremely small "demo" limited to one tutorial and only Fender electric guitar parts. It is merely to help visualize the idea.

What might I be looking at in the near future?
Hopefully you´ll see a full beta release with a primary database. The database will contain an acoustic and an electric section. The electric section will be focused on more heavily by me, and it will be divided into brands. Two of these brands, Fender and Gibson, will have resources made for them already. The others will be left empty for me and the community to add to. Then there is the last division, for custom parts, which will also be provided by me and the community. The acoustic section will have some stuff in it too, but like I said before, I will be focusing more heavily on the electric section.

What might I be looking at in the DISTANT future?
Hopefully you´ll see a huge and organized database of GSCK resources, with plenty of community customs to go around.

Ill have to make my SG.
And Ill also have to make a Parker Fly just because it would look sweet as a sprite. And so would a BC rich solidbody accoustic

w00t! BC Rich is one of the brands that will be included in the primary database! And also, you can use my SG in the first post as a reference for yours.

Wow, I thought this project would take a little more than 14 minutes to catch on... But hey this is charas :P

EDIT: Now that I think of it, I could probably just send you some of the already made SG material... Expect a PM in a few minutes...

my SG is cherrywood finish. the wood grains will be tricky. You should think about creating a pallette to avoid a clusterfuk later on

Whee! I just made a green Guitar for Left-Handed people!

It's a pretty cool idea.

If I were you I´d try to avoid even trying to make it look like a cherrywood finish... I´d just shoot for the basic colours and keep it simple. I don´t think the pixel limit will allow for too much creativity with finishes.

However, if you´re willing to try, please do so. It would be an awesome contribution.

EDIT: And thank you for the green guitar Cerebus, I´ll add the green to the palette and the body to the body section.

Hm, like a charas ex made of guitars?

"Guitar Sprite Creation Kit (GSCK) is pretty much a concept right now. The idea is to have an image based database of resources for making custom guitar sprites in a certain style and scale."

That pretty much sums it up.

EDIT: Why do everything that looks nice on white bg looks bad on blue? =\

Because blue is not your friend.

In other news, the primary database is coming along nicely. I´d say it´s about 60% done right now. Once it is released, we can kick this thing off and start making custom guitar sprites! Yee-haw!

Expect to see lots of start-off resources, and two or three more tutorials! It´s going to be cool! You´ll like it! I swear! :3

I like the charas ex idea better.

I would too. The problem is, I wouldn´t have the slightest idea how to go about it.

Unless I like, stole the Charas EX source code and gave it to somebody who knew what the hell they were doing.

this is my SG.
I could have gotten the finish better if the pallette was bigger, but it still looks decent

Whoa! You managed to work out how to fit the little knobs in! Go you!
And now I see what you mean by "wood grains."

You sir are the master of pixel limits. I demand a high five.

-And Moosetroop11, awesome. I´ll try to work some of that stuff into the soon-to-be-released primary database, along with Red Fox´s wood finish style.

UPDATE!

Expect to see the GSCK Primary Database completed by sometime tomorrow!

It might have been completed by now, had it not been for the dental appointment I had to attend today. But no worries, tomorrow will be a new day, completely free of obstacles. So I will devote all of tonight and tomorrow to this project!

For now, you can has some sexy, sexy preview:

Idea: ownage. Way to go man, I love it!

Can anyone make me a Explorer??

EDIT: Nevermind, I see it ^^ Oh, oh! Make me a Jaguar then!! Or a Firebird! They all look awesome so far, btw. Though Gemini's SG needs to be a lil "fatter", roundier.

That isn´t your SG. It´s the first SG, the one I made.

See, what I´m planning on doing is having 6 main body colours, and then a lighter and darker version of each of those colours. So there would be red, light red, and dark red, etc.

And, each colour would also have special finishes. So like, there would be red, light red, dark red, red sunburst, and red wood grain finish. That was how I was thinking of incorporating your marvelous idea. Tell me if you oppose. :D

UPDATE!

Okay. The project is moving along, despite the various set-backs and delays that have been occurring lately. However, it is safe to say that I can release something by tomorrow. I´m setting tomorrow as the official deadline, so if I´m not completely done, I´ll at least send what I have so far.

Now I should actually go into detail. What I´m going to release is EGSCK-V 0.1 ... Which means I´ve cut acoustic stuff out. Not completely though, because if enough people actually want it, I´ll release an AGSCK. But for now, it´s just going to be electric stuff. Sorry.

Anyway, EGSCK-V 0.1 is going to have starting parts from four brands. Fender, Gibson, BC Rich, and Ibanez. I have already made parts for at least one guitar from each brand. Right now, the guitar line-up is:

BODIES:
There are six main colours for each body, plus a lighter, darker, and sunburst finish version of each.
I.E. Blue, dark blue, light blue, blue sunburst finish.
I was also thinking about incorporating Gemini´s wood grain finish style, but I need his permission first.

NECKS:
Necks generally look the same, and come in three colours. So that´s what I´ve done for EGSCK. There´s an ebony neck, a rosewood neck, and a maple neck.

HEADS:
Basically the same setup as the bodies, minus the sunburst finish.

PICK GUARDS:
Once again, same setup as the bodies, minus the sunburst finish.

"GEAR":
This section consists of all the good stuff. Pickups, bridges, knobs, you get the drift. There´s a white, black, and chrome version of each.

GOLDEN PARTS:
Everyone loves gold parts! I do, at least. So I made them. There´s going to be gold tuning keys, gold pick guards, gold bridges and knobs, and all that good stuff.

OKAY! That´s pretty much it! I hope you´re excited! Because I am!

I like this.  I like you.
Could you do it in different styles too?  Like RTP and Zelda sprite styles, or is it just one type?  Curious curious.

You needs to make diagonal ones.
Title: Re: Guitar Sprite Creation Kit (GSCK)
Post by: Uberpwn_w00t on July 19, 2008, 03:43:50 AM
Well, I thought about it, but then I decided most of you would be resourceful enough to scope out a program in which they could rotate it yourselves without distorting it too terribly.

But for right now, there´s no way in hell I´m going back and making diagonal versions of everything.

Wait, I don´t get it..? Is that a request, or a suggestion?
Anyway, don´t worry, I´ll get around to bass guitars real soon.

And also, Emerates, I´ll probably make smaller, RTP sized versions later. For right now, I just need to finish up these.
Once I´m done, if you have any requests... Things like "Can you make this guitar?", "Can you make a bigger/smaller version of this?", "Can you make this diagonal?", etc... I´ll take them.

Good news for Soundgasm, bad news for anybody who was expecting EGSCK... o.o

I got recording equipment yesterday, and spent the entire rest of the day jamming with my dad and recording stuff. Pretty much passed  out afterwards.

And today, I really have no excuse. It was a lazy Sunday, just sat around and watched a bunch of movies. Long story short, I´m going to need a bit more time to finish this up. Sorry.

This isn't dead. I've been rather lazy lately though... So it's moving along slower than a snail right now. I'm doing other things right now too, like the Sprite-Off... So I'm pretty much just going to postpone this until I feel like putting something together. Which is all I need to do, really. Because pretty much everything is made.
