Title: Gemini's Custom Template Project
Post by: Ben on July 16, 2008, 07:39:38 AM
 Gemini's Custom Template Project

Some of you may have seen the templates Ive been making in my gallery thread. Ive been trying to assemble a
set of templates for a platformer project I've been brewing up. Insane JP started to use them for battle characters
and i began making more and more styles.

However, with the older versions of the naked templates, I often assumed I was done and saved over the
piece-by-piece starter images i used to create the initial poses. People began requesting new poses I hadn't thought of
and it became increasingly difficult to make new poses for the sets.

Recently, Ive decided to remake essentially all of the poses and templates. For the sake of both poses, and creating something
slightly more congruent then my previous attempt.

I wont be making these into anything other then a side scroll view. this means don't even bother requesting that i make them into
an XP set of poses...that is unless you want to make a strip of parts and poses yourself.

I will be posting all major stages of development for this project in this thread.

This project is intended as public domain material...
all sprites that i post, unless otherwise mentioned, are free for your use. Without credit.
These sprites may be used for any non commercial project, for any maker.

Feel free to suggest more poses as they start being made, but there are no guarantees that specific requests will be made.

If for some reason you feel like you'd like to help with the project, feel free to sign up. Just don't expect credit. Public domain is public domain.

Without further ado, here is the initial set of parts for all of the templates.

Ill be formatting these into sheets and poses eventually, but this image contains the bare bones material needed to create any pose and any body type conceived thus far.

Alright....the first set of poses is: IDLE and 2 HANDED MELEE ATTACK

Ill be doing sets of poses for each of the five templates (reptile, Male, Female, Giant Male, Giant Female) and posting all five types
as I complete a series of singluar poses.

Eventually, Ill post all of the torsoes I end up using for people to make their own custom poses py just copy pasting arms and heads on to the bodies.

But for now, this will have to do.

Perfect in every way, shape, and form.

And thank you for heeding my advice concerning the lack of boobage on the females. They look much better now.

Here are tonights progress. Ive decided just to make a set of various body poses, of all the types to make things easier on myself in the future.

Here are three of the five main types.

Male Giant, Male Human, Female Human.

Of course I know they have no heads or arms.

I should probably also add that you have all just lost the game

Thanks for the intrest.

So ive taken intrest in this again

new templates.
Battlecharacter...
or if any of you are waiting for stencyl, or like to mess with GM....

this is reaaaly early, but i learned much in my last go's at making custom templates.

Im doing nothing but torsoes with legs right now, and its still in the early frankensprite stage.
When I get the poses all made (things like walking and striking and other actions will all be in either 3frame or 6 frame sequences) Ill make a left and right arm in every conceivable position, and start detailing the bodies with some simple 8 colour palettes.

If this goes well, Ill make other types of templates....im thinking it will be easier to use and less work if i make the bodies first and have copy pastable arms heads and hands.

if anyone feels like playing around with the template, be my guest, and post what you make, to give people ideas.
Use anything I make and post here at your lesiure.

I have no intention of doing anything with my earlier template. There is enough there for people to mess around with, and i want to make something more dynamic and articulate this time.

Progress is slow, because I have a job and a life

the shape of the torso is hard to gauge at this time, but i can see where you are coming from.
Once they are shaded with some AA and definition, I assure you theyll look stellar

If anyone were to feel inclined to make some pose sets, Ill gladly add them to my batch of final poses.
Im not sure if any of you are wanting serquences or poses not listed on the far right of the image...if you are, slap em together, or suggest them to me, and they might make the cut. Just saying.

A preview of semi-complete product.
This shows the full palette, and Illustrates how the finished bodies will look with the copy pasted finished arms.

The Arms and Hands are seperate pastables

If I can ever make some sort of application to quickly pice these together, it would have 4 categories for body parts
Hands, Arms, Bodies and Heads.

Honestly, Im pretty sure i could make a standalone EXE generator for this template with Gamemaker or even XP once i Have all of the bases made

My only criticism is that the legs could stand to move a little when he punches.

Pretty smooth otherwise! But yeah, maybe a little movement in the legs. Otherwise it's good. And yes, I can see this used in a kind of fighter. XD

Wow, that really is awesome. you've managed to convey some real weight to the punches, especially the right hook.

Daaamn. You know what you're doing.

That's awesome.

Only problem I detected, unless I'm going completely insane, is there are way more than three frames for each action, and unless I've been grossly misinformed, RM2K3 allows for only three.

Noone said this was for Rm2k3.

And just for the record, there is a really easy way to use big animations for your character states in the rpg maker...2k3, or XP
Three is just default for battler animations. The battlers are pretty much useless...Battleanimations are the way you should go for battle sprites anyhow. Looks so much cooler if you take the time

Yeah Inssane JP is using one of Gemini's templetes for his Complete Conquest game and it works fine.

Now that i've said that I must say: This is pure awesomenesness (No spelling mistake) I love this new templete it's very life like and i'll have a new David in this style soon.

Right now, Im just making a tileset or two before returning to finish the bases. Hope you dudes are patient.
I just bought AGM and want to have some tiles and menus to use for around the same time as the Base is finished
