Title: Good games that nobody else has heard about.
Post by: Uberpwn_w00t on July 22, 2008, 04:26:58 AM
Well... Iīm really craving some sort of obscure, free, open source PC game type thing right now.

Could be anything... You know, like, something you randomly stumbled upon while surfing the web...
Some examples:

 - Sonic Robo Blast (2)
 - Warsow
 - Sauerbraten

Name away!

The Art of Theft (http://indygamer.blogspot.com/2007/11/tribly-art-of-theft.html) is wicked.
Death Worm (http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=279075) is good for killing some time.
Trackmania (http://www.trackmania.com/en/index.php?lang=en&rub=downloads) is a pretty good racing game.

Archem:
I played Death Worm, itīs awesome
I played Art of Theft... I suck at it o.O
I probably wouldnīt be able to play Trackmania... This computer is pretty old.

ZKX: Iīll probably try those later, I was planning on downloading MAME anyway.

Felix: I actually have played Star Ocean, itīs good.

Anyway, I discovered a very good one while I was looking around: Survival Crisis Z (http://skasoftware.com/).

...Still looking around, anymore suggestions, anyone?

Oh Jesus, Fancy Pants Adventure and FPA2 are rockin' awesome! Trackmania's not that demanding of a game, so it's worth a try. Worst case scenario, you can't play it and you uninstall it.

My computer has been acting strange...

Most games Iīve tried to play lately are inexplicably lagging like hell! Just last summer I was playing Sauerbraten perfectly on this computer, with most of the graphics settings on high or medium... And now I try to play it and I have to turn all the graphics down to the lowest possible setting, and it STILL lags a bit.

Sauerbraten isnīt the only one... Phun is lagging for no reason, Teeworlds is lagging for no reason... Hell, even Muraikoīs RPG Maker game is lagging for no reason.

It doesnīt have anything to do with my graphics card... Iīve checked and everything is running perfectly... Iīve cleared my cache, Iīve cleared my private data, Iīve cleared my cookies... I have ample free space on the hard drive... Even so, Iīve uninstalled unused programs... >.<

Itīs very frustrating.

I really donīt know what to think, and my only guess is that itīs something to do with DirectX 9... But that still doesnīt explain some things.

Yume Nikki

Never heard of it. Iīll look into it.

seal of evil pc

Looks cool

I came across it when I was searching for things, it looks good. Iīll try it.

Anyway, has anybody here played Seiklus? Itīs a GameMaker game made in 2003, and to this day it is still widely regarded as the best GameMaker game ever made. Itīs REALLY good. I recommend it to everybody here.

I recommend using a Rock Band guitar and JoyToKey to map the controller for play.

Why not a Guitar Hero controller?

I donīt see why using a Rock Band controller would give you any special advantages over a Guitar Hero controller...

Seems like everybody ran over good ol' GH when Rock Band came out.

You just wait until GH:WT comes out. You'll see the true power of Guitar Hero.

They did so because Rock Band is inherently better.

I'm back and not in trouble now! You've asked the right person. I spend my entire day trying to get decent free games to play!

MUGEN is great for mates coming round. You can put in just about any fighting game character ever.

Knytt Stories is the best relaxation game.

Hakaiman and Nikujin are ace!

Chalk is really innovative.

Mono, Duo, Echoes and Duotris are really addictive space shooters with everything in neon.

MindArms is an ace fighting game but I can't seem to get mine to work :(

ShadowFlare is a full game that has been made freeware. It has decent graphics and loads of gameplay.

Synaesthete is a great rhythm based, techno-adventure game.

Well of Souls is open-source. It's a massive RPG that used to have me and friends hooked for hours. The music in it is brilliant.

And then there's my game... the best RPG ever made. But it's not out yet!

Title: Re: Good games that nobody else has heard about.
Post by: Uberpwn_w00t on July 24, 2008, 10:32:51 AM
MUGEN and Well of Souls are the only ones I recognize from that list

I dunno about WoS... A few of my friends were hooked on it and they were like "PLAY IT, DOOD!"

So I downloaded it, and, well... The "first impression" factor wasnīt all that great. After getting past the not-so-great graphics, I started the game, and everything seemed to be thrown at you like a brick. It was like "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON AND HOW DO I PLAY?!"

I tried to get into it, but it just didn't catch on.

Anyway, I'll check out all the other stuff on that list!

(I play it all of the time on Kaillera. Accel yay!)

I remember Power Stone!!!
Nevar liked it though..then again it WAS only the demo T__T
I played Jet Grind Radio earlier
Damn Jet Set Raido is much better
Title: Re: Good games that nobody else has heard about.
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on July 28, 2008, 11:33:29 PM
Jet Set Radio was a ****ing great game, what are you talking about? Stylistically and gameplay wise, it was and is one of a kind. JSRF is a great game as well, but it's the exact same, just with more characters and a less shitty camera. I still play Jet Set over JSRF.

Rez is an incredible game for the DC as well, it has a techno beat what goes along with everything you do. Attacks etc all match the beat, and if you have a rumble pack it beats along in rhythm.

Landstalker for Sega Genesis. Also for the wii virtual console. It was an awesome Isometric RPG platformer, and at times it is hard as hell. But It was the first game I played that made me ever wan t to learn how to make sprites. It had a fun little story line and neat characters and dungeons. Allthough the sfx were pretty Bad

Deus Ex (number one) - good ****ing rpg/fps
Arcanum (of steamworks and magickal obscura) - Best RPG in the history of mankind. I have played and beaten this game so many times in the past couple years that I can't even guesstimate how many times I'be run it through. Each time I've played it has been different though, I'm still finding/learning ****.

All you have to do is try and you can get the Jet Crush with a 999 time limit. The fact that Cops and Rokaku couldn't be killed just meant you had to not suck to accomplish something.

Also, stop calling JSRF JSR, Jet Grind Radio is Jet Set Radio everywhere else in the world except North America, and if you insist on calling it JGR, at least make the distinction to call the remake Jet Set Radio Future.

Don't even get me started on the music issue. You listen to Chiodos and My Chemical Emo, you have no say.

Anyways, on topic, I was going through my collection and found Claymates, an old SNES game where every sprite was actually a claymation thing converted, and you're a blue ball of clay that can change form into a cat, rat, bid and some other stuff. Such a fun game.

Then there's this: http://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/ I have been obsessed with that game.

Yes I do listen to MCR SO THE F*** WHAT I don't yell at anyone of you about music YOU listen too

So to make fun of someone for the music they listen to means you have no respect for music in general

Relax. As you say, it's a matter of opinion. Music is especially bad for that; don't take offence to things that people say, everyone's opinions are different, everyone likes different music, you're never going to see eye-to-eye. Let it drop and we'll all be a lot jollier.

It's only Zeek, anyway. :P
