Title: Spore
Post by: Fortet on August 17, 2008, 05:47:13 PM
I just bought the Spore Creature Creator. I must say, this is possibly the most fun "game" I've ever played in anticipation to a full game!

So, out of curiosity, does anybody else have the creature creator/waiting for Spore?

I tried downloading the free one but my graphics card cant take it, and i almost bought it then remembered i couldn't even use the free one, but man did it seem interesting. I saw a Game Maker game made to emulate the molecule stage, it was designed to slightly quench your thirst so talk to me on MSN(thebigvs@gmail.com) if you want the link.

17 days! I can hardly wait

What I plan to do is upload my deviantart journal every step of the way through the game from the morning I get it to when I sleep that day. Because I am a jerk.

SIXTEEN DAYS
Title: Re: Spore
Post by: Archem on August 19, 2008, 03:49:06 AM
TOMORROW

Oh, we're still talking about Spore? Sorry, Razor's TF2 avatar made me switch gears towards the Heavy update.
Title: Re: Spore
Post by: Razor on August 19, 2008, 07:29:20 AM
On that note: I figured it was time I changed my avatar, and I saw some picture and was amused by the spies facial expression in said picture.
Considering up until I changed it I still had my Bjorn Christmas avatar, lololol.

The update will be great, though. Sandvich confirmed for shotgun replacement, and a new Meet The video! I can hardly wait to wake up tomorrow!

Wow... so i just checked out spore for the first time ever.

EVERYTHING LOOKS AMAZING, right up until the Vehicle / rocket spam / space ship battle cheese.
Im prolly gonna get the game when i got spare money cause i wanna do the Cell - land creature tribe type part, but ill have large expectations of this vehicle/space **** nonsense.

Also the Creator a Creature aspect is Fantastically amazing. There is an amazing video of Robin Williams making a creature on the Creature creator on Youtube, Check it out if you like him, its funny.

Are you kidding? The space exploration looks like the best part after creating creatures.

Volcano creaters, river makers, the carbon dioxide thing, abducting stuff, BLOWING UP PLANETS OH **** and so much more they haven't revealed. SIXTEEN DAYS.

Title: Re: Spore
Post by: Razor on August 24, 2008, 04:23:05 AM
Good idea. ITT: Spore creations.

Instead of the normal stuff (read: fucked up ****) that most people have created, I put some effort into making a quasi-realistic creature.

This my friends is a Shrubird. It's a small, docile, herbivorous bird that relies on camouflage as its primary means of defence. Or, it would be herbivorous but I don't have the herbivore beaks, so it's currently omnivorous, which is fine too.
In a universe of food chains, not ALL creatures can be winners, so I made this to fill in the niche at the bottom.

Also, given the opportunity, I'd give it real wings instead of these quite gay fairy wings it has at the moment. Full version of Spore will fix everything.

I've had a look and the idea of Spore looks and sounfs fantastic. Plus my computer was forged in the middle of the earth by pixies so it could play Crysis 4 times at once. Therefore, not too worried about it running badly. It looks really exciting and I love every detail, especially the pre-menstrual soup or some **** kind of stage.
Title: Re: Spore
Post by: fruckert on August 24, 2008, 11:56:51 AM
Why didn't it censor fucked?
That's just weird.

Anyways the Shrubird looks pretty kickass, despite it having fairy wing-things.
Um...I ran out of things to say sooo...
Once everyone wakes up over here I'll get on and make another one of my creepy spider things.

I also found that lack of censorship disturbing. To the adminmobile!

Furthermore, Spore is really chill with crap computers. They made it so older computers can join in the lovin', which is pretty tits. In today's age of graphics over gameplay, you know they've gotta have something good when they, uh. I lost my train of thought.

TEN DAYS!

The creature creator is awesome. Here's some random things I made in a two-hour span. (http://www.spore.com/view/profile/Bluhman)

Those are only the things I saved, though. I also made a handstanding crocodile, and a weird totem pole thing with like a million weapons and hopped around on one leg.

EDIT: (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/Bluhman/Manos.png)
First guy I ever made. As an animal, though, he'd probably be very counterintuitive as a carnivore. Though he's big and strong, he's not really fast or stealthy. I guess he was made to duel elephants or something.

Title: Re: Spore
Post by: Razor on September 06, 2008, 06:20:35 AM
The game is fun. I think fun will be perennial word when describing Spore.

I haven't got buyers regret yet and I doubt I will. I'm enjoying Spore every step of the way.
It feels quite Sim-ish, I guess that's due to the Maxis charm.
I can't imagine every type of gamer enjoying it, for example the type of person whose only purchases games with "Halo" and "Call of Duty" in the title, but the person who can pick up most any game and say "hey, I'm enjoying this" I'm sure will enjoy Spore too.

I'd like to make this into a big wall of text but I seem to suck at those.
So instead, youtube videos! Some gameplay I recorded for the sake of it.

Haha.. I got spore the day it came out.  I wasn't even waiting for it really...  The day of it's release I watched some videos on it, and I got the impulse to go out right away and buy it.  One thing about it REALLY impressed me.   Within 24 hours of it's release it was rampant with walking penises and vagina monsters.  I only encountered something called a "Boobasaur" on mine..  From what I could tell it didn't look like anything too bad.. yet.   Man I laughed more than I played the game after seeing all the wonderful creations on youtube that day.

Ahh..  good old spornography

The mod.
It only seems to work for creatures; I tried to make a tank and everything on one side was upsidedown. And I ASSUMED that applied for everything else.
Also, some of my asymmetrical monsters get deleted off of Sporepedia instantly for some reason. It could just be a RIGHT NOW bug but more than likely it doesn't like them asymmetrical.

STILL, FUN

So, this is a small kick, but...
I need some help.
In the tribal stage, while I was destroying one tribe, another tribe came over to start destroying me. Well, my game saved after I destroyed said tribe. So, most of my tribesmen have limited health and I have to fight off six other tribesmen who have full health. They all have axes, and they've already started destroying my hut. No matter what I do, they either destroy the hut or kill off all of my men.
Does anybody have any tips, or am I fscked?
Title: Re: Spore
Post by: Archem on September 28, 2008, 03:10:00 AM
I haven't a clue what "fscked" means, but it sounds like a classic case of poorly timed save. Is this an autosave or quicksave or what? I don't know what types the game has, but if it's an autosave, you may have an older manual save or quicksave to load from.

Of course, if this works on a "one save file per game" thing, or you manual saved over your only save, you've learned your lesson the hard way - keep manual saves and quicksaves if you're also using autosaves. Also, keep multiple save files (I recommend two, alternating which one you save on each time). Hope this isn't the case, but if so, then you're clearly up Shit Creek with nary a paddle to be found.

Heck, you'd be surprised--EA Games is getting sued because of Spore!

See, Spore uses a special program that's embedded inside of it to know how many computers it has been installed into. The thing is, even if you uninstall Spore, the program stays in your computer, sending information to EA. People are in the process of suing EA, as they interpret such a program as an 'invasion of privacy'.

Can't say I don't agree with them...
Title: Re: Spore
Post by: Archem on October 01, 2008, 11:11:07 PM
It's also considered spyware by many people because of how it works. Also, you can't remove it without a special program. Real inconvenience. It's known as DRM, or Digital Rights Management, and while it's legal since the user must agree to use it to also use the product, it's rather annoying. DRM is used by many companies other than EA - Apple, Valve, Activision, and others either have or currently use DRM to protect their products from piracy. Ironically, the gamer community has resorted to extreme usage of piracy to show that the DRM isn't working, and that by using it, the legitimate customers are made to suffer the inconveniences brought up by DRM. It's become a case of DRM hurting sales more than it's done to ensure them. The style in which EA uses its DRM is perhaps the greatest controversy, since it has many more restriction than other forms have.

The more you know!
