Title: Plus this one makes a third John "The Ripper" Smith
Post by: Vlad Shadeu on August 22, 2008, 02:04:49 AM
1. Psychonauts
2. Tomba 2: The Evil Swine Returns
3. Liquid Kids
4. Custom Robo Arena.
5. Harvest Moon: Friends Of Mineral Town

Now, those are (Roughly) my top 5 games of ALL TIME. the top three all have a very common history: being some of the best, most original games of their respective platformers (3-d Platformer, 2 dimensioned 3-D platformer, and Arcade Platformer respectively), and, despite being some of the best in their class, nobody bought them and the company was left in seriously bad situations, as follows:

1. Lost significant amount of money because extensive time was spent planning it out (making it the best level design, humor, and characterization i have yet to see in a game.

2.Whoopee Camp is now out of business

3. Company couldn't get enough PR thus really hard to find an existing copy.

Now, of my top 5, 2 have purely 2D graphics and 1 just uses them on the side for items and such (tomba) now, i really wish i could HAVE some of these sprites, because i would love them to death and never let go, but the pure bloody fact about these is i have no ripping skills nor equipment and these sprites are IMPOSSIBLE to find throughout countless searches.

So, if anyone can find the Liquid Kid sprites or the Tomba 2 Item and Clothing sprites, than please link me to them.
If you cannot, please tell me how to rip from a PS2 and give links to E-bay or something showing me the basic equipment i will need.

Psychonauts? Zero Punctuation fan are we?
Tomba > Tomba 2
Custom Robo is very meh
Harvest Moon is too boring. This is, of course, coming from an avid Animal Crossing fan.

Psychonauts- I knew about it and played it LONG before i ever saw Yahtzee cross the stage, but yes i tune in every week.

Tomba- I dont happen to OWN a copy, i'm sure i would love it but i just plain have never PLAYED it. I got 2 for
a birthday LONG LONG ago, like when i was 6 or something, and have loved it ever since. Poor Whoopee Camp.

Custom Robo- Up until you womp the story mode (which is 500% inevitable since the game tries as hard as it possibly fricking can to make failures into greats via the life shortening per failure system) the game struck me as fairly fun, now its just constant rewomping everything so i can buy out the rest of the illegal parts. Wonderous time killer though, and the Indigo Gun struck me as one of the greatest guns the game ever provides and its stupid it provides it for free. Do you have the Chick Robo set? i does.

Harvest Moon- Give one other game that lets you live a farming fantasy life that doesn't royally stink. Rune Factory and that sci fi one dont count, although Rune Factory is, MIRACULOUSLY, not half bad.

Knowing about and claiming it to be the best game ever are very different things. Just because HM its the best in its genre, doesn't make it good. Key example is Bob Marley. Best reggae yes, but damn, 3 songs and you're already bored. No, I don't have any secret unlockables in Custom Robo because I stopped after 10 minutes due to the fact it was SO DAMN BORING.

Long story short, its solely because of Yahtzee that Psychonauts, a great game yes, got all the attention it is now.

I said MY top 5 games of all time. Read it, i did not edit it. It is best in genre and one of my top favorites. I really liked custom robo, which is wierd because it wasn't really my kind of game. Psychonauts also had horrible PR greatly enhanced by MY favorite gaming comedian. may not be YOUR favorite, but hes MINE.

Sorry bout the kick. I didn't get my question answered and nobody seemed to feel like posting.

Now i'm not the kind of guy to take stabs at things unless i feel they have abused or stabbed me first, but i think i'm right in saying ZKX drove this car the wrong way and now i still have no clue what equipment i will need or how to rip a PS2 game :( i dont mean to be mean but i was listening to the other ripping threads and i still had no clue what to do or what any of the necessary devices looked like.

Dude, you don't need any kind of devices or equipment to ripp sprites. Just the stuff to play the game on your computer.

_____________________________
Step 1, find a WORKING NES/SNES/N64/GBA/PS1/PS2 emulator.

Step 2, download it after the many troubles they put you through.

Step 3, Find the game you need stuff from.(If you can't find it, though luck. Better just get the game and copy the sprite art of it.)

Step 4, download the game and start it with the correct emulator.

Step 5, check the emulator for a capture/screenshot shortcut/function-thingy.(The GBA one is under controls but you can also record the sound or play with certain ones.)

Step 6, take a screenshot with the "Prt Sc" button next to the F12 button. OR: Use the capture/screenshot button or choose it from the emulator's options/whatever.

Step 7a, If Prt Sc was used, open paint and right click the picture and choose "Paste", you will get a copy of what your screen looked like at the time you pressed the button.

Step 7b, If any other function was used, check the folder where you have the emulator since most emulators save the screenshots as PNGs there.

Step 8, Remove everything from the picture that you don't want(background ect. so only the sprite you want remains.)

Step 9, Fix the picture so it lives up to the requirements of the RPGmaker, as in 256c max. The size limits and preferably PNG.

Step 10, Import the resource and use it.
---------------------------------------------------

NOTE: Some emulators have the option to remove layers. For example the SNES emulator: ZNES. With it you can remove background, text, hero sprites, npc sprites ect wich makes your life easier.
