Title: RTP Syndrome
Post by: Emerates on September 09, 2008, 09:03:08 PM
Yes, I am making a game.  No, that is not the name.  And, as the subject would suggest, there will be RTP.  In fact, the entire game is RTP.  The only changes are some recolors and some chipset edits (cut-and-pastes from other RTP chipsets, not particularly fancy).  I will release a demo once I finish the first section, which could be awhile...

Anyway, I post some screenshots sometime.

Also, if you ever do play it, I might throw some extra stuff in, like non-RTP sprites you can use by giving your character a certain highly specific name...  Maybe, if I get bored.

So yeah.  You can make comments if you want.  Or not.  It doesn't really matter to me.  Later.

The game has no story? No characters? No name? Give us something more, atleast tell us what it's about.

Also try to have atleast some self esteem when your writing about your game. I doubt anyone will play it (or comment for that matter) when you are all whatever I don't care.

Red fox: You were on RMRK

Emerates: I agree with foxy apple, Screenshots are helpful, story would be nice, and a title IZ a must...but IF your goona use rtp try to edit the colors as much as possiable, My friend Lukas could give you some good castle chipsets, with double doorways, Gold colored objects, and Queen and king Pictures, and Acid water

'Twould probably be helpful, but I'll only use 'em if they're pure RTP edits, not edits with other elements cut-and-pasted into it.

Also, I should probably post with a bit more gusto, shouldn't I?  When I get the time, I'll post the prompt for the whole thing.  I just didn't wanna be like 'OMG I'ma gonna blow yer guyz minds I rock', ya know?  But thanks for the input, guys.  Felix, if you wann forward those resources, I'll be glad to at least consider them, since I can't really recolor very well myself.  E'mail would work best, methinks.

I recommend BloxGen, the Version 1 (or .5 if its going as slowly as it might) because it has original tiles and recolors. Its meant to spice up your chipsets and might help ya out a little there.

Some screenshots, obviously.  Anyone who has the misfortune of looking at this page, give me some feedback please.

In case you were wondering about the random guy at the end, I set it up so you can choose your gender and fighting style, i.e. one weapon or two.

The maps need work, and alot of it.  I dare say that long before you work on the plot or dialogue you fix your mapping a bit, because, I don't intend to be mean, but the maps are painful to look at.  Also, don't be afraid to edit the RTP, just to change the flooring color so that it's not exactly the same as the roof in caves.  It makes it look much better.

Why are you even posting it if you hate it so much? ****, why are you even making it?

SHIZZLE MA NIZZLE.

I looks like my first proper game. I like it. The maps could use some work (and yes you can make rtp maps look fairly respectable with some work) but other than that, it sounds fine. Good luck.

That was a joke.  Thanks for the constructive criticism, all ye three.

Should I make the 'roof' tiles in the caves darker, or just black out everything but the edges?  I think I've seen it done both ways.  Black would probably be a lot easier, but not all of them are the actual 'ceiling' (I don't know the scientific term for the top of a cave), so yeh.  More advice needed, methinks.

Export the Dungeon chipset, rename it 'grey cave' or something like that, make it so the grey walls have a dirt floor, and recolor the roof of the grey walls black.  It should look much better, albeit still needing ALOT of work.  As for the roofs of houses and such, there's a very delicate art to making RTP houses look right.  Being that I'm a conceited bastard, I'll take this opportunity to toot my own horn.  This is the only example of RTP roofs done properly that I have readily available.  The fact that I'm the one who made it is a bonus, I guess. XD

Many thanks to you, Dominicy.  Those look way better.  Of course, I still think A-frame roofs would look fine, though.  But I'll definitely try that out.

EDIT: The official name of the game is RTP Syndrome now, until I can think of something better.

No problem.  Feel free to ask me for help in the future, too.  Given, there are better people readily available, but hey, if they're taken I'm all for helping.  If that made any sense.  I dunno, I don't feel like proof-reading.
