Post by: Jaarroho on September 19, 2008, 12:00:24 AM
Well, hello Charas! I guess it's been a pretty long time since I posted here, so I think maybe I should supply you about my game. This project's official thread is at Phanxgames, so you might want to check there if you want some more frequent updates...

Please tell me what you think, for I have been working on this for quite a long time now.

1. Neo's sprite appears during the Cannon scene

2. In the very beggining, it goes like this: \nd instead of And.

3. The aftermath is incredibly unrealistic. Please bear with me, for I am fixing it XD.

4. There are quite a few spelling errors...

Exodus~A Forgotten Legend

Story

In a far off land, a large Cannon sets it's sites on a a tiny town. The control of the Cannon plans to stop a war with this super weapon, and it must be tested, so he chose the smallest town possible that will cause the least effect.

Releasing the charge, the town is reduced to ashed...

And so is the beginning of the "Elemental Cannon"...

In a world plagued by natural disasters and teetering on the brink of destruction, four people hold the rope to sustain it.

On a quest to reunite the 15 shards of a crystal that supposedly broke and caused the start of natural disasters, for Zack, his future Fiance Alexis, his best friend Gregory, and another friend called Mia, everything seems lost.

Their town, just after receiving the quest of the shards, is destroyed by a "freak lightning bolt", sending Zack into deep depression. Half the team is very inexperienced in battle, there are people out to kill them, and the task they are sent on seems virtually impossible.

In a race against time, Zack, Alex, Mia, and Gregory must unite the 15 shards, stop a super weapon, prevent a genocide, attempt to save not only one world, but two dimensions, figure out what the heck is going on, and uncover the truth about the Crystal...

Characters

Zack Vangaurd, 17. Human
The main hero of this game, Zack is the future fiance of Alex Turpintine. He has spent his whole life in the village of Artix, and was absolutely destroyed emotional when it was destroyed. His father was his best friends, but somehow, he was the one that was responsible for the survival of Zack.
Zack has a heart of gold. He will do whatever he believes is right, and will try to be polite to everyone he meets. However, his heart is also a weakness for him. He is easily manipulated into doing someone's own will, and he seldom has the strength to finish of a villain. He looses his patience easily, but he has a large attention span, so he will always make sure the job is done.

Alexia "Alex" Turpintine, 17. Half-Elf
Zack's future fiance, her parents died really early in her life, so she has no official home. She mainly slept in the Artix Inn, and occasional disapeered into the forest for days at a time. Not quite so traumatized by the destruction of Artix, she pretty much despised the town. It was a symbol of what happened to her when she was 12... a memory that she has tried to forget.
Alex is a Half-Elf, yet everyone except Zack thinks she is an Elf. She is a not one to forget easily, so she holds a grudge for quite a long time. She is very feminine in likes and dislikes, but very tomboyish about what she likes to do. It might take awhile to gain Alex's trust, but once you have, she is a friend for life.

Gregory Levi, 18. Human
Gregory's mom died during childbirth, and so he was left with his dad. His dad is very harsh on Gregory, but he has a good reason for it, he has had a very hard life. However, Gregory's father is a good man once you get through his rough exterior. Gregory is also very upset about the town being destroyed, for he was extremely close to his father.
Gregory is defiantly a lady pleaser. When he was in Artix, he has to hide from some of the local girls, for they always seemed to follow him in a giggling mob. However, the only girl Gregory has eyes on is Mia, who happens to like him as a friend, and not as a boy friend.
Gregory is pretty much the opposite of Zack in many ways. He has the attention span of a gnat, he will not change his mind once settled, and he will do whatever to manage. Gregory is also very self-confident.
Overall, Gregory is a very lovable guy, who might have a few flaws, is still good at heart.

Mia Azure, 16. Human
Mia is the youngest of the group. She is also the most stubborn and rude. She personally has no doubt that  her parents are alive, so she doesn't feel any loss when Artix was destroyed. Mia's personality sometimes makes her hard to deal with, but she is very polite in conversation and lets everyone finish their sentence before speaking her mind. That is one of her weaknesses, she will speak anything on her mind, and that means Anything.
Mia thinks she is Gregory's best friend, but doesn't think of him as a boyfriend, never the less a crush. She has no feelings about him besides as a friend.
Mia and Gregory are the most inexperienced in battle, and it shows as bright as day. Mia and Gregory will try to talk like pros, but they obviously have no idea what they are talking about.
Mia is an Easterner, and she came to Vyderfall when she was about 10. She has always wanted to go back to the East, but she has always been bound to Artix. After the explosion, she feels free. A feeling she has never felt in her life.

Deos Neo, 28. Human
Neo is the Deos of Vyderfall. He was placed in control after the previous Deos died in battle against an Eastern Country, so he was plopped in control during a tough time for the country.
After discovering a super weapon, 18-EC, aka "The Elemental Cannon", he believes that this is going to be the finisher of the war. However, in order to make sure that it will be able to work, he had to test it on Artix, a very small village that would cause hardly any effect if destroyed. He ordered Echidna, his adviser, to make sure everyone was out of the village in a set amount of time. However, no one was out of the town once the countdown was over, so he had to destroy everyone in it.

Echidna, ??. Feline-Eur
Not much is known about Echidna, besides the fact that she is the adviser to Neo. She influences Neo in so many ways, that it seems that she is the one ruling. Echidna is the reason that none of the people besides Zack and the party got out of the town before it was destroyed. She told Zack's dad to only let Zack go, but ended up telling Mr. Levi, and Mia's parents, and that is why Mia and Gregory where saved. Echidna has a strong hate for humans, and it is still unknown why.

Odin Leto, 39, Half Elf
Comonly refered to as Leto, he used to be a Deos, but he was impeached when he tried to start a war against the elves. Soon after the impeachment, he was heard to be forming an army... There are many reasons that he might be doing this, but most people think that he is trying to kill all elves. Why he hates elves is still unknown.

Claws, ??, ??
A divine being that is in control of a parallel universe. Apparently, his world needs to be "forgiven for it's sins", and must sacrifice the world of Vyderfal in order to do so... But the what is really going on is unknown. Hardly anything is known about Claws, not even it's gender or true name.

Maria, ??, ??
Maria is a pawn of Claws. She beleives that what he is doing is for the greater good, and will try and will try to finish what she is asked. She has no clue what Claw's "Real Objectives" are.

Resu, ??, ??
Resu is the most loyal advocate of Claws, and is also madly in love with Maria. While he might know what Claws is doing, He refuses to tell Maria what is actually going on, for it will 'endanger her safety", he says.

Races

Humans: Pretty much the dominant Race, Humans live in most places in Vyderfall. The ruller of Vyderfall, AKA the Deos, Is a human. Although humans might be most dominant, they don't get along with the rest of the races, except the Feline Uer. This is why a Half-elf is so rare to be seen, because most humans don't marry elves.

Elves: The next most dominant race, Elves live at peace with nature. Though they don't live as long as they used to, their life expectancy is still 120 years. Elves age the exact same way as humans, so a 17 year-old elf would have the same maturity as a 17 year-old human. Elves have severe dislike of humans, and have faught many battles with them.

Feline Eur: A cat-like race that are usually very childlike, the Feline Eur are incredibly friendly, and it is hard to believe that the humans tried to purge the world of them. The Feline Eur usually have the maturity of a 14 year old compared to a 17 year old human or elf. They have a deep emotional bond with humans, and even though they where nearly annihilated by them, they still love humans.

Half Elf: One of the most ancient race of Vyderfall, they are a combination of Vati and the first version of Humanoid. Although they used to be called "Elves", they lost this title when they figured out how to extract the "Pure Element" of them, thus creating Elves. The half elf no longer populate the world to the degree they used to, and their are now only 100 left. The only way to tell a difference between Elves and Half Elves is a blueish ring on their stomachs.

Vati: The absolute origanal inhabitant of Vyderfall, they are an invisible being that can only be noticed by the voice you can here, and the strange feeling that you have if you are in the vicinity of one. In your last dying moments, you will see Vati if their is one near you. No one knows what a Vati Looks like, because their is obviously no living soul that knows.

The Bugrick are an extinct race that were lizard-like beings. They where master smiths, and they are extinct because they stood up against the humans in their purge. They lived up to 100 years, and were known for their intelligence.

Features
Custom battlers, Charsets, and skill animations.
Some incredibly catchy music made by the best authors
A world so vast, it will take hours to explore!
Characters that change with the story
The Tales of Symphonia Skit system
A world that has it's own history, legends, stories, and races.
An unclear plot line that will make you expect the unexpected, and become aware of everything around you.
Six different endings depending on how you play!
A Unique Bond system that will effect battles in many ways!
An Overdrive system that prevents you from button-mashing!

Bond System

Zack and Alex(ia) are obviously in a relationship. And to spruce up the battles with them, their relationship affects the stats of the whole team. The Higher the trust, the stronger the attacks. The Lower the trust, the higher the defense.

But that is not all... You can equip Zack and Alex with certain "Bond" items, and get special attacks for the combination you make. You can do the same thing with Gregory and Mia, and even rarely you can make a super strong attack by entering a four way combo! Here are five examples:

Bonds are equipped like this: Equip Zack with the one on the left, Alex the one on the Right, and for major ones, Equip Alex and Zack with the first two, and Gregory and Mia with the last.

So sacrifice would be like this: Alex with love, and blade with Zack.
Sacrifice is a skill that if Alex is dead, than if Zack uses this skill, it will revive her full health by cutting his HP down to 100, at LVL 1 it seems good, but at lvl 10+, you might want to think before cutting the HP down, and just use a Soul Orb or something.

Bonds also affect the trust between the two characters. With the Love+Love bond combo, Zack and Alex's trust skyrockets if you use this.

With the Heat+Cold combo, Alex's magic will go up by 20, but Zack's block goes down by 20 also! Every combo has a pro and a con, so think carefully when making them!

List of Bonds

Heat+Cold Bonds= Fire and Ice magic for Alex.
Love+Love Bonds= Heal for Alex.
Love+Blade Bonds= Sacrifice, a Zack Tech.
Speed+Blade= Fatal Inertia, an Alex and Zack compound attack!
2x Wind+Cold+Water= Freezing Tsunami, a 4-way bond skill for Alex, and incredible strong, too!
Aveyon: 4x Air- An air attack that causes mass damage
Oceyon: 4x Water- A water attack, much like Aveyon.
Flareyon: 4x Fire- A massively damaging Fire Attack
Electreyon: 2x Air, 2x Fire- A massively damaging thunder attack
Lover's Kiss: Love, Speed- A skill that ups the ally's speed and Attack
Power Lunge: Blade, Air- Another Zack tech...stuns one enemy

Overdrive

I'm not sure if this is the meaning most people think of, but this is what I am using. When Zack or Gregory attacks using a basic Attack 10x in a row, then he goes into Overdrive Mode, which is basically a stronger version of him that can only attack. This can be a mixed blessing in some battles, and some it can be very annoying. This is an attempt to make you not just button mash. Overdrive lasts 5 turns.

Zack Techs
Zack doesn't learn skills by Leveling up. You must find trainers to teach him Techs. There are 10 techs, not including the Bond techs.

All the Techs are custom animations that I MADE myself. I think they are pretty snazzy; Fatal Inertia is my favorite.

Zack also learns 4 blessings. There are 8, but depending on who you train with, you learn your blessings. There is one secret blessing, but it is top secret XD.

Skits
These cutscenes are fun conversations between the characters.
They give some background story, character personality info, enjoyable talks, and some info for what is going on. They even occasionally give out EXP rewards, STR, AGI, BLOCK, etc. lvls! Skits can be activated once you see the "Skit Available" Message box appear at the bottom left corner. You can activated them by pressing the any of the numbers from 1-0 on the top of the keyboard.

Run

Some real basic stuff here, if you press and hold SHIFT down, you will run. Running nearly doubles your movement speed, and is efficient to get someplace.

The World

The world does NOT use a world map (well, there is a map, but you don't walk on it XD.). Instead, you wander about a massive world. You can take a boat to get somewhere faster, or walk so you can Lvl up! Monsters are not random, for you will see monsters walking around on the maps. If you run into them, you will have to battle. However, you can NOT see ghosts on the map. They are invisible, and usually give half-decent rewards once fought.

Story
The story will span for 10+ hours. It will have 6 endings, and not endings like "How you fight the Final Boss", but actual story branches. There are 7 branches: And So it Begins, The Genocide, The Cannon, The Quest for the Crystal, The New World, The Selfish Hero, and The Revelation.
I have put deep thought in this story, and it is said to have decent writing, so I hope you enjoy it .

The History
Go to the library in each village to learn history about famous folk tales, epic legends, massive battles, political conflicts, Prophecys, and even poems!

The Music

I have chosen what I think is the best music for the game. It has some tunes from Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, some music that was made by some guy in Charas (XD), and others. I think the tunes are catchy, and I sure hope they are for you! Especially my battle theme, I spent ages finding the best one.

Fishing

So...are you stuck in the story? Well, chill with some quality time with your 'rod. With over 40 different fish, you could spend hours fishing! (well, maybe. I haven't really tested the fishing too much, so Idk if all the glitches are out yet.

Screens
(I have no clue why the size keeps jumping around. I think maybe it is because of the hosting service I use...)

Looks neat.  I was kinda nervous at first because I upload a edited version of a song called Exodus to the complete resources. o.o

I love what you did in the DBS.  Nice screens overall.

Generated face-sets = bad.  The title has be a bit confused, too.  I may or may not play this, can't promise anything.  If I do, be sure to expect a review, but odds are I'll be too busy finishing Lands of Lore (Yes... LoL) to play it.

@Geo-What? Who is Darren, XD?
@Lucas-Thanks for the comment! I never really noticed the wolf was yours...
@AFL- Yes, they are in a theater XD.
@Domincy- I am using the Generated faces because I can't make my own; I suck at drawing. But they are only temporary, for I am going to attempt to find some one who can help me make them. And why does the name confuse you? It doesn't sound that confusing...

Anyway, thanks for the comments guys!

AFL, he stole your title. And your freaky theater-fetish. WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE, MY BOY?
...ahem.
I mean, it sounds cool, and I'll check it out over the weekend. You have some cool concepts in play already, which is awesome. HOWEVER. . .
1. Nobody around here likes taking drawing requests, not much at all. I dunno why.
2. You spelled concentration wrong. "Consentration" is not a word, nor is "stike".
Keep up the good work. Games on Charas=WIN.

Thanks for the comment, Phayre! And yah, I had the feeling I misspelled Concentration. And oh my gosh, I just noticed that I don't have an "R" in Strike XD!

Anyway, I'm not going to request any drawings, for I want to make them myself. I just need to learn how to draw first, so that 'tis why I need help making them.

Thanks again for the comment! I'm glad you think that it sounds neat!

Thanks Angel! I was going to attempt to make some more poses myself for it but meh. Demo should be out this weekend if I'm lucky. My beta tester is being kind of slow XP

Anyway, after playing through most of it, he gave me two compliments: The story is very exceptional, and the music is amazing. I'm not sure if that is a good sign or what, but atleast I know my story and music is good, that is what I was focusing on the hardest XD.

Ok, I have stayed up until 3:00 in the morning bringing this to you guys...so you better enjoy it.

I hereby give to you, drum roll please, Exodus, a Forgotten Legend demo V1.0

My beta testers played it...I played it...heck, a lot of people played it, so there should be no errors that hamper the gameplay massively at all.

The average time it took for my beta testers to complete this game was 2 hours.

It does not contain all the bonds, only a select few.

Overdrive only affects Zack in the current demo.

There are no story branches in this demo!

Well, that is all. Please enjoy it and review it for me once finished.

ANYWAY, Bob, my betatester, has just sent me his review! Here is a copy of it. (One thing, the comment about Tales of Symphonia's battle system is a off; Just wanted you to know, Bob ;] )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EXODUS: A FORGOTTEN LEGEND- Review- By Jedibob5
Music + Graphics:
The music was excellent. Great music was chosen and used very effectively, and even the RTP music was used well. The graphics are great as well. One high point was the Elemental Cannon and its effects, which were absolutely fantastic.
8.5/10

Story:
Absolutely, incredibly deep! The story is amazing, and must have been thought out for a very, very long time. The storytelling is great, as well. It reveals trickles of information, and leaves you starving for more. The only things that hurt it slightly here is that the story may be a bit too confusing at times, and there are a couple of seemingly irrational actions by the main characters, but those are small nitpicks and few and far between, and completely offset by the incredible story.
9.8/10

Gameplay:
Gameplay was nice, but not incredibly groundbreaking. Combat tries some new ideas, such as the bonds system and overdrive, but doesn't completely break the mold. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, however, as the standard RPG Maker combat system sticks to a tried-and-true formula used by many games, such as Final Fantasy and Tales of Symphonia, and it works well, not to mention this game is mainly focused about the story.
7/10

Other:
The technical aspect of making this game must have been a challenge, and it must have been difficult to construct, event and still have it work.

Overall:
This game is teriffic, and looks like it will become even more so as the story develops. Jaar has put a lot of effort into this, and it looks like it will be great when it's done.
9/10
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I am proud of this review, it tickles me to know it was good! And no, don't say that I forced him to rate it like this (Idk why you would say that), for you can ask him yourself and he will tell you I told him to be completely truthful. (His email is Jedibob5@yahoo.com)

I have. I noticed the game has 'Eight Legendary Crystals' cliche. Three ovons. CLICHE!
Anyway, i still want this game to be continued.

If only bit more interesting maps, then it could be interesting.
Title: Re: Exodus-A Forgotten Legend- DEMO 1.0
Post by: Jaarroho on October 21, 2008, 02:47:54 AM
Actually four Ovons XD. But the Ovons are not objects...they are beings ^_^

...Oh snap. I guess that is a spoiler >.<.

But yah, I am not the best mapper, and I don't pretend to be (Unlike my last two projects in which I did).

But the 4 Ovons (at least I think it is four) is part of the first story branch where you choose between the 15 Crystal shards or the 4 Ovons.
Title: Re: Exodus-A Forgotten Legend- DEMO 1.0
Post by: DragonBlaze on October 28, 2008, 07:01:03 PM
Ok the game looks pretty good (I can't play it now cuz I don't have rm2k3 installed on my computer yet since I reformatted). The only thing I want to warn you about is this crystal concept, or really anything where you have to find x amount of objects to do something. Not only is this cliche, but it makes your game very predictable. Until you find all 15 shards or whatever, you KNOW that you're going to be looking for them, and whenever the player knows what he has to do throughout the game, it becomes less exciting. When I play a game, I don't like to know whats going to happen next or not knowing how the game is going to go.

Otherwise the mapping looks good, the features look great, so all in all, good :) Just make sure that if you're using a concept like find x amount of objects/things, that you DON'T have that as you're focus or it somewhat ruins the game.

It is the purpose for a little...but not too long. I tried to limit the crystal stuff to a minimum, cause as you said, it does kind of ruin the feel. Lets just say you don't find all 15 shards...

But yah, thanks for the comment! I will try and keep the crystal stuff to the minimum ^_^.

...Bump.

Is this dead?

Nope ^_^...

Just going slow. I have one drastic update:

I think.... I will go with one large storyline with variations instead of multiple story branches. I have been thinking about it very hard lately, and it just seemed more intense and thought provoking to be one large storyline instead of branches.

And it's kind of hard to make a sequel with multiple story branches, XD.

Also, if anyone says that I chose this due to the fact I can't do the branches, then I will punch you. If you need any proof, I can make a small demo to prove that I can do it if I wanted to!

A work in progress. This will be my new menu graphics for the battles. Also notice the rocks.

Anyway, here is my updates. They are mainly updates on the battle system. Heck, I think they all are...

Enhanced Tech System: Instead of Zack learning Techs from trainers, you now by "Tech Sets." Each set will contain three-four different Techs, and kind of like bonds, once you unequip the set, you lose the skills. Zack can have a total of 11 techs learned at a time if you count Bond skills, Tech Sets, Blessings, and his default Skill.

Breon's Blitz Skills: Breon is a new character to the game. His blitz skills can effect the battle in numerous ways. Take this for example, Blitz Recharge will cancel all overdrive points to him and Zack.

Battle Time:
In battle, there is now a timer that is set for 5 minutes. After 2 minutes and 30 seconds, it will become night in the battle, thus strenthening Magic skills and weakening Normal attacks. Dark spells cannot be used by the heroes during the "day" and Light spells cannot be used in the dark. A picture will show up when the time changes.

Obstacles:
In battle, you might encounter rocks, fog, high wind, rain, ETC. Each of these obstacles give you a bonus or weakness in the battle. For example, rocks will give your party a defence bonus, fog will lower their inteligence and strength, wind will lower their agility, rain will power water spells, ETC. This will give you some extra strategy in battles.

Also...

Those are a couple of Zack's techs. There not the only ones, but it is a portion of them.

Yah. I know. I have not updated this in a looooonnnngggg time. But I am still working on it. I hope you guys are a still a tad bit interested in it...

Looks nice, though I looked real quick. It may be your image host but may I suggest getting acquainted with IrfanView? It's a program that allows dropping color to 256 with little "damage" to your image.

*Phew* I finally read through everything, lol.  Let me just say this, the game is looking very good.  As i scrolled through the pages I noticed your screens improving which is a very good thing.  Your story is a bit cliche I'll admit but then again what isn't these days huh?  I'm sure you've got plenty of twists and turns to make it interesting so no worries there.  As a fellow game maker I understand how difficult it is to work on a game and paint all of your ideas into it with getting little feedback so that's part of why I'm posting some stuff here lol.  But don't get me wrong I'd say something anyways well cause....I want to!  lol.  Anywho, before I rant, keep it going and don't lose the faith man.  I've been working on the same game for like 3 years X_X.  But I still love the game and the story and stuff so there's no problem.  Alright well I'm done, lol.  If you need any help with anything feel free to ask me, I'd be glad to offer my assistance. :)

Hehe, thanks for the comments, guys. I am glad you guys are interested in this game.
...
I remember when I posted my first game here...I was such a snobby brat, lol.

@Link- Wow! Thanks a lot, Link! I'm glad that you are interested in my project! Yah, I know your pain with the no comment stuff, so yah. Thanks a ton! Yah. The story is somewhat cliche, but there are several twists in it...but I don't know if that makes it un-cliche XD.
I appreciate your post a lot ^_^ .

ANYWAY. Updates. XD. Has been so long before I updated this.

I am almost finished with the game. I have to finish the battle workings and stuff, I have to work on the numerous glitches, put in a ton more skits, finish the ending, put in some side quests (I hate doing that -_-), update some of the maps and graphics, flippin' get my two beta testers to ACTUALLY FINISH IT and review it, and stuff like that.
...
Man, still seems like a ton of work -_-.

Now, I warn you, I am putting up some screens. But they contain MASSIVE spoilers, in some ways. If you don't want to know who the final boss(es) are, then don't click on the links.

Now, there are two other battles you fight before this, so it is a pretty intense and strenuous battle, for you don't get healing at all. But the over all battles are not hard at all, as long as you have healing items (Mainly Perfumes), and are the appropriate level (at the full game, I recommend 65-70.) So yah. XD.

This scene is the dialogue before the battle.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss216/jaarroho/FinalScene2.png
Fighting the first stage of the boss...AKA the main villain.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss216/jaarroho/FinalScene3.png
The first form of the "final" final boss.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss216/jaarroho/FinalScene4.png
The second form of the "final" final boss.
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss216/jaarroho/FinalScene5.png
The final form of the "final" final boss. So this is the last battle in the game...maybe.

I have finally finished everything I need to program for battles. It took me forever to make the obstacle system...but eventually I figured out that there really was a "Change Battle Background" option. As you can see, I am slow.

Anyway, I don't have too much more to say. To be honest, I haven't really worked on this for awhile now... -_-... so I probably should just get off my lazy behind and finish it.

Well, that 'tis all. It isn't much- at all. Just felt like telling you guys that.

Well, I hope you are still interested in this...

Exdeath sure is a common choice for final bosses.

Looks good. Keep it up.
