If you haven't read it, do so. Now. Any book, just. Just do! I think it's no stretch to call him the best satirical writer I've seen in the last years. Especially his latest books, not that I have anything against the character of Rincewind, but looking back now, he's not at the level of Vimes or Death.
Anyone else heard of him?
-
Not exactly, but it sounds interesting
I'll go find a copy
Cause I'm an avid reader, and avid readers like to read
And it sounds good
I'm giddy
Where's my doughnut?
-
Good boy. *pats in the head*
-
This a novel or what? Because I don't buy graphic novels any more, since they're too expensive these days.
-
Nay, it's a book series. Or various, rather, the most famous being the DiskWorld series. Others include the Nomes trilogy and a stand alone book he made with Neil Gaiman(think that was the name) called "Good Omens", which is also one of my favorites.
-

Yeah, I heard there was a game, never played it though. Besides it was based off of the Rincewind series, and as I said, not exactly his best character.
-
I might check it out after I finish the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy. I'm on the last part.
-
I'm trying to find a copy, might end up getting it in a month or so
Sounds like an awesome series
-
I've read three of the earlier books, actually I think it was the three first. And I love them. But I usally just start reading them when I got nothing else to read since they are not that long. But now I'm stuck in the Wild Cards series so it will be awhile untill I read another one.
-
First my friend and no you. GOddamn, she always mentions it when books come up.
-
Death. Oh, good Lord, Death...you gotta love Death. I MEAN, HE'S ALWAYS SPEAKS IN ALL CAPS. HE ACTUALLY GETS AWAY WITH SPEAKING IN ALL CAPS.
Cruise control aside, I love the way Pratchett mixes satire with fantasy. His puns are hilarious, I might add--Monty Python is no match for him. His are the only books that have actually made me laugh from start to finish--I was laughing every paragraph when I read 'Good Omens'.
-
I've always meant to read them but haven't gotten round to it.
Is it the sort of thing I need to start from the beginning?
-
Not necessarily, a lot of his books doesn't have any direct connection with the others, but I'd suggest trying to find the first book for each character at least
First Book / Character
The Coulour of the Magic / Rincewind and Twoflowers
Guards! Guards! / Sam Vimes and all the Night Watch
Reaper Man / Death
Going Postal / Moist von Lipwig
Wyrd Sisters / Granny Weatherwax
Monstrous Regiment / Whatwashername?
Perhaps others I do not own.
Some characters make cameos in other character's books (Death for one I believe appears in all of them at some point) but as long as you know the main characters, there won't be much damage. And his books are usually a mindf*** anyway, but in the good sense.
