Title: My midis
Post by: Ferkvbm on October 01, 2008, 09:54:18 PM
Hi! It has been a long time! Well...i'm here because finally I did those things I had to do and it would be cool to learn a little more about composing songs, so, here I am again to post what I do. In spite of I still can't exactly compose what I think I hope this time the midis sound more like they should be ^^

I'll Start posting an arranged version of the Neverdying waltz, and with this question: Should I post the midis I sent to resources too?

Neverdying Waltz: http://www.axifile.com/?7797675

I'll also send...
Spanish Taverns: http://www.axifile.com?7991839

Hope you like them, feel free to criticize (but please, be gentle, long time I don't compose) ^^

It was a boring day when I found the man of the guitar again, and we made this song, he put the base and I created the main melody (unfortunately, I was not able to compose the base he did, so I had to change it)
I think it's too short but it loops for now, if someday I make it longer I'll let you know.

An old request

Maybe I'll make one for the contest if i have time ^^

Machine graveyard reminds me a bit of the music from Phantasy Star.  To answer your question in your first post, yes, submit these to the Complete Resources, they're pretty awesome :3

Thanks a lot fot the answer ^^ I'll remake some of the midis because some of them really do not sound as good as they should.
Here is the first old one:
Erdgas: http://www.box.net/shared/0o2otjnv61
It's very simple, and it was made just to test those instruments but it's not bad at all.

All your midis are really impressive. Spanish Tavern prolly would've been awesome without the clapping. You seem to have a very good grasp on music.  :)

I composed this midi to fit with the situation of a city trying to defend itself from the wrath of a legendary sea monster. Hope you find it useful! It loops ^^

Fantastic. Your MIDIs have a very classic feel to them, like they're from the glory days of 8/16 bit consoles. I agree with dren that Spanish Tavern's clapping hurt it a bit, but rather than removing it, I think it would be cool if you made it follow the beat like actual castanets. It's hard to describe here, but castanets usually follow the beat with fast triplets and evenly spaced eighth notes (that was off the top of my head, so it's probably not exact). What I mean is like... rather than constant clapping it'd be more like... uh... "clap. clap. claclaclap." Yeah, haha sorry, no idea if that makes sense.

My favorite is definitely a tie between Neverdying Waltz and Sea God's Rage. Neverdying Waltz was great, like FF and Nightmare Before Christmas like MT said, and Sea God's Rage felt right out of Golden Sun. It was subtly intense and well put together with only a few instruments, which just goes to show you that a lot of instrument embellishment isn't always the key.

Anyway, nice to have a new composer I really like here. :) I'm always pretty critical so it's definitely not common for me. :P

I know the clapping is a little annoying, I should learn a little more about rythm tracks.
Golden Sun? I wish I could compose like that, that game has a lot of great songs ^^

Here is another one :

Well...here it is, the first song I decided to compose, but not the first I did.

First song: http://www.box.net/shared/slg73d0dse

I don't like the end, but I've got in my mind an arranged version that soon will solve this problem (as soon as I can)

Finished practicing some things so I hope to send something new soon.

These are amazing, bro!! I really liked Neverdying Waltz, Erdgas, Sea God's Rage, and Wind Temple. And the "main song" wasn't so bad... great used of counterpoint. May I ask what program you use, cause you're kicking it's ass!

I use Anvil studio, it's a VERY easy to use FREE program. So easy that even someone who has no idea of what a counterpoint is can use it. Just google it and you will find it on the main web. Good luck!

The only critisism I have is that at points they sometimes sound a little confused. I really liked the last one you posted. Hell, I liked all of 'em.

I know sometimes my midis may sound confusing, that and the short duration are my worst mistakes for me, I hope I'll be able to correct it with time. I said I would make my main midi longer and I will, but not yet. Trying to remake the whole song I made a very cool intro theme (I really like this one, but it's still too short and based on a midi I already made)

"Epic" Remake: http://www.box.net/shared/0a1xqfli07

I also noticed that one of the links didn't work, now it does here.

Next one is a battle theme I just started to whistle when i was reading a book about Iberian war againist Romans so I really don't know if I heard it somewhere or it's my song.

As a midi maker you are very good and your midis have got really awesome things and are longer, and that is really hard to make for me. As I said everyone has his good and bad things but...time to time.
Sorry for my English I didn't practice it for years.

I made this song because I liked a lot the one on the RTP and I thought it would sound great as a battle theme.

Well, here is the midi and another one:

My first Blues! Yay! I finished it! Long time ago I made my first waltz and now I come with my first blues! Well, I tryed to make it perfect but I must admit it sounded much better with the flute but here it is:

I'm not keen on the blues one... It just feels dead. I really like the blues but the feeling it has is really hard to capture with midi sounds.

Crimson drunkard is really cool though.

Your midis are great. I actually liked the mp3 version of Crimson Drunkard better than the midi version.

Blues is a little weird, and adventure seems a little weird too. But they're all still really good.

Imagine a dark mansion always engulfed by a strange mist that sometimes shows strange shapes and shadows.Imagine the wind, maybe, moving the doors and the windows, an old collection of toys and puppets that if you look at them, you will realise their smiles are as terrible as the feeling of being observed by something. And a ghostly presence that secretly guides the travelers to despair and fear, just to drain their souls as they forever become part of the curse.

Just the midi I made for another contest.

Remember "Ode to a ford"? Thanks to youtube and to my flute I improvised a new melody. Here it is:

"An abandoned castle that still has got treasures of the highest quality. It's paintings, frozen memories of better times are windows to the ancient artist's minds...and a valuable merchandise too."
Ruins of old Aristocracy: http://www.box.net/shared/1b80nb33va

I'm not too proud of that one but it deserves to be longer and better, so if you have any suggests they would be apreciated ^^

------------------EDIT-------------------------
This is just a song i made for practice, as always, I don't know if I really composed it or I heard it somewhere because it came to my head "magically" (and I like to compose those midis but I hate the feeling that maybe they're someone else's work)

"A seemingly eternal gallery with the creations of a whole life of effort, a sculptor's testament inherited by the land itself"
Sculptor's poetry: http://www.box.net/shared/ufe4qynukh

"Energy flowing, seemingly endless thoughts...a portion of eternity"
Portion of eternity: http://www.box.net/shared/8k00hi16gn
It just came to my mind while going to the underground and as always it's "mine"

I really don't like to post songs that are not finished but some friends said that maybe this midi is from someone else (but they don't know who  ) So, I'll leave it as a project until I find the truth. See you!

This song came to my mind when I was seven while I was watching a tree (weird, uh?)
I'm really not sure if I did this or I heard it somewhere but I really like it. A bit empty, maybe.

This one is a bit too short, but I just did it to practice some things (basically chorus and the "double voice")
Feel free to edit, use or burn this one, I release it.

I'm back once again! At last I could find some time to compose! So here is one more:

Fearless justice: http://www.box.net/shared/cjz3o7pggo

I also have a final boss version of "in memoriam" but it needs a few changes yet.
More and better (I hope) coming soon!
Title: Re: My midis
Post by: Ferkvbm on September 05, 2009, 08:40:30 PM
Remember "in memoriam"? I remade it as a final boss looking theme. Unfortunately, what I composed it's still very far away from what I was thinking...but this is a "beta" song, so I'll make it longer or better once I learn how, because I just discovered that solos, organs and orchestral hits are one of the most horrible things in the world if they are not used properly >_<

“Behold! I am the alchemist beyond life and death, I am the incarnation of despair! I am Erdgas Solberg Delden! Prepare to disappear into this endless symphony created by darkness itself!”

Spiral symphonic crescendo  http://www.box.net/shared/785458dq7x

While I learn to compose this song I'll send some more easier midis soon!

A very wonder rendition of Memoriam, but I must admit that the orchestra hits are a tad overpowering, at least on my end. I muted that track manually and it really is a very good rendition.

Ah...Europe! This song came to me thanks to the streets of a very nice town. I just started whistling it while I was walking.

It's a bit frustrating because this one is a jazz "inside my head" but I just couldn't get the tune nor the rhythm so I had to do a lot of changes. Still like it a lot in spite of those HATEFUL mistakes.

"The sun goes down once again, but the old forest shines with his own light after every twilight, while many creatures awake under the cover of nocturnal leaves."

I've never listened to your stuff before, but I must say...I'm rather impressed.
The intro on Purple Nocturnal Leaves is kind of jarring, but it manages to catch up on itself.
Pretty good job.
Title: Re: My midis
Post by: Zerlina on September 20, 2009, 03:58:47 PM
I really liked your Purple Nocturnal Leaves :) The only thing I'd say is that some parts start to get repetetive...for example at 0:47 we've already heard this line. While it makes sense to come back to it there, it might be nice to do a variation on it since it's already been established earlier...it would catch the audience  by surprise.
Good job :)
Title: Re: My midis
Post by: Ferkvbm on September 23, 2009, 07:55:57 PM
This one looks a bit more of what I wanted to compose, but still seems a bit "blurred" to me and I'll update it once I know how to fix it (Like with all the other midis)
I'm working on purple nocturnal leaves once again and this time I won't stop until I make it it at least 90% correct!

"Then I saw her at the clock tower, like an angel, smiling with madness burning inside her eyes, and I knew she was no longer the one I loved."
Servant of Atropos (arranged) http://www.box.net/shared/11d9gf9l7r

-----EDIT-------
"Fixed" I need to be better if I want to repair it properly. Next month maybe I'll sudy music on a conservatory (at last some organizational skills to my chaotic mind) so until I learn enough I'll just delete the weird sounding part of the track. Thanks again for the help!

The lead piano near the end sounded out of tune, and wanted me to start gouging out my eyes.
Other than that it sounded alright.
Very Final Fantasy sounding.
Title: Re: My midis
Post by: Ferkvbm on September 24, 2009, 12:49:58 AM
Thanks a lot! It also didn't sound correct to me but now I'm sure something must change. I think you mean the whole 1:04 to 1:33or just 1:26 to 1:33, but maybe I'm wrong. Can you specify the second in the song so I can replace it ? I also think that what might be wrong maybe is the piano that follows the leading one near the end... it's just that feeling of "I know there is something horribly wrong but I don't know what"
I'll try to correct it as soon as I wake up (It's 2:50 A.M. here) Thanks again!
Title: Re: My midis
Post by: fruckert on September 24, 2009, 01:07:02 AM
I mean the whole 1:04 to 1:33, it just sounds horribly off key.
It kind of fits the whole "Mad friend" backstory, but it still fires my OCD to a rage.
It still has a nice epic boss feel to it though.
Title: Re: My midis
Post by: Hell Angel on September 24, 2009, 01:29:46 AM
I agree with Fruckert on this one, Ferk. Channel 7 from 1:04 on sounds very out of key with everything else.
