Title: Favourite console
Post by: Drace on October 21, 2008, 07:55:22 AM
What is everyone's favourite console?

To me, the absolute best console is still the Playstation 2. From everything from the graphics to the controller, it just feels perfect. Sure it has a lot of shitty games, but it also has a lot of awesome games out there. A gigantic list of games, actually. It is also the console that ranks #1 with my quantity of games just because I love it so much.

I love wahtever console that brings me the best games.
Graphics is "Whatever" as long as they surpass the earlier generations. But I'm not a graphic whote who goes "OMG FF5 has so bad graphics. I'll go play my Devil may cry!" No really, I'm not.

There've been a lot of greaaaaaaaaaat games with "meh" graphics. But that's what I like. I totally prefer gameplay and/or story over high detailed graphics. Nintendo showed us that it was possible to make cool effects and graphics with sprites on GBA with Fire emblem.

So yeah....

NES(Just because it got some kick-*** retro games, they were before my time though so I don't own one).
SNES(A lot of revolutionary games like Star Fox and some complete classics like Clocktower, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger ect.)
Nintendo 64(My childhood friend, Super smash, mario kart, super mario 64, goldeneye, star fox again, kirby, banjo kazoiee. Awesome games for an awesome time.)
PS2(Amazing step up from the PS1, loads of good games- LOADS. And it allowed me to finally play FF7-9.)
Wii (Original concept, confortable controlls for us slackers, graphics went up, new generations of classic games. There's nothing bad with this. Sure, a lot of "kid's game" but hey- we all need something to lighten up the day after we've had 4 hours of math and physics.)

DS or PSP???
DS, totally. Graphics are kinda like N64/PS1 but I don't care. A lot of good games. Remakes of classic games and some sequels. Just amazing. PSP only got FF7CC, FF Dissidia and Kingdom hearts on me will probably get one when they are released.

Why do you choose N64 over PS1?
Simply because there wasn't that many games I wanted for PS1, and PS2 was already under production back then. When my father told me that I could only get one - I choosed the console with the games that could entertain me AND my friends.

Why do you choose Wii and not the awesome powers of PS3?
Because PS3 screwed up- They spent too much money on a machine with the best at everything that the price rose too high. With high costs - sales decreased. With bad sales - Gamemakers tried to find and option to sell their games. The solution was 360. Now, nothing wrong with a PS3 - It's just that there aren't that many good games out here yet, once we got Metal gear, devil may cry, resident evil and/or final fantasy xiii I will definatly get one. But for now- It would only be a decoration - an expensive decoration.

So... If the good games will be released for 360 and PS3, why didn't you get a 360?
Good question. And the answer is that most games are graphics there as well. Nothing wrong with that, but all the xbox fandboys goes on my nerves with their Halo talk. If you got a 360- You better get Halo as well or you're a noob apperantly. And I rather stick to FPS with a real crossahair and not a controller stick. That's why I prefer Wii and a computer for FPS. And if I did get a 360, My brother would rape it every day he's home. He would get all those FIFA, NHL, Grand turismo and stuff and I wouldn't see the controller in my hand for the entire week.

Those are jsut my thougths though.

PS2, and then Wii, and then Sega Genesis, and then PS1.

Does Windows 95 count? XD  If not, a tie between PS1 and PS2.

I can't pick. It's impossible. I love them all so much!

But because it's a cheap answer, I'll go with "PC".

Sega Dreamcast, no other answer. Why? SWORD OF THE SONIC JET SET SKIES OF PHANTASY.

PS2 then... N64. I'm young-ish, so the 64 was my first actual gaming experience. My siblings had the SNES, followed by the Genesis, but they were sold/broken before I really remember any of it. I do remember Vectorman on Genesis though, kinda.

But yeah, PS2 rapes. Pretty much word for word what Drace said, for me.

Snes, what can I say, I'm a sucker for pixel graphic and the snes have the best pixel games imo.

I wish I had memories of that variety, but I never really had a PS2. I would have gone and got one by now, but the damn things are still $120! That's just too damn much for something that old!

It's still worth it in my opinion. There are some great games for it.

I think I would've liked a 360, but I couldn't bring myself to get one because I had an original XBOX and had no luck with it. I didn't like 95% of the games and my controllers slowly broke and it stopped reading discs and eventually, it just started to collect dust in my room. There's no reason to use it. However, I got a GC because I was tired of my luck with XBOX and loved it. I loved the games, didn't care about the shitty graphics people were complaining about, and just had so much fun playing it. So then, I asked, why would I get a 360 over a Wii? I loved NES, SNES (though I didn't have one, but Sega died past this point anyway so it's not like it applies here), N64, GC, Gameboy, GBA, and DS all so much, so I figured why would I NOT get the Nintendo product? End result, I'm happy, though I think there's a lot I would've liked on 360, considering some of the games I've seen that NEVER would've been on the original XBOX.

So after all is said and done, my favorite console ever is probably... GBA. Yes, my favorite console is a handheld. It was just so freaking awesome, though. Maybe if I had a SNES I would've liked that better, but most of the SNES greats were rereleased on GBA anyway, and then there were the original games like Golden Sun that made it so awesome. I just played so many great games on GBA that I have to call it my favorite. I think it's the last console on which I actually enjoyed RPGs. In general, I hate new RPGs, as they are far too obsessed with being VAST and EPIC and OPEN-ENDED. **** that, give me a story, give me some characters, give me some cool gameplay elements, let me play.

After GBA would definitely be PSX, ironically.

tl;dr Favorite console is GBA, followed by PSX.

Oh, my god...for a moment, I wished I was a woman.....

My favorite console? Surprisingly....GBA. It had a lot of great portable games. It brought us Fire Emblem, Drill Dozer, and three great Castlevanias. It brought back Breath of Fire, Shining Force, and five Final Fantasies. It brought me to Boktai 1 and 2. I STILL think Megaman Battle Network 3 was one of the best multiplayer games ever. While Gunstar Super Heroes wasn't as good as the original, it was fun nevertheless.

Most of all....Astro Boy: Omega Factor. That has to be the best action game I've ever played. That, and it's the only game (or, hell, only STORY) whose ending has made me tear up. Not cry, mind, but tear up.

I see all of those "Petz" and "Spanish Tutors" for the DS, and so few RPGs and action games. on the DS..I can't help but sigh, and wish I was back in '03, with all of those awesome GBA games I hadn't played, waiting for me to buy them. Lunar, Megaman Zero, Shining Soul 2, Sigma Star Saga, Metal Slug.....I wish I could find those games, even if I only played them once.  But things are looking up. for the DS. Izuna 1 and 2, Bangai-O Spirits, Advance Wars DS, Pokemon Pearl and Diamond, Bleach: Dark Souls, Custom Robo Arena, Dragon Quest IV, FFIV, Jump! Ultimate Stars....there's potential! Now, all we need is another Earthbound...I'd also like that new 'Phantasy Star Zero' (I think that's what it's called) to come stateside.

Otherwise, GBA all the way. Genesis, in terms of old-school, PS2 for modern-era, by the way.
