Title: Music for a 'real' game (so I can't use ripped music :( )
Post by: DragonBlaze on October 28, 2008, 07:13:25 PM
Here's the story, I'm leading a project at school where we're making a computer game, we're making the game with java as opposed to any 'makers'. When we're done, we plan to distribute it (for free of course :)). Problem is, none of us are musically talented, and since this is a 'school' project, we cannot use any ripped graphics or music or anything. Graphics isn't a problem, but music is. So it would be awesome if I had someone who could help us out and make a few pieces for us.

At the same time we're making this game, I'm working on making my own separate game, the reason being is that we only have a few hours a week to work on this, and no one knows (or rather no one knew) how to code a game with java, and so I had to learn it myself first so I could share what I learned with the rest of the group. So this leads me to make my own game, and again, I have no music.

As far as I'm concerned, we only need one set of music for both games, but I thought I would give the background anyway.

Both games are side scrolling action games, and we're modeling ours on the game Contra (Side scrolling third person shooter). We have no official story as our game is more for learning purposes than an actual deep thought out game, but so far our story is an 'over-drematic' game where a lone hero seeks to overthrow an evil dictator. Again, its not much, but we plan to make it fun, short, and somewhat funny.

We would only need a few peices of music, mainly a title/theme music, some action music for a few stages, and then possibly a game over theme, and thats it.

So if anyone could help out, that would be awesome! Credit will of course be given ;)

What format will you be using? I have a bunch of old stuff you might be able to use, but I haven't really been actually writing anything for a while.

I've got a rock theme I've been working on for awhile.  Freewebs is being amazing right now, though, so I can't show you an updated version... There's an early form of it in my MIDI thread, so... check it out, see if you like it.  I think it'd go good with an actiony thing.

For the format I was thinking midi, but midi, wav, and mp3 will all work just fine.

Sweet I'll check it out :)

EDIT: Okay I think I listened to the one you were talking about, it would fit perfectly into the game, so with your permission, I would like to use it in the game, at least probably lol.

Sounds cool. Almost all my instruments are back home so I can't really make anything (it would lack drums, for one thing) but good luck with the game.
