Title: Some guitar stuff (in video format)
Post by: Desimodontidae on October 29, 2008, 06:32:39 PM
So I've been practicing a lot. And I came up with a few licks. Maybe they will inspire someone to come up with stuff of their own. Just let me know what you think.

Cool. I find it weird that you find three finger tapping harder than two finger tapping, because I kinda find it the other way around. I find a little harder to maintain a tap when there's an open string in there... It tends to do odd things.

Yeah. Well when I first started tapping, I learned Metallica's "One" solo... which is what I actually play at the beginning of the video. I have difficulty with 3 finger tapping because I've only recently included it in my playing style. Also, I try to put my fingers in weird positions to make unique sounds, because, if you're not careful, it's really easy to make it sounds just like 2 finger tapping... and why work harder for the same sounds?

The one open tapping lick is just like

|-0-2-3-5-3-2-0-| on the high E, hammer the 2 and 3, tap the 5, then pull off to descend. then just replace the tapped 5 with other notes ascending the Em scale, (7, 8, 10, 12, etc...)

That is a very basic lick with open strings incorporated... I really can't explain how to make it sound good, but I will say it doesn't sound so great once you get around the 12th fret +...

Ditto. Except for the VERY beginning, but... it was the title.

Sorry, I know the guitar was a bit loud and also I am not a singer so my singing voice isn't that loud. Which is why I had to put the lyrics in the description.

Heck? What?

Oh. I see. It's because it's retarded.
Occurring or developing later than desired or expected; delayed. Get it? It's word play!

..what?

Anyways. This really isn't "creative", just me messing around, but its improv, which is kind of an art, right?

Improve? Heh, I don't think I've ever played an instrument without it being improve... Hell, I don't think I've ever played an instrument*!

Pretty neat sounding. It could be a little better, but it could be a hell of a lot worse, so read my mixed message how you will.
* Kidding! I've played instruments of assorted varieties before, but none very well.

Most of it is very flat, lacking any defining characteristics. A few parts get to be mildly interesting, but there's not a whole lot going for this song other than mass repetition of the same thing. Can't rate this very highly, to be honest.

nice rhythm, but it actually needs to be less repetitive.

Heading in the right direction, Des. You can definately rock.

Ignore Archem, for some reason he's expecting some kind of top-notch ****, instead of taking it for what it is. Just a cool jam with a nice rhythm. You can keep speed alright and you know what to do. Now you just got to get a hang of actually doing it.

Heading in the right direction, man.

Don't discredit my opinion, you ***hole! I gave it because he asked, and it's clearly a major repetitive piece of chords! I'm hardly expecting anything top-notch, but I am expecting something memorable or enjoyable instead of bland and similar, especially after seeing some of his other videos!

Step on my toes again, and I'll rip your ****ing head off.

Mmm, getting violent in here are we?

Anyway, for a rhythm part, this is pretty good. You obviously have lots of skill and potential. If you had any kind of recording software, you could smack it onto a drum beat, layer some lead parts onto it, and it would sound great.

However, on it's own it is quite bland and repetitive.

Yeah... well thanks for the comments. The reason it was repetitive was because it's an actual song. There chorus, verse, all that good stuff. I wrote it, pretty much as it's presented in the video, me and my friend jammed on it and come up with something cool. It probably would sound better in context, vocals, drums, bass, etc... but.. meh.

Actually, it's a little longer than what I recorded, but I thought it was already repetitive enough...

I will post more. Hopefully I can get a jam with the band recorded.

See, that's infinitely better than the last one. It's entertaining, soulful, and has a melody. Try doing that whenever possible, and all is cool.
