Story
In the year of 578 A.R. (After Reformation), the Kingdom of Rosale was raided by the evil Xale Empire in a tyrannical attempt to conquer the Symerian continent. While they succeeded in destroying the the territory, the Ascendian Kingdom dominated their forces before reaching their own kingdom. Many lives were lost, and Rosale was never restored.
Fifteen years later, Xalian forces have taken arms and are prepared to attack once again. Now their main target is Ascendia.

Q & A
Wait, aren't you working on another game?
Yes. .hack//Refresh is on temporary haitus. I will go back to it once the story of Symeria is complete.
What's a [insert class name here]?
A blade shifter is a swordsman ho has the ability to extend the length of his blade in order to attack more enemies. A blade charger is a swordsman who has the ability to charge elemental magic into his blade for more powerful attacks. An orb crafter is a mage who channels his/her abilities into a small orb, causing for greater accuracy, compared to a regular mage.
I never once read anything about sky pilots while reading the story. Where do they come in when the rest of the information implies a medieval-style setting?
It's not a medieval-style setting. I just can't reveal too much right now.
Screenshots?
This game is still in the early stages of pre-production. I haven't even begun to touch RPG Maker yet. Be patient.

Aspiring sky pirate + war-waging kingdoms = FF12?

Oh well. Sounds good. If you get some real progress done, I'd be all for helping out and such.

Once again, not really touching the computer part of this until I get some pre-production done. However, I can give you guys some history and whatnot. I've seriously fleshed out an entire world history.

New character added. More to come, as well as an explanation of the continent of Symeria, including the kingdoms and their individual histories.

The Continent of Symeria
Kingdoms and Histories
Symeria was first explored by Spior Heathland, an explorer from the Pinnet Islands in 248 A.R. (After Reformation). He established the Kingdom of Xale. After this, other explorers from Pinnet followed Heathland's lead, forming three more kingdoms: Ascendia, Rosale, and Flandaur.

In 248 A.R., an explorer named Spior Heathland founded the continent of Symeria, naming it after his mother. He soon returned to his home in the Pinnet Islands with the news and was told to colonize it. He soon established the Kingdom of Xale, keeping close ties to Pinnet for several years.

Xale is known for its radical political views, and usual unlawful ways.

When lesser citizens of Pinnet heard of the new colony in Symeria, the sought out the royal soldier Kain Kendor to take them over their to colonize a new kingdom. When they arrived, the found that the land had not been taken. Kain noticed the strange abundance of roses growing in the are and dubbed it Rosale, declaring himself king in 249 A.R.

Rosale was known for its neutral standpoints as well as willingness of acceptance.

In 304 A.R., Lord Spior was to announce the new King of Xale. His two sons, Sion and Xavier were polar opposites; Sion was fair and just, whereas Xavier was cruel and selfish. Xavier knew his brother would be appointed, so he poisoned his father, leaving the decision to the priest. Not knowing of the late king's wishes, he appointed Xavier to the thrown because he was the eldest. Furious that somebody as wicked as Xavier was ruling over Xale, Sion gathered followers and lead them to the northeastern corner of the continent, forming Ascendia.

Ascendia is known for its strong armies and views of justice.

[Check Back Soon]

Flandaur is known for its trade, all routes having to cross through it.
I'd like to keep my opinion out until I see some kind of art direction, but I am watching.

Well, yes -- but I meant more for in-game graphics or landscape art. :3

Still a bit too early for in-game anything. Not to say I haven't done some mock sprites. I'm making the game in VX, so I have to learn some new spriting skills as well. And some coding skills >_>
At any rate, anything I do on the computer is definitely not final, so I won't post any of that until it is.

Just curious... what happened to your .hack game? If you've scrapped it, will you be using the same graphical style here? I really liked that style.

I haven't scrapped it; I do wish to return to it later.
As far as graphics go, I'm still not too sure. More than likely, it will be extremely reminiscent to the style, just a bit more detailed.

Wowzers! Those stat maps don't mean anything to me, but the colours and icons are getting my creative juices going!

You should totally have a custom levelling system in your game!

Looks very nice! Giving each character thier own "theme" color and screen like that makes each one seem to have their own personality and idividuality making them more interesting.

Nice, but I think there's too much going on in the background. You need to do something with those text at the side. The last 2 are hard to see clearly; the first, not so much but it is borderline.

This game looks full of hope and promise! Please don't make it one of those "You must visit the king with a basket
and then travel West to the town of Yifoaekp and team up with a young, shy girl who uses white magic and nothing else."

You have to create something original and brilliant. I'm keeping my eye on this one! :D

Thanks for the comments, guys :)

I've had a lot of time to flesh the story out a lot more since the original postings, and I've been playing around in RPG Maker the past few weeks. Right now I'm working on mapping several of the cities, forests, mountain ranges, etc... I'll try and get some landscape shots up soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
