Title: my first request
Post by: arcaine91 on November 24, 2008, 09:53:08 PM
hello, i am new to these forums. im not bad at rpg, but i AM bad at making my own resources. At some point in the future when im more confident of my skills, i have a massive project in mind, but for now im sticking with the small stuff. So, here is my first request.

I need a Pikachu charaset, faceset, and battlechara, but here's the thing:
-i dont like the happy-go-lucky standard pikachu. id like one with a more serious, grim tone.
-formatted for rpg2003, as close to the included charas as possible (i want it to be able to fit alongside default chars without looking out of place)
-idle-standing, serious expression, crackling electricity optional.
-attacking, similar to standard, with weapon-usage
-left and right can be either walk or run
-victory pose, something simple and not too overenthusiastic
-item, damage, dead, etc, no preference
-skill use, electricity surging around it
-faceset, just a more serious look
this is my first post, and i dont know how to attach things, sorry. if you dont know what Pikachu is, the best i can ask is to google image it, im not very good with descriptions.

i will give credit where it is due. if ive violated any rules, im sorry...

Yeah, Pikachu huh?
Well, I bet you could find some custom sprites at the spriters resource or drshnaps.

Just add them to a template and it's done really. Add some pixels to the eyes and remove the happy mouth.
Making something that requires a lot of time(and kills) such as making the body and movement of a pikachu is one of those things that usually doesn't happen when all the spriters either have a life or just got too mcuh to do at the moment.

ok ill give it a try. do they have facesets there too? (keep in mind i STINK at getting things in the right format, so if any special arrangements or changes outside of color editing have to be done, ill probably screw it up)

i found the spritesheets, but to be honest...

i have no idea how to sprite, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

also, none of the sheets i can find have all of the poses i need, but i suppose i can just edit the existing ones to fit what i need...

Spriting can be done with any pixel-based painting program on the computer.
I use paint myself.

But I think they had facesets in Mystery dungeon, so I guess you can find pikachu there.

And when you got the sprites, post them here and I could arrange them into a battlechar template.

I could give you the pikachu charset I used for Sprite for Life though, I think I got it somewhere in the land of folders.

well, i found the spritesheet, but its gonna take a LOT of editing...
feh. the only decent one i can find is the one i tried using in the first place, and it wasn't what i was looking for at all. so i just gotta edit it myself, then? dang, that's rough-i have NO art skills whatsoever, so im gonna haveta rely on luck and prayer that it comes out okay...unless...

is there some place i can post it where i can get someone who actually HAS some skill to edit it for me?

or could you go ahead and post that sprite, so i can see if it is at least an improvement?
(never knew getting resources could be so cumbersome...)

I found mine, and it didn't have any walking poses. Just the facing left, right, up, down.

But it was more or less just the pikachu sprite from Pokemon mystery dungeon.
But post the battlechar you found. I MIGHT(as in; might) find some time to just spice it up.

well, here it is. if i get some free time, ill try to edit it myself, but im not very confident...

if you can help, or know somewhere i can go to get help, please let me know.

thank you very much for your patience.

Are you wanting that pickachu in a battlechar?

kinda. first i want it edited so that the pika has a more serious tone (like getting rid of that ridiculous grin for one thing) then i want a battlechara of the edited version. the specs are further up the thread.

if you can help, id be very thankful.

okay, THAT didn't work. I'll have to re-download the spritesheet and try again (and this time keep a backup)

Ok, I'm willing to make an attempt at screwing around with sprites to make something decent that isn't that old SSBM sheet.

When you mention his attack pose, do you want him to punch like the RTP heroes?
And another good question: how large do you want it? To match the size of an RTP hero or rather be at knee-hieght?

I was thinking about using the Diamond/Pearl sprite as base at least unless you want something else.

Thanks!
A punching animation works, so it can use the default weapon animations. Ill use a skill for the electric attacks.
Not quite as tall as the standard battlecharas. a little smaller, but not so much that the weap ani's wont fit anymore.

Thank you very much! I'll be sure to credit you well when i start the big kahuna.

Ok, seriously... I'm starting to doubt my own abilities to stick to a request...

Just choose the one you prefer. The first one is more or less a sprite-sized battler made with mystery dungeon sprites.
The middle one is the RTP Male thief... But pikachu.
And the third one is the D/P pikachu sprite... But it's larger and wider than the RTP cahracters.
Lastly is Ganachu I made for Sprite for Life... I just figured I should put him there since the picture couldn't get much weirder anyway.

of those three, i gotta go with the first one. it would work best, i think. it may not fit with the weap ani's but i have a contingency set up for that (kinda figured it'd be the case)

thanks purp, youve been a great help.

Do you want it larger or taller or something?
And for the attacking animation; I'll probably make it jump so it reaches the same height.

hmmm...

the size is okay as is. if it were any bigger, the proportion would be off, and i really dont think smaller is a good idea...

thanks.

Very well, it's done.
Haven't tried it in the maker 'cuz I'm lazy but it should work.

edit. Yeah. it worked. He bounces forward and does a jump attack against the enemy as predicted. RTP weapons look fine.
You have three choices for idle stance though. I couldn't decide.
You can either have the animation on idle, right hand attack or the victory pose. All three are pretty simple but still.
