I was thinking about making a composition contest on charas, after getting permission from the staff of course, but I'm not sure how well it would be received. It would be similar to the midi contest I guess, except you create your own melody/etc. Also, its not like the midi contest completely, similar, but more of just a song in general. There would be some rules of course. Plus, all entries would be converted into Mp3 format before judging. (You could do it yourself or I could do it.)
Also, the song could be anything from an instrumental rock ballad to a soft flute trio.
Well? ???
-
People barely have a mic and soundgasm failed.
I might not be the one to speak but I know that i would be able to contribute with anything at least.
-
No, its not quite anything like that really. Its closer to the Midi contest than actually recording a song. Actually one of my rules is that there are no voices. I could post the general guidelines I have typed up.
"For this contest you may enter up to (2) compositions/songs to be judged by (5) judges. The songs must be anywhere from one minute in length to 7 minutes. No more, no less. The entry must be in Mp3 form. If you cannot change it, I will for you. The instrumentation can be traditional or electronic. It does not matter. If possible, submit a score of your work. Pieces cannot loop. The 2nd will be based off a given theme. You do NOT have to enter two songs."
I'm thinking that it will be on an individual basis. (I was considering two people could enter one song, but that would be even less entries)
Also, I'm not exactly sure which staff person to pm. o.o
-
That just sounds awesome. I could crank out a tune or two. Maybe, I mean, my recording equipment sucks.
-
Sounds good...I suck though.
-
Okay. Is everyone clear on the no voices part right?
You can use recording equipment. I will allow that. Music software is the suggested thing however
I guess it sounds like this might work out. >.<
This are the rules and stuff I typed up.
[spoiler]Charasian Composition Contest
For this contest you may enter up to (2) compositions to be judged by (5) judges. The compositions must be anywhere from one minute in length to 7 minutes. No more, no less. The entry must be in Mp3 form. If you cannot change it, I will for you. The instrumentation can be traditional or electronic. It does not matter. If possible, submit a score of your work. Pieces cannot loop. The 2nd will be based off a given theme. You do NOT have to enter two songs.
Other Details:
- The song must have a theme
- The song should not have real voices. Midi voices are okay. (Ex. Choir Ahs, etc.)
- The 1st song can be of any theme
- Both songs may be of any style
- Unless using electronic sounds, the instrument parts should be playable.
- You may use recording equipment and real instruments as well as midi ones.
The 2nd song however will have to follow this theme:
The Haunted Mansion
The mansion stood like a tower of old memories. No one lived there anymore. It was a popular place to be on Halloween.
The 2nd piece will be judged the same as the 1st, the exception being that there is an added category of Theme which will ask the judge if the entry matches the given theme. It will be worth 5 points making the point total 50 points. For the 2nd song, a small paragraph should be included to let the judge know what’s going on as they listen. You do not have to given specific times. (Ex. At 4:30 they are running for their life). You can create any kind of background story for the mansion, as long as the haunted mansion theme is used.

I may consider taking part.

*beats X in the head with a hammer*
No I won't forget this one. >.< I didn't forget, I just didn't have time, but band is over now, so my time has jumped 1.0 x 10^23 % more.
Okay, so is this good with the moddies then?
-
I may do this :3
-
I am in!!!
-
Okay. This has definitely been more widely accepted than I previously thought it would be. o.o
-
I am so in.
I do stuff like this in my free time anyway.
...Bring it. >:D
-
I'm in too :)
-
I'll think about it for a second...
I'm not sure I'm ready to really compose much right now, plus I'm busy as all hell
-
As was I for a few says there. Some theater students (including myself) went to a theater conference and perform a play in front of many other theater students as well as watch other schools and stuff. It was a state conference. And was very fun. Sucks I had to leave early though...
ANYWAY.
This is looking better and better. I'll eventually get around to asking a moderator is I'm allowed.
-
Haha, yes this will be awesome. I'm gonna go get an early start! *remains sitting*
-
Soooooooo. When does it start?
-
I want to know:
- When it starts
- How long we get
- Special conditions
-
I'm in, but you've got to understand that real life tends to take over and make me forget about charas for days on end so I'm not exactly a reliable contestant. It's a great idea though.
-
AS I'm not very reliable either, so..
I'm gonna go make the topic now.
And then the contest will be over on January 4th.
