I have music resources.
But they're, you know, unsavory.
I'm such a bad person.
My favorites (in English) are Nightwish, The Birthday Massacre, and Sirenia.
But mostly I listen to Japanese, with bits of German and other weirdness, so also check out: Mucc, Nightmare, Abingdon Boys School, E Nomine, and Megaherz.
DO IT. NAO.

Limewire. Period.

Limewire is useless compared to torrents. Discographies in mere minutes ftw.

Thanks! That saved me some fingerwork...
-
For the moment a band called Lamb of God is my religion, their DVDs are my bibles. Also torrents for everything here, theres no better way than torrents to bag yourself tons of music.
-
yeah but who would use torrents for music?
Me
Got the Tool discography and Apocalyptica and Korn and...well, damn near everything from torrents
If you DO use torrents, check out USniff.com
It's a pretty good search engine
-
I somehow forgot High and Mighty Color and Yui.
I didn't think Nana Kitade quite fit his tastes, though.
I'm ashamed to admit it, but I often rock out to KOTOKO and Ayumi Hamasaki.

Yes.
-
yeah but who would use torrents for music?
I do, almost primarily (next to youtube, for single songs).
-
Tool, Opeth, Rammstein, Mastodon. Theres a few for ya. I saw that you liked SOAD so i am assuming you have remotely similar tastes to me. Also try out the SOAD solo projects (Scars on Broadway, and Serj's solo stuff)
-
Can't personally endorse Scars on Broadway. I'm still convinced that Serj was the band, and that while he can survive well on his own, the others can't.
-
everything in this thread so far is crap except mastodon
-
yeah but who would use torrents for music?
Pretty dumb choice to NOT use torrents for music. It's fast and easy and will get entire albums instead of those two or three songs you know. WAY better.
-
Gee, sure is trendy in here.
Iron Butterfly, King Crimson, Emerson Lake and Palmer and Flower Travellin' Band. Do it.
-
Say, here's something:
http://www.imeem.com
Search for a song or artist you like, you can listen to it. Then, it'll point you to songs that are most commonly grouped with it in a playlist. Or you could just use Pandora or Last.fm and have them force feed it to you.
-
I've been rawking The Sound of Madness (CD) by Shinedown every morning in the shower for about a month. I would suggest that, if not, then at least DL Devour and The Sound of Madness MP3.
-
everything in this thread so far is crap except mastodon
Such a helpful input. I'm serious.
-
Powerglove.
-
Mastodon is sex for the ears.
-
Let's stop hiding it and just rename this the "what's your favourite band" thread
-

Need to change my inputs then, I named ALL bands I liked of certain countries.
-
Let's stop hiding it and just rename this the "what's your favourite band" thread
I agree. that'd be fine with me. Thanks everyone this realy helped alot. By the way, had a listin to Mastadon, and it's now on my favorite bands of all time.
-
Opeth, Agalloch, Mastodon, Evergrey, Bloodbath, Gojira, Iced Earth. To name but a few.
-
Nightwish, Rammstein, and Apocalyptica come to mind. Within Temptation is pretty good, too. I've been listening to a bit of Slayer from time to time, now. They're good, but would be better if the lead singer would stop wailing like he's been shot for any more than five minutes.
-
Do solo artists count? Cause if so, best ever = Jason Becker.
Bandwise, let's see...
(NPO) Dream Theater, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Dio, Cacophony, The Doors
Some weird one (for me): Blümchen, Flobots (well pretty much just that one song.... YOU KNOW), Squeeze, Hall and Oats, Fred Astaire
Just a short list,,, mostly what I've been listening too recently.
-
Mucc, Abingdon Boys School, Nightwish.
And HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR.
-
Opeth, Rammstein, System of a Down, Mastodon and Tool to name a few.
-
They're good, but would be better if the lead singer would stop wailing like he's been shot for any more than five minutes.
That never bothered me. What irks me is that all the songs I've heard by them have a part where they just throw music out the window and welcome loud, fast, violent noise into the track. To be fair, I don't listen to them very much, but I've heard enough where I don't think it's just coincidence.
-
Mars-fuckin-Volta anyone?
-
Funker Vogt, Flogging Molly.
-
Too many bands are my favourites. Can't choose.
I can name several bands of the same genre though that I like:
Metalcore-ish group:
All That Remains; As I Lay Dying; Atreyu; Avenged Sevenfold; The Bled; Bullet for my Valentine; Children of Bodom; Funeral for a Friend; Hawthorne Heights; My Chemical Romance; Scary Kids Scaring Kids; Silverstein;
Hard Rock-ish group:
Breaking Benjamin; Three Days Grace; Theory of a Deadman; Hinder; Drowning Pool; Disturbed; Silent Drive; Red; Rammstein; Mudvayne; Rob Zombie; White Zombie; Seether; Puddle of Mudd
Punk-ish group:
The Offspring; Donots; Midtown; The Used; The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus; Mindless Self Indulgence (sounds punk to me); Depswa; Billy Talent; Yellowcard; Story of the Year; The Rasmus; Relient K
Metal-ish group (all kinds of metal):
Iron Maiden; Metallica; God Dethroned; Symphony X; Eluveitie; Apocalyptica; Dream Theatre; System of a Down; Slipknot; Van Halen; Vandenberg; Entombed; Black Label Society; Hypocrisy; Death; God Dethroned
Other artists:
Red Hot Chilli Peppers; Tenacious D; Serj Tankian; Orgy; Tool
ENOUGH input from me. From all the bands I listed, surely you'll love one or even more. Try some out.
-
I'm one of these rare people who hates downloading music. I just don't. If I want something I buy the CD.
As for my favourite band, it's radiohead. Other bands I love at the moment are Rolo Tomassi, Metallica, and Opeth.
-
Mars-fuckin-Volta anyone?
Yeah, they're awesome! I heard Televators way back in the day and fell in love.

Hard Rock-ish group:
Breaking Benjamin; Three Days Grace; Theory of a Deadman; Drowning Pool; Disturbed; Mudvayne
Heard songs from all of them and I love every one, but then again I love hard rock. I also listined to Tool like you recomended. They have a nice sound, but the videos creep me out.
-
Tool videos are awesome, man. :3 No other mainstream videos like em.
-
Heard songs from all of them and I love every one, but then again I love hard rock.
Not a big fan of any of them except Mudvayne and and Disturbed. I used to be a big Mudvayne fan. I remember when LD 50 came out I was like 10 years old and I loved it. By the time Lost and Found came out I thought they had lost their edge. Disturbed it was the other way around... I didn't like them at all till 10000 Fists because the guitar solos were amazing.
Also... anyone like Serj Tenkian's solo project? I think he's better solo than with System personally...
-
You're the first person that I've heard say that, and I agree. I'm pretty sure that Serj was the band, and that without him, System wouldn't have gotten all that much attention. I attribute it to his Godvoice.
-

Dude. I checked out Pelican.
I LOVE IT.

You know what? Black Tide, Orgy. If you don't already love those two groups, then you need to learn immediately.
Or, you know, die choking on your entrails as your body forces them up in an ill-fated attempt at vomiting.
Oh, by the way, just in case it wasn't already obvious, be careful when searching for Orgy. It's easy to get side-tracked.
-
Dude. I checked out Pelican.
I LOVE IT.
Thats because pelican is balls out and tech as hell. Its all about teh tech
-
Also... anyone like Serj Tenkian's solo project? I think he's better solo than with System personally...
Nah, nah. The way I see it both 'projects' that came out of SOAD are kinda shitty. Broadway sounds killer, musically, but his lyrics and singing are **** without Serj to get him in line. Then Serj's solo sounds great in lyrics and vocals, but his music is just... WAY simpler than SOAD. His playing is like a run down, half *** version of the other guys in System. They frickin' need each other...
That's how I see it, at least.
Oh and Pelican, along with anything that gets labeled 'Post-Metal,' is loved by me. Isis, Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Pelican, yeah. Pelican is good when I want post metal, without the gouging angst yelling.
-
I like Serj's solo project. Haven't had the chance to give Scars on Broadway a try though.
-
Its not really a Band, But they do the music and feature people to do the singing. They even did a song with Sarah Mclachlan entitled Silence.
Of coarse she got all the fame for it.
They = Delirium
