So the tough part came in your other project, and you would like to do ALL THE EASY FUN stuff in a different project?
One thing at a time man. Nobody cares about the prequel if youre still working on the original.

Im doing the first game then the second game.(which is Neolith.)
So back off.

Post by: HobomasterXXX on December 27, 2008, 02:55:35 AM
Its not a prequel if you make it first. If you make it first its just the first game. A prequel is made after the game it precedes.

it pains me to say this

you have some amount of learned skill and talent with 2k3

because of the lack of graphical limitations, and the abundance of easy to import scripts, i think a project like this would be better off done with XP. I would hate you less, because you could make your game, import a couple of key scripts, and then proceed with events, while using some of the multitudes of survival horror type autotiles and chipsets out there for XP. Im not expecting you to heed my pearls of wisdom dripping from your mothers plump yet succulent collarbone but i would appreciate it if you took it into consideration.

Also: you are a fag

That's going in my sig.

Hmm...I'll see how it fares out with Rm2K3 first then, when I finish a demo of sorts I'll look in to it.

The screens look cool. The title real nice too, simple, but nice. What is the fourth screen though?

And as for the story, there's not too much there, and it's very unoriginal to start off, but that can always change.
Title: Re: Dourne - Outbreak
Post by: ThexXtremeXx on December 27, 2008, 05:15:52 PM
Okay, let me see what I can do...

The fourth screen is when the lights go out, and you have to find a way out of the office and
down to the bas-

I said too much.

EDIT: I've changed the story completely; I figured that it's better to change the game while it was still in it's early stages.

if youre using XP, Id suggest joining up at creation asylum
Their Autotile selection is great for scary games. Theres like 3 pages straight of blood statined floors.
Also, has some of the best english speaking RGSS scripters. But in all fairness they tend to frequent all of the big XP and VX forums.
Check it out, at least to familiarize yourself with the better scripts.

Im assuming you dont want to pay for the legal version of XP, so you may run into a compatibility issue here or there. But its nothing that cant be
circumvented with some clever dll placement.

Also, your dead granny's eye socket was suprisingly moist

Title: Re: Neolith - Outbreak

It's not really the chipset, its more of the fact that the first few towns are underground; and electricity
isn't very common.

Plus, dark games = atmosphere

If you dont have alot of experience with custom battle systems or coding I would not recommend ABS for your first game.

I know how to code it, i just can't sprite it...

So I might do a DBS version and a ABS version when I learn to sprite better.

I like running around with a gun and shotting things
(which in a way Aftermath annoys me)

Sadly I cant sprite, so that version may not come out for a while.

I could however just assemble a team, but I'm too damn lazy to.

I understand and see your point of wanting mobility and shooting things.  Aftermath thankfully is not just about guns. It gives the player a choice to be whatever he wants.  Backstabbing Rogue, Shaman, Seer, Gunman, Axe Murderer etc.  Also, I made it where guns play a role of brute force with hardly any crit and melee weapons have tons of crit so they deal good burst on occasion.  I really made the weapons different from each other.  I'm also a fan of turn based side scroller final fantasy games.  I thought it would be neat to make a game with all the things I mentioned above with a final fantasy system THAT WORKS.

Aftermath =  Final Fantasy, Shadowrun, Fallout rolled into one game.

Well putting an ABS into the game is really my choice so,
I doubt that'll change my mind.

BUT!

In the demo, if you complete the driver's test without crashing, or
running over any cones, I'll give the person the code to enter the Horde room.
(Which is the only place in the game where you can use the abs. Besides the Gang
Fortresses.(Which aren't even in the demo.))

If youre going to do an abs, have it in from the start. Its a lot harder to impement a major system when your already a good way into the game than when you just started.

I'm pretty sure that's what he meant. By changing the overall lighting you darken both the characters AND the backgrounds, whereas if you made the characters and the background contrast it would look nicer.

Well I haven't really read anything on the count of me being so lazy right now.  But from what I can see from the screenshots the game looks pretty good.  I don't understand the whole dark theme but I'm pretty sure it's because I haven't read any of the story or background yet.  I'll be sure to do that soon.  I'll let you know what I think about the story once I read it through.

I like the look of this so far, exelent work, but I think you'd better have a way to ilumanate certain objects, maybe a flashligh system? I'm just saying this, because the dark grafics plus chip sets make hard to see certain things.
