Title: A month of work
Post by: Dominicy on December 27, 2008, 01:20:30 AM
Like the ominous title that doesn't exactly say much ALMOST implies, I lost about a month of work thanks to a blue-screen error that ultimately made me reformat my computer.  This includes a dungeon and an entire town, as well as about a fifth of the total relationship optional quest dialogues.  ALL of the spell animations I did are gone, character animations, character sets, pictures, events and all else.  It's almost enough to make me give up if I didn't know I had already given out the vast majority of the graphics I did myself to some of you.  Any one who has the completed (or even partially completed) character sets I gave them, please host them here.  That includes your battle set, Prpl, the one you recently did for me.  If you still happen to have it saved, and if you come across this thread, please give it to me.

Thanks for any sympathy you have to offer, but let's try not to make this into an ego-stroking thread.  Thanks and, with all due respect, unless you have something to give me from the game, leave me be on MSN.

EDIT: I'm trying to get in contact with someone at Box.net to see if the file can be recovered or not.  Wish me luck, because I have the feeling I'll need it...

EDIT 2: I think I figured it out.  Before I reformatted my computer I did a system recovery.  I'm sure most of us know how erratic that is.  I once lost my saved games for a game I hadn't played in over a year or so doing one.  What I'm guessing is the system put me back to a time before I did any of that, and then, not realizing that, I overwrote my old copy of the game on Box.net.  The only problem now is that you need a premium account to download older versions of an over-written file.  Here's to hoping that they're feeling generous or understanding, in my case.  It's an unrealistic expectation, but maybe.

That sucks dude. You didn't back it up on some other sort of media, like flashcard, CD?

I had a scare just last week, my computer froze and would crash upon start up or running any big programs. I hadn't updated any of my back-ups in a while. Luckily I kept restarting the computer and running computer checks and things seemed to fix themself.

That's a shitty situation. I'd probably quit myself in all honestly if I lost a good amount of work. Or atleast take a break and get back to it later. =\

Truth be told I update my backups on a weekly or so basis.  This makes me think I should start making back ups of my back ups, though.  I'm not too upset about it any more since I know everything can be recovered, And I got a reply from Box.net a few minutes ago.  All I can do now is cross my fingers and hope they decide they like me.  Well, and if they decide not to, just stay positive about having to pretty much start over.
