What is with everything about 12/21/12? Everyone I know seems to know something about it. And I don't. Can someone tell me what it's about?
-
The Mayan Calender stops there, and so some people think that the world will end on 2012.
Because a civilisation that didn't know how to make cement, who thought human sacrifice was necessary to grow crops and who lacked the foresight to stop their own destruction are going to know when the world ends.
Give me a fucken break.
-
That about sums it up
Mayan Calender ends, and people think the worlds going to a-splode
-
I'd rather have 2112.
-
Actually, the Mayan calender starts over, because part of their culture was the view of time as a cycle, since everything really does run in a cycle. 12/21/2012 is the day that this solar system aligns with the supermassive black hole in the center of the galaxy, which in the Mayan civilization was thought to open a temporary gateway to the underworld.
In short, 12/21/12 is, according to the Mayans, the end of the world as we know it, the beginning of a new cycle, not the end of all mankind.
-
If you're gonna be worried about any date, I'd be worried about 2029 and 2036. I mean, at least there's SOME credibility in those dates.
-
Come to think of it, I am a little concerned about 20XX...
-
What would be funny is that the new president will be elected on 29/12/2012 (YES THE EUROPEAN WAY BECAUSE IT'S COOLER!!)
-

Truth. Mayan calendar ends, but it's cyclical unlike our Gregorian calendar which is linear. The cycles last about 400 years. All that happens is that a new one starts.
-
Its when the governments in power (Wal-Mart, Exxon, ect) plan to kill off 80% of the worlds population.

"Aligns" with the supermassive black hole? That's like saying Earth is "aligned" with the sun. It is, but without a third point of reference, that's meaningless. If you're only using two points then they're always "aligned."
Also, supermassive black hole by muse just came up on my random music player. I must now visit the bathroom to clean the **** out of my pants.

Just Watch I am legend. It knows all.

1 in 45,00 chance means it has a low chance...right? RIGHT?
Its when the governments in power (Wal-Mart, Exxon, ect) plan to kill off 80% of the worlds population.
..... How much is 80 percent?
Come to think of it, I am a little concerned about 20XX...
Doesn't that mean the 21st century? Y2K?
In short, 12/21/12 is, according to the Mayans, the end of the world as we know it, the beginning of a new cycle, not the end of all mankind.
It's the end of the world, as we know it...

I seem to recall something about crystal skulls involved with that date, but I can't remember exactly.
-

New Indiana Jones movie=end of the world? ZOMFG.
-
It wasn't from Indy IV, but from some documentary I watched about it. Something about the thirteen "original" crystal skulls being returned somewhere to prevent the world from ending, or something. Can't remember exactly.
-
End of the world stuff is always crap. The world just doesn't end out of the blue. And calenders have to end somewhere, they couldn't let it continue for ever.
-
Nothing to do with the date.
"In a post-apocalyptic 2012, U.S. Army virologist, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Neville (Will Smith) is left as the last healthy human in New York City and possibly the entire world...."

I know, but the movie takes place after the start of the appocalyptic event (the evacuation of NYC.) Meaning, I am legend has nothing to do with the actual date. As far as I remember.

I am suddenly reminded that my friends and I have agreed on a new theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APPcL_qnpbg)song for that particular film.

Doesn't that mean it has everything to do with the date... ? 0_o
-
What he's saying is that the movie takes place 3 years after nearly everyone in the world dies, in 2012; implying that everyone died in (gasp) 2009! we're doomed!
-
The world is ending already, face it =D
And I mean it... All this global warming stuff, creepy endless civil wars around the world, natural disasters, end of oil, money and food problem... I don't think the world will end in 2012, but I do think that it'll be breaking into pieces on that year.
Come on, Maya people were pretty accurate, if we consider the age that they lived... Probably they'll be wrong by 10 or 15 years, max.
Oh, and forget. It's just the human race that is doomed, not the world. Earth will recover itself after humans stop destroying it... Or maybe not. Who knows. Let's just live what we still have.
-

Were they? Were they accurate? Do you know what Mayans did when a ruler fell very ill? They killed a dude to appease the gods. I mean you'd be hard pressed to find a doctor these days who'd recommend that form of treatment.
-

Scientists know. Apparently, without humans, the world would basically fall apart. Do you know how big of an impact we have on everything? Not only do we **** everything up, but we also keep everything in check.
Take that element away.
CHAOS. FUCKING CHAOS.

Why would everything fall apart? We're at the top of the food chain and there aren't really any species that are dependant on us.

Dogs.
*nods*

Dogs.
*nods*
Yes, very true. A lot of domestic species would probably die out. Farm animals are practically walking meals.

Bed bugs.
*nods*
That reminds, did that nasty kid ever get rid of them?
-
xXtreme?
Do you actually care?
Anyway, people are gonna freak out and take a spaceship to ars and live there or something. Maybe humanity will adapt to use no air?
-
Do you actually care?
No. Just want to know if he's still a dirty little fuck.
-
We could leave the planet, if those morons at NASA could fiugre out how to make an actual starship that can leave our solar system. Ofcourse even if we do escape the solar system, our Galaxy is on a colision course with the Andromeda Galaxy. And if that doesn't kill us eventualy the Super Masive Blackhole at the center of galaxy will eventualy absorb another one and become so big that it devours everything. In the words of C-3PO "We're doomed, we're doomed!!"
-
I wont live to see any of this world ending crap, so im fine. (Take THAT decendants)
-
No. Just want to know if he's still a dirty little fuck.
Yes I did.
I did get rid of them.
IN YOUR MOUTH!
-
Yes I did.
I did get rid of them.
IN YOUR MOUTH!
I believe the expresion is: "In your face." But the imagery is simular.
-
Pretty similar
Just a bit stranger

You dirty little bastard, you are a bit less dirty now.

Geez, I'm not talking about their freakin' human sacrifice goddamit, just about the doom year they've... foresaw?

Thinking better... You got a point. Makes a hell lot of sense.
So, what do you guys plan to do or achieve before dying miserably along with your other human companions?
-
Geez, I'm not talking about their freakin' human sacrifice goddamit, just about the doom year they've... foresaw?
But you claimed that they were accurate for their time. You can't use a prediction that's yet to come true to provide evidence for itself coming true.
-

You've been watching too much Star Wars. It would be a heck of a task to leave this solar system, considering it would take much longer than the average human lifespan and cosmic radiation would most likely kill or sterilise everything on board. And anyway, where would we go? It wouldn't be feasible to take enough resources to terraform a hazardous planet as well as transport enough humans to repopulate the new planet, so we'd have to find one with conditions close enough to Earth, and what are the chances of that?
-
The New Earth (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-450467/Found-20-light-years-away-New-Earth.html) ?

120 trillion miles is still quite a distance. What's so bad about our planet? Can't we just stop being jackasses and work towards NOT destroying ourselves? We can start with blowing up the middle east. There goes half your threat of Nuclear Holocaust right there. (obviously jk)

And while we're at it, blow up the United States. BAM. 98% of the nuclear threat gone.

I tought mayan calendar ended in 2013, not 2012.

The resulting explosion of all of the Nuclear Bombs going away would destroy the planet, i think
I tought mayan calendar ended in 2013, not 2012.
Nope, it ends in 2012
Retards that try to be clever place it at December 21st 2012, however
Which is pretty close
-

More like 40% (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/182/387073098_bd6f150b4e_o.jpg). But regardless, the U.S. does have a ton of nukes.
-
And I can't help but wonder why we have so many. Russia, you need to chill, too.
Cold War is ****ing over.
-
It's not over until some country's ****ing dead.
And you know it.
-
Bomb the US. It's further away from where I live so less harm to be done.
-
Bomb your ***, ****er.
I ****ing live here.
-
Okay, sorry for saying some obscene things about bombing middle easterners (Arggh, irony!!!!!!) Let's not bomb anyone. Let's just disarm. *hopes irrationally*

I say, we should get ourselves some aliens to have as common enemies.

That's the lamest plot twist ever.

I was hoping for his damned bankai. Stupid Zaraki.

Holding an alien with two hands.
Lamest (and quite possibly gayest) plot twist ever. We can all agree on that.
-
I say, we should get ourselves some aliens to have as common enemies.
I love you.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure no-one believes the end of the world date theories now. There's been so many of them that have passed already, for one thing. But if the world is going to end in some sort of cataclysm, I'd rather it be in my lifetime. I want to know what it's like.
-
It's like he pain of knowing everything you and your friends worked for until that moment had no meaning at all, that you are going to disappear and no one will be there to even remember you. If you're lucky you'll die first, if not you'll suffer seeing your home, family and friends disappearing one by one until in the end you feel it's just not worth anymore, and you start to wish you were dead already, but you don't really have the courage to end it yourself because of that small and pityful hope which ties you to life, and as such, after all if done, youll find yourself in a desert wasteland, covered with the mortal coil of those you loved, and shall live your last weeks alone and pityfully, searching for anything still good to eat. You'll end up having to eat the flesh out of those who were near you, and even so it's only a matter of time before even that is gone. All your faith by this point will have been sucked away from you, so you don't believe in the afterlife anymore, the mere thought of death coming your way will fill you with fear, but there is no one nearby to confort you in that moment. You'll eventually go mad of loneliness and shall die a horrible, painful and slow death due to hunger or radiation.
=D

Feels good man.

I'm dying due radiation right now.

Isn't that?...

Dude we're all gonna get awesome super powers and switch to using like 24 strands of our DNA which will make us immune to cancer, STDs etc. Has something to do with electromagnetism adapting our bodies as we pass through the galactic equator. Be more optimistic kaids. :P

No. Won't happen to me. I refuse to die. Radiation, hunger. I don't care. I refuse to die.
-
so you don't believe in the afterlife anymore
There's the thing; I don't believe there's anything after death so I want to have as many experiences before the end as possible. I reckon the apocalypse would be a pretty good way to go, even if it is like you've prophesised :p

True. If there is nothing for us afterwards, then either we need to life forever or see it all. That's why I decide to not die. I will find the fountain of youth, the key to immortality. I WILL! *nods*
-
I aways wondered why'd you pick a Phoenix as your avatar. Now everything makes sense.

Alternatively said electromagnetism messes with the charges on your DNA's amino acids, causing you to die horribly of mutations and such within the hour.
Curses.

You know, if you keep telling yourself that you will not die, you wont die. Its that simple. It works, believe me.
Problem is when you die you are unable to tell yourself you wond die, thus you'll die.
