Resident Evil 5 comes out next week. Omfg!? I can't wait. I ****ing loved the demo, I will be getting the 360 one cause I don't like the controls for the ps3 and I dun have a bluetooth for the ps3.
But omg... I love Sheva =<
-
I haven't followed the RE series much... Or, at all, for that matter. From what I have heard, the first two were the best. I've only played Umbrella Chronicles, and 4 for Wii.
That having been said, 5 looks kick ***.
-
From what I have heard, the first two were the best.
More like from what you've heard from purists.
The stats beg to differ (http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html)
Yeah, so, RE4 was totally revolutionary and awesome and blah blah blah, but/and this one looks like more of the same. Which is not bad, but... meh.
-
I only had any exposure to RE4. From what I can tell, the older games were really silly.
"You were almost a Jill Sandwich!"
Anyways, I will need to see what RE5 is like. And then try and get an XBox360 or something.
-
I've only had exposure to the movies
Which I assume are very different then the games
So...yeah

That's what I thought. Then the annoying ugly castellan midget zombie came into RE4. Now I don't know what to think.
-
Resident Evil 4 playing style was fun, but I'd still prefer the old style. It's just more Resident Evil that way, a feeling that lacked with me with 4. If they changed the name Leon to Jack and Resident Evil to Jack's Dreamworld, no one would have connected the dots to Resident Evil.
Still, this said, Resident Evil 4 was a fun game and I am looking forward to part 5. Just not getting it any time soon. Gonna wait for a discount and try to get older Resident Evils before that. Still missing 2, 3, 0 and a few others from my collection.
-
RE4 was the only one in the series that I liked (and Umbrella Chronicles, but that's because I'm a big fan of lightgun shooters), but that's because they dropped a bunch of the survival horror themes in favor of a more action-oriented approach. The survival horror parts felt so very tedious and unnecessarily stress-inducing, and to me, they just weren't scary. I'm not easily scared by a piece of fiction, though, so there you go.
I'm looking forward to RE5 (I have a friend who I plan on playing co-op with), but I haven't gotten to play the demo, since my Xbox Live account is locked as a child account for some godawful reason. No M rated downloads that don't cost moneys for me (seriously, there was a ****ing cock flying in front of my face for the GTA4 expansion. Why can I get that, but not something with a bit of blood and zombification?).
-
PROTIP: RE4 had the exact same controls as every other one, the camera view was just moved to behind the shoulder.
-
Technically correct, but I hope you're not trying to suggest that that's all there is to it.
Precise aiming (with camera zooming), more plentiful ammo, more focus on combat rather than exploration/puzzles, etc.
-
PROTIP: RE4 had the exact same controls as every other one, the camera view was just moved to behind the shoulder.
And it makes a world of a difference. Confusion due to a locked camera goes out the window (well, I can't say I ever got confused, but it wasn't very comfortable).
-
The first RE games are classic.
RE1's intro movie with real actors.
Aim up, forward and down.
Turning around takes 3 years.
Hunters can actually spam you to death if given the opportunity.
Odd hit boxes on the character and enemies.(Like in Code veronica where most bosses took damage 3-5 times by the dagger because it's a sweep).
Albert wesker.
Really, the best parts about RE is the story and the structure that everything is following.
But RE4 actually did follow that story, somewhere. Must say that it almost feels like some fanfic or something with Leon being the bodyguard of the president's daughter and stuff.
But I'm looking forward to RE5 bigtime, looks great(although more or less like RE4 with Africans) and it will probably live up to my expectations.
I'll get it for PS3 though, don't got a schmex box.

Precise aiming is a great addition, as is the amount of ammo you can find. I popped in the Resident Evil 1 remake in my Gamecube and I was as the second zombie when I found myself ammoless. The bigger focus on combat does feels nice, but I always loved the exploration and puzzles. The nightmares I endured as a kid because of those doors. Those bloody doors where you never knew what was behind it.

During my short play on the Gamecube replay, I did found myself confused because of the locked camera. I like it, but it's a pain when the zombie is around the corner and I can't see there or when he's offscreen because the camera doesn't show that part of the hallway. I got killed because of that damned camera. I found it better in the later addition cause I can't recall having that problem in Code Veronica or Outbreak File #1.
-
I can't stand the controls in the earlier resident evil games. I tried to play them like 10 times but in the end it's the controls that drives me away. Thus they should remake them with RE4 control.

The nightmares I endured as a kid because of those doors. Those bloody doors where you never knew what was behind it.
I still remember going into that one room, and while it's loading the little transition animation of the door opening plays, and suddenly three zombies come through it.
It was so unexpected it was awesome.

Hell yeah. Those freaking doors. Shame they don't have them in 4, or at least I can't recall it.

Didn't they include that new control scheme I heard so much about? Or did Capcom get afraid that they were changing the formula too much?

That's why they made Umbrella chronicles for the Wii.
People can't be arsed to actually play through the nostalgic awesome games of RE1,RE2,RE3,RECV.
So they took the important parts from those games(not RE2 though) and put it into a game with some additional thingies like the russian factory.

Just to update this(and double post).
I got Re5 today and I love it.
Game-bound inventory is kinda sucky. It's like Umbrella chronicles in that manner.
There are no save files. You just choose what chapter you want to play from. And you do. Because the money and items/weapons are bound to the game either way and not save files.
Buying those extras are fun and hard.
Co-op is amazing. All you need to do is to make P2 press START at the start of a chapter and he'll be playing Sheva. I haven't tried it online yet, something odd with our network.
Something that pisses me off though is Sheva's AI.
I mean. Ashley(RE4) and Cherry(RE2) where meatshields, hiding meatshields.
People like Barry(RE1) and Billy(RE0) where good. They could shoot through you and you could at least decide what equipment billy should use in RE0.
But Sheva is like a retard in Re5.When you engage battle she will occasionally stand behind you and start shooting the enemies in front of you. But the bullets will stop as they hit Chris' back. And she just keep firing. And you can't stop her. She'll empty her gun in no time at all. And once she's empty she'll start using any other weapon she got. And in worst cases she will go rambo with the combat knife.
She can sometimes run straight/jump down into the enemies instead of standing on safe ledges or behind cover
where I'm standing.
And if she's not standing behind you and emptying her macinegun at you: she'll run in front of you and block your vision and ability to shoot those charging zombies. I'm glad she keeps away when using a rifle though.
I haven't beat the game yet because my pal I'm playing Coop with is kinda busy this week. But I will prboably beat it soon enough.
-
I got it like 3 days before it came out.
My complaints?
The fact that you can only carry 9 things is a pain!
The puzzles were a joke.
During some cutscenes, you have to press certain buttons to dodge attacks.
Sheva is hotter then Jill.
Wesker is annoying as hell.
6 chapters where not enough.
How the hell do you go from the mashlands to a factorary?!
I can't see my figurines =<
Sheva is always using my herbs! Light the herbs!
Praises?
I liked the fact that even though it's on easy, it's still hard.
Co-op is fun, but I prefer it online due to hating the split screens.
The achievement points are pretty fun to get.
Sheva has a longbow!
Sheva is actually good help, and Prpl you can make her stop. Press the red button to change her status to either attack or cover. She's pretty damn useful.
The "save the cheerleader!" part makes me laugh cause it's so damn random. White girl in Africa XD
And Mercenaries is pretty fun.
For those who want to add me, Middeth for both ps3 & Xbox360.
Razor, I added j00!
-
I actually found a pretty good thing.
When starting the game you can choose if your partner should "react to your attacks". If you choose "NO" your bullets and her bullets will go right through.
Haven't tried the kicks yet but I'm glad my buddy isn't kicking me and the majini down into the crowd again. That was pretty tense...
The puzzles are just like in RE4. Find the door, find the key, return to door with key, fight some hordes of civilians, enter door.
Action cutscenes are good. You need to keep on your toes. That's what these games are about; not relaxing.
The marshland part was too short. Funnier enemies with the type 3 plagas.
As for the figurines... What's the problem? I just enter the menu for them and then click the accept button and I can turn and rotate them as much as I want.
I do have some trouble finding those BSAA badges all around. I need them to unlock stuff but I've only managed to find 7 so far...
-
Question: What about the Merchant? Is he back?
On semi-related news, I've heard rumors of a Wii Remake of RE2 using RE4's engine.
-
Merchant is gone. All purchases and selling are done after chapters on a menu that looks like the old Code veronica inventory.
He was Spanish so why would be come to Africa?
Haven't heard of that RE2 remake though. Would make sense though since Leon is the main character in RE2 and there wasn't any Re2 part in Umbrella chronicles.
-
I beat it yesterday <.< I love it, I've been a loyal Resident Evil fan.
Even back when the controls sucked.
-
For those who want to add me, Middeth for both ps3 & Xbox360.
Razor, I added j00!
Sweet, now I just have to a get a 360.
-
Lmfao! Someone had a name similar to yours on Osmose's friendlist XD
And Prple, I didn't know we were suppose to buy them with the points made. =<
But dear god... Chris' outfits are horrible loookin!
And Sheva's last outfit is decent but I hate the prints.
They have the Emblem locations on Gamefaqs. <<

They work fast.
-
Faqs are for fags.
I've found 16 without a guide so far.
But I don't want to buy the thingies that gives weapons unlimited ammo.
Is it something I turn on or will it always be unlimited?
'cuz having unlimited ammo will make the game just bit too easy. The challenge would disappear.
-

Oh but there in lies the truth, I DO have a gamertag.
Just no Xbox 360.

Okay, I bought it and you can turn ON/OFF unlimited ammo from a menu that pops up at the start of the game or the "Special settings".
As for the trophies. I got all but 3 now. And that's because a lack of badges.
RE5 Mercenaries is hard though. That butcher just won't leave me alone.
