Title: Do you belive in peace?
Post by: Fisherson on March 10, 2009, 07:08:32 PM
The old lady that I live with says that peace is overrated and that "fighting for peace"s a oxymoron. That what we want is unity.

Peace is just a theory, really. Such as the theory of nothingness. (Lol throwback.) Peace is the assumption that no ideas conflict with ANY other ideas. Honestly, that's just not gonna happen. Unity sounds achievable, though.

INB4 big sciency words.

I believe in peace, as in a period of time with no fights.

And as in that which all true warriors strive four!

Actually, I think peace might be achieved with more separation, not more unity. If everyone iin the world respected each other enough to back off and let them do their own thing, providing that laws were not broken, then people's disagreements won't necessarily have to be resolved. Buut... Realisticly, yeah. Peace exists in some form on an inter-country basis so our best bet is to make the whole planet one big country with planetwide laws and punish everone who disobeys them. Doesn't sound very free to me, but there would be more chance for peace.

Peace can exist but there will always be the human error. As long as many let their own desires govern them, peace will never truly be achieved. Peace can only be attained through wisdom and insight, seeing that there are things far greater than themselves out there.

Humankind's desires are natural; motivation for survival and progress, however when one's desires and greed grow far beyond their own comprehension, they engulf themselves and everyone around them in a maelstrom of ruin and despair.

Several times I have seen this happen to people I know. They suffered because they did not comprehend the repercussions of their actions. I will not name names, but if anyone has heard of similar accounts then you will understand what I am talking about.

As long as humans idolize the path of ruin as the road to being acceptance, peace will never exist.

Peace is too idealistic. Tolerance and respect is what people need to learn.

Peace will only exist when an evil dictator caller takes over Earth and nuke everyone that disagrees with him, and then he would give everyone free food and home and then people would all work and sutff to get free food and stuff.
Indeed. Peace and freedom; the two are both desirable and yet, to an extent, mutually exclusive. Every government on earth has essentially tried to find the right balance between order and chaos, choice and control. And no matter what combination we try, we'll always be unsatisfied. Because we'll always want to have our cake and eat it.

Well, I mean, until we become able to alter fundamental human nature. But that's just science fiction, right? *Smokes a joint*

The only way to acheive peace is for all humans to mass suicide.

Peace is when people are satisfied with what they have and doesn't crave for more.
As long as people are messing in other people's business; there will be conflict.
Trying to make other people lay down arms while you still have yours up is not peace.
Religious differences have always been a problem, but as long as people accept that people think and believe differently there will be no problem.
Trying to make other people like yourself(fanaticism) is what creates the greatest conflicts. Not just religion, but also those things that we see as a must like school or something.
Just because you have a good life where you have it with the culture and standar of your own country doesn't mean that some people in some other place would have as well.
People are different. People need to accept that.

There's been peace in the world for a long time now. If you count "peace" as "no wars". But there are conflicts and people who believe that their leaders are wrong. People who think that what they are doing will be better for everyone.
Peace is only momentarily though. Because after the calm comes the storm. As long as people are different, there are bound to be new conflicts.

All of us atheists are thinking like atheists, and not understanding

That's what you get for being atheists. Your minds are too closed to think in any way other than what you've been programmed to believe.

They've both been used to justify war.

They're beyond the comprehension of man.

They're greater/above than man.

People die for both.

People KILL for both.

They're both there if you look hard enough.

Nobody really wants them.

They're both being made into a bad memory by society.

Stop me if I've guessed it (or gotten close), because I'm running out of ideas @_@

While some of those are actually pretty good, they're not the one I had in mind.
