The translation is... different than the one I had once played. We played togheter up towhen Lock (not Locke) first appears, before meeting with Tina (not Terra).
And up until now Lock already called her an Empire Bitch, the word **** has been uttered quite a few times, plus a few other curses by Kefka (not- oh wait he's still Kefka). And we only got to like, 10 minutes of gameplay, laughing like madman each time a character says "****".
Anyone else saw this yet?
-
Yeah, Ive played that one.
I have a couple of different roms for VI on my homebrew channel. One of them is this version.
-
...wait you got it *inside* Homebrew Channel? He had to create a new channel especially for it.
-
Yeah. An SD card, And some homebrew channel will not only save you money, but wii space
-
...okay I can get the Lock(e) or Tina being another translation for Terra.
But why the hell is Sabin called Mash?
And I was wrong, Kefka now is Cefca.
-
Tina? Seriously? That's not her name. It doesn't even fit with the whole nature-themed naming convention of (some of) the series.
Also, Mash? Seriously? That's not his name.
EDIT: Cefca?!
-
Yes, Cefca. :(
EDIT: My friend just deleted it. Apparently he felt the swearing was getting annyoing. To quote him, "It was like as if Nobuo Uematsu made music for Pulp Fiction"
-
Yeah they pretty much destroy the names.
If i remember correctly, it actually trasnlates Wedge and Vicks to the proper franchise names though, unless its another translation im thinking of. There are a few out there
-
Wha-
I'm afraid Nintendo/Squenix/whoever dropped the ball needs to be deep fried, as that's the only way they can ever make this product seem even remotely attractive.
Unless I need a hearty chuckle.
-
Tina, Lock, and all those crazy misspelled names are the japanese version names, I believe.
-
You're quite right, Bluhman, but still, they sounded great for japanese people with that name, while for us the name change was better.
And Archem, I believe it was fanmade.
-
Cefca?!?!?!
I am now extremely irritated

Then it is clearly for comedic fail. Much love.

No, they just wanted to stick to the complete original.
They don't swear that much in the original, or rather, they do. They say "kuso" a lot, it may be anything from "Doodoo" to "f*cking s*it hell"
-
Japan is awesome.
-
Not really. But they do awesome games and tiny tiny tiny cellphones.
-
Her real name is Aerith.

So said ZeroKābiiEkkusu

When FFVI was released for the SNES, the translation team, headed by a guy named Ted Woosley (or something), took some very "creative" liberties with the translation. For example, the name "Tina" sounds exotic to a Japanese person, but it's a common name in NA and Europe, so they changed it to "Terra" for the release here. The Cefca/Kefka thing is due to the difficulty of translating Japanese into English - there's several phonetic sounds in English that aren't used in Japanese, so letters like L/R and B/V are often mistaken.
As a side note, the Fire/Fira/Firaga scheme for spells has always been the norm for Japan, but due to limited text space in the ROM, they only had 6 letters to work with, so they had to use the Fire/Fire 2/Fire 3 scheme up until FFVIII, and they also renamed Blizzard to Ice, Thunder to Bolt, etc.

I can imagine Edgar saying "f*cking sh*t hell" a whole lot.
Sadly he probably isn't called Edgar any more.
-
No, Edgar is still Edgar. He and Shadow are the rule's exception.
