Title: Action Game Maker (Enterbrains Newest game maker)
Post by: Ben on March 24, 2009, 07:21:18 PM
I stumbled upon this recently

Right now, the only official releases are in japan, but there is buzz about an english release

there is an unofficial english patch for the trial version, and in the very near future (by the sounds of it, in a week or two)

For some reason, i cant start a new project with the trial version, the plugins dont properly load...but i have played some sample games, and on my days off this week, im gonna play around with settings and tell you what i think of the interface.

Basically, rather then a straight up RPG maker, this one is focused on creating one of three types of Action games. Action/rpg(think zelda) Shump (Darius twin, 1943, Gradius) or a platformer (mario, megaman, etc)

I dont know the potential as I cant run the maker yet, but i plan on finding out

Here is the cool part about it though

you can export your games into one of three formats

PC executable

Flash

Xbox360

Not to mention, any size of tile, or sprite is supported, with 4 layers of tiles, and a flow chart style interface for game play.
You can set the editor to create a game of various resolutions....from the tiny low-res 2k3, to super full high def.

go to actiongamemaker.com

try the trial, the english patch, play around

discuss

i mean like....

somebody get the trial to work, and review it or something
Or perhaps if anyone here tries it and has the same troubles i did with the installation, possible work arounds could be posted

id like to know the customization factor
id like to know the cookie cutter factor

of course its awesome, it means i wont have to wait for stencyl to make a sweet *** platformer.

This sounds very interesting. I was wondering when there would be a platformer and Action RPG maker. XD

i got it to work

the english patch is a bit spotty

i only played around for a minute

you can make a super basic game in a few seconds

looks to me like youll be able to download user made game templates and use them like you would an rgss script or something

Trial version seems to not allow for any sort of graphic or sound customization
seems easy to use, but the interface is WAAAAAAY different from the rpgmakers

looking forward to an english release

turns out i had troubles installing because of directX10, and wondows 64
there are fixes

i can hardly wait for a non moonspeak version

360 export, you say?
This sounds pretty interesting...I might have to check it out later on

Action Game maker is a maker of its own, I'm not surprised if the interface is different from RPG maker.

I've been hearing a lot about Action Game Maker and I can't wait for an English release... I hope it happens.

It's possible to make Action RPGs, side scrolling shooters, and platformers with it, as far as I know.

right now enterbrain has not announced an english release of the full version.
If they dont, im sure somebody will make a translation patch

if they dont, i plan on not using a legal compy, just for the record, but if they release it officially in english, Ill will probably shell out the cash

I've seen some videos, it looks pretty good. It'd be fun to play with a bit.

i just finished a good session figuring out as much as i could...the english trial patch kind of sucks...theres still some untranslated content, but the program itself seems really awesome. You have all sorts of neat things

you can choose the size of tiles from 8X8 to 512X512, the pixel movement rate, collision detection, X/Y movement velocity, gravity
the parameters of your tilesets and sprite sheets (meaning you dont need templates anymore) and three of the sample projects have an RTP consisting of nothing but bald, simple resources and simple greyscale tiles that you can use as bases

Im attaching one of the RTP spritesheets from each of the simple sample games

Also, even though right now there are only 3 plugins released (ActionRPG, SHUMP, and Platform) there is a whole bunch of options for plug in settings for
Racing
Simulation
Music
Fighter
etc

Im assuming enterbrain will release more plugins, probably for a bit of coin.

It looks like this thing can help me acheive my goal of never learning a programming language

it retails for about 118$ US, and i have found some sites that are in the process of making a translation patch for the full version. Ill post anything i might find...this looks pretty sweet

I saw demonstration videos, it looks pretty cool. Though $118, hm... a bit steep.

i  see where youre coming from there

but im sure the price will go down
and i think they are charging exponentially more simply because of the ability to export your games to Flash and Xbox formats

Yeah, I might wait on it until the price is reasonable. Anyways, those features I may not use, except maybe exporting to Flash

Adding more than enough MS Points to pay for this as I type. I eagerly await the inevitable release.

This sounds alot like Enterbrain's "**** you!" to the Stencyl team, honestly.  But I'll roll with it, I guess.  As long as someone makes it, I'm happy XD

Sounds cool. I have wanted to make a platformer for a while... I was gonna do it in fusion.

Stencyl pretty much deserves a **** you
that **** was supposed to be released for open beta last year
i know they say that they wanted to make a better product, but **** that. give me some dates and progress reports
they put up a big fuss about how awesome stencyl is going to be because its free, and they they "wont give progress reports" because they are in "stealth mode" but honestly, to me thats just unprofessional...theyre losing my intrest on a daily basis. Id rather pay

I know where your coming from. At first I was interested but this has been long enough to drop that stupid stealth mode.

its so frustrating.  i used to check the site once a week looking for updates...now its a every-two-months sort of deal.
I would have patiently waited for its release and probably donated some money....and then in a strange and ironic twist of fate, i found out about AGM through a thread made by a disgruntled stencyl forums member.

Stealth mode can suck a ball. Give me a screenshot at least

Indeed, they should give screenshots at least, not just "we can't say, blah blah blah. That's how you LOSE interest!

So I was looking around just now and found this
http://rpgcrisis.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=824&st=20
which is a discussion thread regarding a full retail version english patch....which is awesome...not an official release, but Ill take it

Im going to buy the full version this weekend.
Apparently you can mix the existing plugins to combine genres.
Not to mention Enterbrain will be releasing more and more plugins for fighters, beat-em-ups, tabletop games, racing games etc
Im gonna buy the **** out of this, and in a couple of months, I hope to post a demo of a platformer, or something....

The fact that the translation's only partially complete makes navigating the user interface torture.  I think I'm going to reserve my thoughts until I've gathered enough of a perspective on its workings to make a fair assessment, but from what little I've seen that was even remotely intelligible, it looks promising.

Im attempting to get the remiander traslated now.

regradless, Im buying this this weekend and gonna find out what the leftover moonspeak traslates to.
And then Im gonna rapidshit the saved smaples  after i translate it for other noobs to use.

Ive endured some of the moonspeak, and want to play with the full. I badly want to use my own graphics....and i am a few lines away from getting the hang of it.

Seriously, this **** has so much potential, that it makes every RPGmaker game suck in comparison
