How did you guys come up with your usernames?
As for me, it's the same as this game I was thinking of making, about this country of pagans who are being pursued by an evil Christian empire that becomes the de facto world government. I was trying to think of something dark, the simplest word being death, then I misspelled it, because I thought that would be cooler, as is the mentality for many heavy metal bands, but then I decided to throw in a made-up word that sorta rhymes, as not to be too shallow. Thus it is the perfect balance of darkness and silly.
-
Mine actually came about way back as a call sign in war games. And the early development of my character Darkfox.
Little does anyone know that the early Darkfox was actually a Black Jester, not a beast-man, and he was less serious and more weird and used a mild amount of odd humor. At the same time he was a parasitic character. Later I'd scrap the idea and make him a priest-like character of a holy element. This is the present Darkfox, a holyman. Which is a long ways from a black jester. XD

I don't really remember actually. I think I just saw misspelled or mistranslated Cerberus and liked the name. Something simple like that.

The original Greek form is Kerebos, actually, so your name is more correct than Cerberus.
-

There's a comic series called "Cerebus the Aardvark" made by a guy who really, really hates women.
My name is the same as my name in Final Fantasy XI. The "Val" part is derived from a character I made up when I was a screwy little teen, and the "iere" just sounds nice.
-
Isn't it Kerberos? But I mean in games mostly, you can see Cerebus instead of Cerberus. Such as, I think, in Golden Sun.

Yeah, I've read about the comic, but only after I chose the user name.
And I thought your user name was actually your name or something. Because "Vallières" is a second name (or family name, not exactly sure about it) and thought it was just spelled differently, but pronounced the same.

If you knew an ounce of French you would know it's pronounced BO-YEE-EH.
And the reason why you see Cerebus more is that it's easier for Japanese people to pronounce. And Japanese people are always right, so I should just say, THAT'S HOW IT'S ****ING SPELLED.
-
I refuse to tell my embarrassing story again >_>
-
Sailor Moon Mario Kart?
-
If you knew an ounce of French you would know it's pronounced BO-YEE-EH.
Okay... just so you know, my first language is French. BO-YEE-EH? What the hell are you talking about!?
Also, from Wikipedia:
Cerberus (Greek: Κέρβερος, Kérberos)
So that's not "HOW IT'S F***ING SPELLED", as you say.
Sure, Wikipedia may not be 100% exact, but there is a slight chance that it's more exact than you.
Yes.
-
Sailor Moon Mario Kart?
Nice knowing you, dude... *sneaks away*
-
I lost all my money in Vegas in a game of blackjack because of this card. But I'm one of those people who likes to laugh at the past and found this event in itself quite humorous. The fact that one card had such an impact on my life makes it really significant and I like significance so I chose it as my surname.

I was just kidding. And now I know that you're French.
-
Maybe on the French thing part (BO-YEE-EH) but I doubt you were on the Kerebos one.
-

Yeah, I wasn't. Sorry, dude.
-
I got mine because of
A) Being a gemini
and
B) My nerdgasms over megaman3
-
I have no idea how i got mine. I dont know, i was in some sort of phase at primary school where it was cool to say random words. Hobo stuck.
-
Drack ith (Drakiyth) or Drack Uth
I decided to create this name originally for an anti-paladin/dark lord/deathknight type of character and thought it sounded very evil and very badass. So, I grabbed a cool looking demonic face off a shield in Warhammer Online and went with it.. Now everybody calls me Drak and I honestly love it.

Mine is the defualt class name in Dragon Warrior 7 on the old PS1.

Laughed quite hard.

Sailor Moon Mario Kart?
Sailor Moon Mario Kart?
SaiKar?
...Wow Sai'kar. Wow. *claps*
As for me...
"Uberpwn first used the name 'Uberpwn' in the online multiplayer first-person shooter Sauerbraten. Shortly after joining Sauerbraten, he joined the famed w00t clan, for which he was required to tag his name with the word 'w00t'. Thus, Uberpwn-w00t was spawned. The name stuck, and he now uses it for numerous other online games, websites and forums."
And I gotta tell you, being called "Uber" as a nickname... Kicks. Ass.
-
Yes, that's how it went. As for why I had a Sailor Moon poster in my room at the time, perhaps it's best if we don't elaborate.
-
It's like the Noodle Incident, Sai'Kar. Whatever I come up with is probably far, far worse and more outrageous than what actually happened.
-
My name was improvised completely. Came to charas, had to enter a user name. This was the 1st forum I signed up to, by the way, so, enh. Anyways, I just decided to go with 'Bluhman', and the name has stuck. I've been using it everywhere since then.
-
It's funny because there was a Blahman, then a Bluhman... ARCH NEMESIS? *dramatic stinger*
-
Humourous cartoon is humourous.
-
It was actually Blaman. No "h". So it's different!
-
I like Link and force at the end kinda sound cool soooooooooooo
Linkforce!! :D
-
It was actually Blaman. No "h". So it's different!
Only slightly!
-
It's what the ladies call my wang *air thrust*
-
It's what the ladies call my wang *air thrust*
Love this.
-
Serious amounts of Runescape around age 13 that inspired me to name my hotmail account rune_bladex@hmail so I stuck with it. 3 Years after that I completely changed my nickname but Runeblade stays here at least.
-
"Warx" was the name of a character in a short story I wrote for school. "PhoenixBlade" referred to the weapon he used, a dagger that healed wounds instead of inflicting them. Of course, a lot has changed since then, and I usually go by the handle "WarxePB" now.
-
Ah, interesting. Kinda like how DF's weapons are not for killing. And yay! Warxe is back!
Edit: And now he's gone again! *cries* I think I scared him with my avatar...
-
Absolutely no reason. I think I read it somewhere once and it just stuck. It's been used by me in a few places now.
Didn't stop my cousin from stealing it and using it as his Gamertag.
-
Mine is part of my last name before I changed my last name.
-
Mine is a name I came up with randomly back in 3rd grade when I started playing Runescape. My friends urged by to keep the name Elecrusher, and so it is done. "Legacy of-" is just one of the many extensions. Others include "-the Snowman", "-'s Chocobo", "-, Penna-Una", "Marcus Aurelius-", "Agent-", and several others.
-
"Marcus Aurelius-"
Either this is more common that I thought, or I knew you in high school.
-
Marcus Aurelius was a Roman emperor.
That you knew in high school.
-
Neat. I knew a Roman Emperor.
-
Marcus Aurelius
Does he look like a bitch?
-
My name is quite simple.
Inspired by the old school Final fantasy games where names couldn't be 18 letters long.
Like how Thunder and Thundara was called "lit 1" and "lit " in the first game.
And how the classes where called Fighter, Thief, Monk, Red mage, Blk mage, Wht mage.
So while "Blk" is Black without any vowels and "wht" is white. Prpl is "Purple" without vowels.
So I'm a purple mage. A tribute to the ancestor of RPGs makes it "Prpl_Mage"
-
First initial + last name + 420= tmerrill420 woot woot
-
Fruckert was my Dwarf on World of Warcraft
I was just typing gibberish, like Umerickmanshnit
Didn't realize what it sounded like untill later
-
I drew a wavemaster for .hack when I was younger and named him Fortet.
Later used him in a .hack fan fic.
I've just used it ever since. He's purple and orange :)
-
Yes, that's how it went. As for why I had a Sailor Moon poster in my room at the time, perhaps it's best if we don't elaborate.
Hey, you don't have a Sailor Moon Avatar.
It has to do with that terrible, terrible, terrible game I first made with RPGMaker. It was the name of the main character, and a bit of a cross between Django from Boktai, and my pet name at home (i.e, what my parents call me).
....Now that I think of it, a Sailor Moon Kart Racing game would be pretty boss...^_^
-
I was like 9 when I came up with my name. I hate it now, I prefer to be called RougeSniper3147.
-
Unless you're like those... people... in WoW and say Rouge instead of Rogue. Seriously, what the hell!?
-
The Vertex of a Triangle is the apex.
Triangles are cool.
[/story]
-
Nothing to do with your rl name then? :/
What, Alex? Nah, coincidence.
-
At birth.
-
"Grandy" was my best Final Fantasy tactics randomly-generated character. He also happened to be a Thief.
I also got Gailar, Kain, and Celesh as characters that way.
-
You're kidding? Your name... Was randomly generated? :(
Actauly my OC's name was generated. "David Dent" was a created using a random name generator for heroes and NPCs.
-
Unless you're like those... people... in WoW and say Rouge instead of Rogue. Seriously, what the hell!?
No its just the way I spell it. I don't play WoW.
-
Ah but I said "like those people in WoW". I don't understand, though. Seriously. For some words, changing some letters can save you a huge 0.23 seconds, but Rouge instead of Rogue?
Ouate de Phoque!?
-
Dude, chill its just a spelling difference, no big deal.

Your new username.
Sorry for the spam. I was going to actually post something, but my brain melted and this sorry excuse for a post showed up to take its place.
-
Ah. I caught it.
Hmph. Fapping.
*high five*

Oh! Right! I forgot that I made a funny!
And for a second, I thought I made some strange, upside-down "F"...
*low five*
-
He's French. :P
oh.
sorry bout' that then.
Okay, and what do you mean exactly by this?
First, I'm not French. I thought you would know that there are other places where people speak French beside France. But it seems many people ignore that, so I forgive you.
Second, even if I was French, how could that explain it? And why would you be sorry? Oh, let me guess... "lol u surrender lolol" (Basically all people seems to know about France)
Third, you all just lost the game.

'Tis true. That why I have a spell check
-
Fish, you misspell stuff all the time. XD
-
Okay, and what do you mean exactly by this?
Rouge is french for red, calm down.
-
I'm very calm. But I doubt that's the thing. Especially the "sorry bout' that then".
Anyway.
-

No I thought your English wasn't very good, so I said sorry, at something that was obviously false. And I do know that people talk french in other countries too. I'm not stupid.
I dont know french or any language besides English, so don't expect me to know that rouge means red.
-
Didn't say that you were stupid. Seriously, it seems a lot of people think only people of France speak French.
And eh... nothing to do with my English, it's still Rogue! Not Rouge!
Also, I thought you said sorry because you thought I was from France. As in "Sorry if you suck".
Because seriously, so many people don't like France and think they suck (and it seems the only reason is the surrendering).
But I'm not from France anyway so whatever.
Sorry for the little misunderstanding.
Edit: By the way, the "People from other places also speak French" comment was meant for DedlellyDeth.

Oh.
-
I dont speak a word of french. Except for rouge.
I speak more than a few. Problem is, I can't form a coherent sentence with them. Je voudrais un chapeau!
-
Je voudrais un chapeau!
This is a coherent sentence.
Rouge abajour petit poa!
This is not a coherent sentence.
Actually, it's just a bunch of words. And... poa?
-
Yes I know. But thats as far as my french goes, those 3 words.
No idea about poa. It sounds like poa but I donno how to spell it XD
Pois?
-
Yes, either Pois (pea(s)) or Poids (weight).
-
Pois, pois.
how do you pronounce your name?
-
This is a coherent sentence.
Then it was luck!
-
No offense, Cerebus. I wouldn't say anything if you were French.
BTW, I sometimes call people by what language they speak for some reason. Like I'll call Mexicans Spanish because it's easier when I'm talking about their language.
-
Smokey is my graffiti name.
I use to paint purdy pictures all over Oklahoma.
locs stands for Loves Obvious Crazy ****.
So Smokey Loves Obvious Crazy ****
2002 is when all this smokey crap started.

Text walls bad. One liners or get off my intrawebz.
how do you pronounce your name?
I honestly would like to know myself. LUCAS MUST ENLIGHTEN.
-
You're kidding? Your name... Was randomly generated? :(
Yes.
-
Yes.
Yes to kidding, or yet to it being randomly generated? Darn you, Lucas, and your confusing answers.
-
Text walls bad. One liners or get off my intrawebz.
That's what you call a word of text? Seriously?
You like your walls small I guess.
And yes, I'm curious as how you pronounce "Irineu" as well.
-
That's what you call a word of text? Seriously?
You like your walls small I guess.
Actually, I'd call that several words of text.
A small wall is a wall nonetheless.
-
I'm named after a village.
Seriously. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archem)
-
Why "2"?
-
Does it matter? Make up your own reason.
-
And yes, I'm curious as how you pronounce "Irineu" as well.
Well it's probably like Portuguese.
So think fogo and agua and stuff and then pronounce Irineu afterwards.
-
But... I don't speak Portuguese!
My guess is something near "Ee-rye-new".
Does it matter?
Well, yes!
Make up your own reason.
Well, no!
-
Uhm... but your English seems good.
Or maybe you can type/write in English but not speak?
I guess we'll have to wait for Grandy to tell.
Either that, or you can say it in the "Post a voice clip of yourself".
-
Uhm... but your English seems good.
Or maybe you can type/write in English but not speak?
Yeah, he said before he learned all his english online.
-
Learning English just from the internet and videogames is a pretty big achievement, to be honest. Be proud, sir.
-
Yeah, that's damn cool. Crazy that if any of us met you, you wouldn't be able to speak it though.
-
Yeah. I learned English by chatting online and playing videogames. So I cant really speak, just read/write.
It's quite the same for me. However, I had English class too.
But English class didn't help me understand texts in video games better, no!
It's video game texts that helped me in English class.
I can't speak English very well, though. I'm not that bad, but I often search my words and I think it's quite noticeable that English is not my first language when I speak.
Also, I have hard time understanding when people speak English too fast for me. So writing/reading is what I'm best at.
However, even on text, I often make mistakes, but at least it's not very hard to understand me. I think...
-

Same as this fella'. I've had English classes since I was like 9 perhaps. But I don't think I've ever learned anything from English classes since I was 10 or so.
I learned because I had to learn. It's kinda hard to complete Final Fantasy games without understanding what the crap they are saying.
I wasn't a nintendo fellow like others when I was a kid. I played game where people had dialogues and stuff.
So when that character tells you what's going on: you can't guess your way throughout the rest of the game.
I gotta say, I've learned a lot from Charas though. I'm using the language and reading it. And that's probably what it's about. I need to know it to communicate with you people.
Although, I can listen and speak English without any kinds of restrains. Hearing tasks in school are just a terrible waste of time.
-
You're canadian, right?
Yeah well French Canadian. I'm from Québec.
-
Yeah. I learned English by chatting online and playing videogames. So I cant really speak, just read/write.
Man, that's awesome. I hope you're not typing the Engrish you may have learned from that. XD
Also, Cerebus meant "i-rai-nu".
-
Man, that's awesome. I hope you're not typing the Engrish you may have learned from that. XD

If he can't speak it. Why would he say "Engrish"?
And I think Cerebus actually meant what he wrote. "i-rai-nu" doesn't sound very Portuguese to me.
-

Look up Engrish. Engrish is when Japanese people try to speak English and fail epicly. I was transliterating what Cerebus wrote into Portuguese phonetic conventions.
-
Yeah. I gotta get English classes some time. To learn how to speak it. Sooner or later I ll, since I plan on moving somewhere on Europe, some day.
Become addicted to YouTube, watch everything in English, listen carefully, and you'll be fine.
-
I dont know Cerebus. Because see. You dont speak Portuguese, and I dont speak english. I dont even know how "Ee-rye-new" sounds. :/
Ask Grandy. He's good at English and is also Brazilian.

See, every episode had a little vingette at the end where Christopher Lloyd--that is, Doc--showed some science to the kiddies. Bill Nye was his 'assistant'. In one episode, the Doc mispronounced 'gigawatts' (he said 'jiggawatts'), and Bill Nye corrected him. Doc's responce"
