Title: Any PC gamers out there?
Post by: zuhane on April 09, 2009, 11:40:08 AM
I'm kinda getting bored of ultra-realistic-shoot-people-from-different-ethnic-background-macho-emotionless-jock FPS games on PC.

Can anyone recommend any - free or not - games that are a bit different? Are there any racing games with powerups/weapons like
Mario Kart or Wipeout or something?

Are there any good platform, fighting, RPG or puzzle games or anything for that matter out there?

I love original games like Team Fortress 2, for example. Or Knytt Stories. Something a bit different. Thanks guys!

There are some RPGs out there. But consoles are probably the way to go when you're not looking for strategic and FPS games.

In the way of FPS, there's Doom, Blood, Duke Nukem, Strife, And Turok the Dinosaur Hunter - several more if you're not afraid to test them for yourself.

There's not a whole lot PC has to offer in the ways of platforming.  Nothing recently, at least.  If you're not scared off by a pre-2000's action platformer, you HAVE TO get Abuse.

I couldn't tell you if there's fighting games.  In the places I look for games I only ever find hentai games involving giant robots when I look for fighting games.  Moonstone could MAYBE pass for a fighting game.

The PC has a host of RPGs, though they're not going to appeal to someone who's not a fan of Western/Dungeons and Dragon-based RPGs.  Lands of Lore, Might and Magic, The Elder Scrolls, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Anvil of Dawn, The Summoning, Just recently Das Schwarz Auge came out.  I can't say I'd recommend it over the other names I listed, but it's worth a try.

I'll assume that by puzzle you mean adventure games.  King's Quest, Quest for Glory, 5 Days a Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic, Alone in The Dark, Call of Cthulhu and DragonSphere are all pretty good, from what I've seen.  I've never been much for graphic adventure games, though.

Bear in mind that all but a handful of my list are DOS games, but they're all still worth giving a chance.

Lol. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Fortress)

I love it death, but still.

Also, why the hell are you on a computer if you're not gonna play an FPS (or possibly an RTS)? And what ultra-realistic games are you speaking of? CoD? Certainly not!

Go buy a PS3 or something.

I'm pretty sure he knew a game with "2" at the end of the title was a sequel.

And if he didn't then he ought to murder himself right now.

There is a platformer game called Shakii the Wolf that you can play with DosBox. I'm surprised nobody suggested Worms.

Thanks guys!

Dominicy- Moonstone looks fun. Forgot Turok was on PC, oh joy! I'll check some of those games out.

Archem 2- I have played FPSs... too many! I have Orange Box, CS: Source, COD 4, FEAR 2, Garry's Mod, Left 4 Dead,
Farcry 2, Bioshock, Fallout 3/Oblivion (kind of FPSish), millions of Source mods, CS 1.6, Warrock, Warsow and others I
can't remember!

Darkfox- I'll check those games out. Sound ace! I bought Worms World Party and it will NOT work on Vista. Tried EVERYTHING! :(

Lucas- That Little Big Adventure game looks ace! I'll check that out!

Uberpwn- I downloaded Sauerbraten 3 times and uninstalled. I don't get the fuss. I don't understand how it works or what's amazing about it. Teach me!

I played Abuse ages ago and it was effing ace. I usually stay away from DOS
games because of compatibility issues.

Love C&C... but was disappointed MAJORLY by Red Alert 3 :(

To anyone reading this who is thinking the same: GET ORANGE BOX! BEST £17 YOU WILL EVER SPEND!

May I also suggest the Descent series? Intensive droid mashing space flight fun. StarCraft, Warcraft. MechWarrior!? The Unreal series is kickass and runs well on Vista. Quake series runs on Vista too.

More than a sequel, dawg. It's, like, the 3 millionth iteration of a team with a fortress vs. the same.

Although numbers don't necessarily equal sequel. Left 4 Dead. Army of 2 Two. Area 51. Resident Evil 4.

I believe my point still stands.

Linebreaks break your mama's back? NOOOOOOOOOOO! Wait...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, there is a game called Die By The Sword which was kind of a founder of the motion controlled weapon use. The faster you move the mouse the faster the sword swings, and it was pretty revolutionary for the time.

The avatar size was upped to 100x100... although... things beyond 100x100 are working too strangely...
