Title: Anyone here taken the MBTI?
Post by: Valiere on April 10, 2009, 04:08:22 AM
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator, I mean. It's a personality test that assigns you a four-letter "type" -- like ESTJ, INFP, etc. The ins and outs of it are a little tough to explain and would result in a "tl;dr" but I was wondering if anyone else had taken the real deal or one of the many internet versions.

Where all my INTP's at?

I have never heard of this. For the benefit of others, can you link to a Google result explaining this in greater detail? I don't know how many people have heard of this before (I evidently have not).

Hey, what do you know?

I'm INTP, apparently. Sounds about right, I suppose.

I guess the wikipedia entry works:

Well, if this test is to be trusted (first link to a test on the Wikipedia page), then I'm INTP.

Not surprising. INTP is a rare type but is also the archetypal nerd, so they're all over the internet.

I figured you were an INFP, Fish, but INFJ is close.

You just seemed more like the nicer, more sensitive sort (which is what the F means).

We're just a bunch of introverts here, now aren't we?

Makes sense. Extroverts would be out partying or socializing or whatever crap they do these days.

Ah. Alot of the question were easy to awnser. They look like things I ask myself everyday. So does mine mean I'm a nice guy who like to help people and enjoys intellectual activities? Cause that's how I'd describe myself.

About what I expected. None of those numbers are all that high so I guess I'm fairly close to center. I may be an introvert nerd, but I'm also the leader of introvert nerds so I have to occasionally do some nonsense social stuff to make sure it all goes down nicely.

What are the opposites to some of those? I mean, what's the opposite of thinking and perceiving? Not thinking and not perceiving? >_>

I am an INTP and I'm actually a member of intpforum.com, a forum for INTPs. INTP is pretty much spot on for me, so this (http://www.intp.org/intprofile.html) is kinda like 'my instruction manual'

More or less. Here's a description:  http://typelogic.com/infj.html

Although the description may be a bit off. I've known at least one shallow INFJ.

What are the opposites to some of those? I mean, what's the opposite of thinking and perceiving? Not thinking and not perceiving? >_>

Opposite of Thinking is Feeling. It's not that Feelers don't think or Thinkers don't feel, it's just a preference. An INFP, for example, may be more likely to focus on their own feelings on an issue or how others around them feel, but an INTP may get bored with people and want to think about abstract issues.

Opposite of Perceiving is Judging. Basically, Perceiving = Type B personality (spontaneous, likes to go with the flow), Judging = Type A (organized, likes to control).

Ah. Alot of the question were easy to awnser.

I disagree. A lot of them were something like "you value x more than y." And I'm thinking to myself, well I value them about the same, so I don't want to say yes. But if I say no, does that mean I value y more than x? Because I don't feel that way either. Like there was a question about if I value justice or mercy more. I feel they're equally important, but there is no real way to input that kind of answer.

There were a LOT of questions like that. I do wonder how they handled situations like this, and if my thinking about them influenced my score.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Look how small all the values are for everything except introvert. You're really close to center on all of those.

It's just a little creepy when comparing yourself to an article and finding so many similarities. :p

Beneath the quiet exterior, INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier matters of life. Those who are activists -- INFJs gravitate toward such a role -- are there for the cause, not for personal glory or political power.

INFJs are champions of the oppressed and downtrodden. They often are found in the wake of an emergency, rescuing those who are in acute distress. INFJs may fantasize about getting revenge on those who victimize the defenseless. The concept of 'poetic justice' is appealing to the INFJ.

"There's something rotten in Denmark." Accurately suspicious about others' motives, INFJs are not easily led. These are the people that you can rarely fool any of the time. Though affable and sympathetic to most, INFJs are selective about their friends. Such a friendship is a symbiotic bond that transcends mere words.

INFJs have a knack for fluency in language and facility in communication. In addition, nonverbal sensitivity enables the INFJ to know and be known by others intimately.

Writing, counseling, public service and even politics are areas where INFJs frequently find their niche.

They tend to write those articles so that they're easy to agree with. Like, "you enjoy having some time to yourself" and "you enjoy the company of your friends" are both very easy to agree to, even though one's an introvert statement and one's an extrovert. It's sort of why I have a distrust of personality tests, because I feel the questions are too easy to slant.

It's the principle of cold reading. "The Barnum Effect" You throw out general statements and everyone will think it's about them. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Dp2Zqk8vHw)

That's why the long version of the test has about 20 questions all more or less asking the same thing. You may not feel 100% in each answer, but after they all get tallied up, you'll probably be able to tell whether you're an introvert or an extrovert.
