So I work with a couple of dudes who are pretty much gurus with web development and programming and stuff. The one guy sells serverspace and stuff
The other guy does i guess advanced php crap, and a bunch of flash and C/C++ stuff, professionally and bartends at night. He told me an overwhelming list of credentials and languages and crap. He says he can make an exe version, or a dumbed down online version
With various sprite making templates i have, ive sort of toyed with the idea of creating my own online generator. The friend who sells server space and domains and stuff wants some tattoos done, and is willing to trade services.
The Bartender programmer web guy and i are meeting up so i can show him some mockups and docs next week, so he can give me a price quote. The whole thing will set me back quite a few bucks, but nothing out of my range.
With the pending release of stencyl, the lack of versatile non rtp XP and VX generators, the eventual english retail release of AGM and all of this awesome middleware
that is out there aimed at 2-D indy game development...
Im making a new generator...or at least commissioning people to do it for me to my speculations.
Essentially, it would run on a variety of different bases ranging but not limited to
4 directional top down
8 directional top down
4 directional Isometric
Side-view platformer done two ways
One with premade body poses
One with individually made body parts that would be assembled in-generator.
In a variety of sizes and resolutions ranging from the 2k3 size/charas sprites to a 128pixel tile base variety.
The whole thing will be a lot of work, and i really dont want to ask for any help from people unless its volunteered.
It may be premature in announcing this...If my friend looks at what i have and says "Dude, Im sorry, but im just not into this" Then its pretty much tits up for this operation
If he is feeling it though, And i hope he is Ill gladly go ahead with it. And start looking for some DA or PJ types to help out. Perhaps even offer a commision to people that jump on board.
Generally speaking, it will cost me money, and i dont think Ill make much return on it, if any. But it is something id like to do.
If it sets me back an insane amount of money, then Ill just offer the offline exe as freeware.
So Im now making mockups and design docs.
But before I get too far...I was hoping to get some input from you guys.
The essentials of this are fairly simple.
Its a program that simply arranges PNG Images on top of other PNG images, In various categories. I would do the aligning manually, so that i could simple upload resources, categories and stuff
I would offer an IMPORT option and a RGB tweaker
do you guys have suggestions?
I honestly dont know the scope of Sam's skill, but from what i understand he is pretty good...I hope it all pans out. If it dosent, at the very least, Ill have some solid docs arranged in case i find people to hire for it later.
In the end, It would not be a "charas" generator, as it wouldnt be geared for RM2k3, but it would be free for all of you dudes to use and stuff.
Im probably getting ahead of myself here though. For All I know, this could go nowhere. But yeah, fags, give me some suggestions.

i mean like, features....suggest features...
or interface ideas.
My biggest chore right now is figuring out an interface.
that and making so many interchangable bases, but right now my worry is with the interface and features to include in the docs
-
Sound's good. Wasn't Val j talking about this? before? I think she had some ideas for a new generator.
-
I'm having the same problem as lucas at the moment
I'll try to design an interface later, but right now I'm busy
-
dont worry about designing anything dude. just throw ideas at me.
I am more then capable of designing things. Skins will come months from now.
Im figuring out features and things for now.
Like, throw some **** at me.

Okay here's something. Why not have cloth's that let you mix and match your pants and tops? I think it'd add a layer of originality to most Chara sets.
-
Well, I want to start of by saying: I love you. In a non-homosexual way. Even if this doesn't get finished, I commend your dedication, and your initiative. This is awesome, and you are awesome.
Now that I've got that out of the way.
I suggest... ****, man, I don't know. You've got an import option, and RGB tweaker planned, and I imagine many people here on Charas (including me) will be contributing stuff like clothing and hairstyles... Will it allow for the mixing and matching of different body parts from similar sets, or something to that effect?
I don't know. But I'm willing to contribute ****.

gemini is going to be like Charas.EX ?
as if it is kazbeel may be doing some thing the same

get back to what you are asking if you need any rm2k Japanese thing's let me know as me and The werewolf can work on some thing as you have not seen my new characters yet thanks to fish finding that Avatar site i can get some dressmaking made for some of my characters
what we need is like a way you have a top then mix any jeans any shoes and so on like what Uberpwn_w00t was saying

I was going to, but I decided that battle charsets almost invariably need to be custom. When you stick to a template, it sucks all the personality out of the character.
A new walking charset generator would be more palatable though, perhaps with some built-in poses to give it the edge over Charas'.
-
One suggestion: make varying body sizes, so taller characters are actually taller in battle.
-
If your read again, Ive already said that I plan on doing the templates in varying resolutions. 3 different sizes/ resolutions ranging from a 16pixel base-tile size, to a 64 pixel tile resolution. Im gearing it more toward people developing everything from iPhone projects, to 1080P high res projects.
Id like to stay away from calling them Battle Chara-sets. They arent. Theyre a cohesive sprite base that could essentially be used in any 2-d format that requires an animated player prite

Have a feature where you can adjust the positioning of objects on the sprite. It may seem useless, but things like this occasionally come up with a use.

I support this
And for my own idea, um...
How about a magic effect generator?
I'll try to explain later, my brains all melty right now due to teh lateness
