I understand how to make battlecharacters and sprites... but how to make face sets? Is there a tutorial I could look at? This will help me greatly so I won't have to bother you guys for tons of facesets or make poorly graphic ones on the generator...
-
Really. Just draw a face that fits the faceset template.
There's not much more to it than that.

There must be an easier way, mister mayor? I'm really bad at drawing in paint...

I'm afraid not.
Using the classic "splicing" method doesn't really work for the RTP facesets.
The problem is that they are more shaded and detailed than the other sprites in the game.
And a tutorial on how to make a face set is probably the same as a tutorial on how to draw faces.
Alternatively you can get yourself: a) a scanner to scan drawn pictures. Then resize them to fit the faceset template.
b) get a tablet and draw directly to the computer. Then proceed as in "a".
Another option would be that you get yourself a face and edit it in photoshop(photoshop and such makes it easier to change detailed pictures like eye colour, hair ect.)

Can't get photoshop, but making my own NEW faceset style might be an idea! Thankx Prpl!

Honestly, facesets (like monsters and battle backgrounds) are one of those graphics that you probably need to have actual artistic ability to make properly.

Scorched.

I'm not good at drawing on the computer... but I'm fairly good at drawing in person...
Better than the comp!!!

Depends on what kind of monster you use. If you go the Final fantasy way of making them massively detailed and awesome, then yes, you do need skill. However if you make them scale to match the Battlechar style and size, its pretty easy. Guess what i do.

I've always considered that quite a conundrum. Do I want monsters that are huge and detailed and pretty but will make my battle char look teeny? And what do I do about human enemies? Are they battle charset-style? Or are they massive and detailed, which will look all the more ridiculous next to my shrimpy fighters?

I still remember FF6. The part where you are fleeing and fighting all these soldiers. They look the same as the heroes on the map. But they are like 3x higher than the heroes once encountered.

I always hated that.
Very good game, though...I still need to beat it
