Title: Kanji-lish : A Firefox Add-on the Easiest Way to 習earn Japanese
Post by: DedlellyDeth on May 02, 2009, 07:04:08 PM
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7208

This Firefox 加dd-on is, IMHO, the best way to 習earn Japanese. When enabled, it replaces the first letter 之f 毎very 語ord on a webpage with a Kanji 之f 似imilar meaning.
Thus, you 習earn while you 働ork! You should be able to tell the English 語ord by context. The 只nly downside is that it's 勿ot context-sensitive.

Not to be the negative nancy here, but that's not going to help you at all.

Besides, it's giving the kanji for older brother on the word only. Ani/Oni =/= Only.

Are you sure you're not mistaken? I used a translator and it looks fine to me. (只=merely) I know they're not the most reliable, but I'm just making sure.
I also found that editing posts with the add-on active makes the kanji appear in your post.

I was aways under the impression that Oni meant "Demon" or demon like creatures, not "Brother".

Yup. Oni is a kind of ogre-like demon of Japanese mythos. Onii-chan refers to older brother.

Actually, Ani is YOUR older brother, if you were to call anyone "onii-chan" you would be punched in the face.

Onii-san is what you're thinking of, it's how you refer to someone elses older brother. Chan is insulting when used to refer to a guy. Kun is what you want if you're doing something like that.

Sorry guys 只 =/= 兄

(The first one is yours, the second one is ani/onii)

Also, my bad, onii and oni are an easy mistake to make.
