Here I'll share some of my works and character refs.

Enrin Darvis of the Locusts, rides around on Langosta Grande
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/ShinDarkfox/Art/RedRumor.jpg)
Red Rumor, one of DF's brothers and is very talkative. His power is hypnotic suggestion by eye contact. Also, his personality is inspired some by Deadpool.

Ares Final Form
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/ShinDarkfox/Art/ModernAgeGabrielle.jpg)
Gabrielle, need to draw her again. This is one of the saddest Shadowbeast stories. She's unable to get near any living thing because her power will wound and even kill any who get near her (though this isn't unfixable). She thus has no choice but to live a lonesome hermit life. She turns her back to people because looking at them directly focuses the energy on them.
Tanina the cenotaur (ceno meaning "wolf"). She's actually a half-enchant, part of her being human. She was originally a quadruped and despite being a half-enchant, she can't use magic. Instead her body absorbs it and as her body absorbs it, it also adapts to it making her stronger. Her front paws have always been flexible like hands and even in her taur form her front paws have the motions of puffy hands. Her fighting style revolves around her ability to attack with her front feet gripped like fists and her hands (in Taur form) and can lift herself up on her hind legs, attacking with her hands and front legs. She can also attack those behind her.
Personality wise she's thick skulled, can get confused on unfamiliar words, and is a bit of a tough girl. She is however loyal and forgiving, and doesn't like to kill anything. She's known to speak her mind, protect her friends, and is rather modest and timid in all actuality. She's quite known to be a caring person, be they beast or human, if somebody is nice to her, she feels obligated to repay them.
Spite in Perfection form. This is part 1 of a final battle with Spite before he becomes a total mess. This is Spite's only rational form where it actually states itself being a mistake, being formed of hatred that even it now detests.

Here's a WIP sprite I've had laying around. Need to finish this thing. >_<

i really like Spite and Grabielle designs. I am also interested in this boss thing you got going there; I've always like those kind of bad guys.
And your sprites, they always showed more commitment than mine xP

Thanks, and what do you mean? Your pretty good! XD Gabrielle is another of my favorites to draw. She's so tragic, but in that way, also so lovable because of it. And Spite was a long-time development. I changed the design multiple times. XD
The boss (Ares) actually have theme music too, done by RPG LORD/Eli. And yes, they are MP3. Pretty cool too. XD He's really improved on music. Well, to explain the boss, he's an entity that comes from Chaos, possibly a person who lost his original form or always was there. He's decided to bring order to all chaos and to destroy it by giving it certainty believing it to be the source of all suffering. Though he eventually because of this comes into conflict with the heroes, aided by one of his own:
Deimos, AKA: that scary purple floating eyeball thing with the deep voice that comes from nowhere. XD Deimos is a central hero. He's a being of fear, and he is based some on the idea that fear is a healthy thing, and being without fear is asking for trouble. Deimos tries to teach lessons in fear to prepare the others for what is to come and joins them in the battle against Ares, and his brother Phobos who I am yet to draw. XD

Look's awesome, bro. I dopn't remeber Ares from anythin you've show me beffore, but it looks awesome.
-
I've definitely seen some of this.
But.....aaaaa! The bitey orb sprite! Love!

Here's a few more sketches:
Sir Malice, final battle in the Queen Hubris storyline. He was her knight until hatred took hold of him, now she has no other choice than to fight one who served her loyally.
A face of Garrison. An artificial lifeform created by Dr. Morro. Morro made him so strong and armored that not even he can unmake him.
Entitył is an alchemist character who is rather short, has a problem with his hair growing long, and is not quite human. He's the same being as his predecessors who do not originate from earth. He hates fun poked at his height, he hates being mistaken as a girl, and he hates being told what he can't do.
Nex, youngest of a Kamaitachi family, and head of family business ever since killing his own father in combat. They are kind of like a weasel mafia, with blades. I haven't quite got their form down right but I'm getting there. Nex has a slight Oedipus complex since he was spoiled by his mother, and thus was the inspiration of the combat between him and his father. The fight was because Nex thought that his father had exiled his mother and didn't know that she was actually sent off to clear her head (she's bipolar and has a regressive disorder, though when she comes back later she is much better). Anyways, I should leave this for a character biography. XD He doesn't love his mother in a weird way, he's just overly dependent on her since he's still young and was separated early.
Guh... messed up on her arm. She's supposed to have one arm on her hip but messed up there. She's the eldest sister of Nex's family and is from KK's first marriage. She has blades but has them withdrawn in this picture. She doesn't like to fight, really, and hates seeing the dead and dying. Be they human or demon, she'll try to treat the wounded and dying.
Look's awesome, bro. I dopn't remeber Ares from anythin you've show me beffore, but it looks awesome.
Thanks! Me and my abstract villains. XD
I've definitely seen some of this.
But.....aaaaa! The bitey orb sprite! Love!
The biter enemies from Fester's Quest. I have not so fond memories of these dudes chasing me all over. XD All those sprites were 8-bit NES graphics, then I updated the shading and stuff. I'll probably add more frames to them too, to more modernize them.
-
ehehe. I like your drawlings. (Not only because I'm a furry, but also becuase they look cool,) The top 2 I though was a Hollow from bleach. and #3 remindes me of a character from The new star ocean. :3
-
I'm *this* close to humping you, DF.
-
Sorry Darkfox, been catching up on the Forum, im a few days behind. But damn!! i really like your characters, very cool and abstract me likes
-
Furry art is too easy IMHO. Doesn't let you practice clothes too much. Those bosses look nice, but I guess I can't appreciate some of them.
-
Furry art's not easy because of the clothes, it's easy because we humans aren't as attuned to the proportions of animals -- especially fictional animals -- as we are to other humans, which we see every day.
-
Actually at times I find it rather frustrating. Especially with beings that are unassociated with actual existing animals. I guess one of the difficult things is when I want to try expressions. I guess it takes a bit to imagine it, then put it down on paper. There's a bit more work in expressions, since it isn't just in the face but other things as well. And they can dress normal and work just fine. So the clothes argument is not necessarily true. Just because I draw mainly beast-human characters does not mean I value human characters less, I just don't have as many. Actually, I'm the type to humorously mix human and beast-human characters. XD I don't really favor.
Also, I don't care what anybody says, spriteing them is VERY hard! >_<
-
Sorry 'bout that. I just meant the non-clothed ones.
Spriting is indeed hard.
-
Sorry 'bout that. I just meant the non-clothed ones.
Spriting is indeed hard.
Some don't need to wear clothes like Gabrielle, but can and do at times, but as a fitting-in sorta thing. Others wear clothes because they are not as fuzzy or are more cultured. It is variable on character, personality, and traits. But of course some MUST wear clothes or that'd just be... well... inappropriate? XD;;
-
Ehehe, I just can't plain draw with my hands in general. Sometimes I wish I had time to learn or just had the ability furst hand. :'(
But I can do digital art, and I enjoy spriting from tiem to tiem :3

Another one with a sad expression. She doesn't have a lot to be happy for, she's a wolf, and reaching wolf adulthood so she has to bail out on the pack or else she'll be taken by a male wolf without having a say in it. She IS a quadruped, but... she has humanoid qualities as you can see, I like to combine qualities like this, quadrupeds that can pose in such a manner and be just as expressive as a human but still not the same as a bipedal humanoid. Body variety.
Her kind is like a primitive beast-human. They don't speak English but can understand it somewhat. And Miki, Yoko's little sister can understand and read it very well.
-
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/ShinDarkfox/Art/SpriteSister1.jpg)
Light Sprite, a mischievous magically born creature with intense power but a small body. Normally does not know she's hurting people and likes to yell "it's our birthday!". She has a Dark Sprite sister.
This one I need to redraw. Ymir is a Kreelee, a small squirrel-like alien race known for their paranoia and fine tuning of mechanical devices. He pilots a mecha and fights with larger races (but has poor piloting skills) and has a scatterbrain gunman named Zig.
Who he doesn't even know is a female Kreelee since they never saw each other prior to being placed inside the Kreelee Avatar.
-
These need more detail on the clothes, I think.
-
I'm redrawing Ymir because I had no idea for clothes at the time.
-
Impresive! now I havean idea of what to use as the base. He he he ^ ^

What do you mean by THAT? XD
You shall see.
-
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/ShinDarkfox/Art/YmirUpdate.jpg)
I made him look a bit too normal sized in the body, but that can just be due to it being poofed out.
-
Pretty nice work here. A lot of these character designs seems pretty well made.
Also, I'll admit right here that I'm sort of a closet furry. I mean, I know it's not really highly looked upon, but I really don't mind the phenomenon THAT much, really.
-
I've admitted to being tolerant and somewhat appreciative of furry culture. I'm not quite as on-board with you as to call myself a "closet furry", or to refer to myself as any grade of furry, but I have no beef with them, their culture (wait, am I seriously calling it "culture" now?), or the art style. I grew up watching Disney films, after all.
-
Just to make it clear, I am totally against zoophilia. I treat my beast-human characters the same as human characters, only some additional details apply in emotional displays, which I have yet to master. XD
Also I shun general "furry" (what kind of term is that anyways?) culture. They tend to revolve too much around animalistic than human nature. Where I on the other hand focus more on human than animal. Also, many of my characters have a skill for fighting and stuff. So it's not just for show. I rather give mine depth than being an eyeshow.
Anyways, I will never go beyond flirtatious in my sketches. In other words, I intend to stay within the realm of "cute". Though, I will draw more distorted monstrosities in the future. And will draw more humans as well.
I'm also a bit controversial in both realms because I planned a couple beast-human/human romance stories (not sexual mind you, but it does revolve around a human and beast-human falling in love.) I find it more interesting because it is a challenge and a complication filled with obstacles, it's also incredibly rare. This is nothing like those stupid catgirl/human romance stories, this is far more work involved.
Darkfox term explanations:
Beast-human (often shortened to "beast"): Refers to any human character with distinct animal-like features and qualities. This is more relative to the Japanese "kemonobito" (not to be confused with the hentai garbage) where animal-like characters live a dominantly human lifestyle. Popular games like Klonoa and a large variety of Japanese RPGs feature such characters. This is my aim.
-
Basically, DF is saying that they're creepy because they make it into a really crude fetish. While he just keeps his look on it as cute and he focuses more on the human/sentient aspect than the animal. Since the sentiant aspect of us is what defines us as human beings and all.
I can sum this up in another way. When you see something really disgusting and crude about anything floating on the internet... that's what the "furry" term is the catagory of. And in all honesty seeing any crude image/video of anything isn't pleasent at all. Take 2chicks 1cup as an example. And while in no way scat of any kind (or body fluids in general) could be simplified in an innocent enviroment, anthromorphics since the liking to them is more-so a matter of putting together different traits.
-
So... Furry characters are cool, but most people who use them sexually are not?
That's how I see it
And now for my opinion on the matter:
Sometimes anthros just aren't original, or interesting enough for me to like them
This might be due to them being overused, and hard to draw in a way that makes them stand out
These are an exception
As well as those within Sequential Art
-
This is true. Many "anthro" characters just lack any depth or are outlandishly powerful and try too hard to be badass and fail. As with many other character designs. Often this lacks any good explanation as well. There is no compelling story or explanation usually, and are often only described as being a "wolf" or "fox" rather than having a further species definition.
Utter lack of detail in their biographies is all too common. Otherwise it's often just a "whore" character which also lacks purpose. I won't spare my feelings, it pisses me off. Depth is important in a compelling character. They need reason, purpose, passions, and some kind of goal, otherwise they are empty.
-
I have nothing against furries. I'm fine with them, despite not liking furry art. It's a bit of a stereotype of furries to be promiscuous or desiring of sex with anthropomorphic or not animals.
-
It's a bit of a stereotype of furries to be promiscuous or desiring of sex with anthropomorphic or not animals.
Yeah, but that is the majority, so it places a heavy weight om my shoulder having to explain every time that I'm not like that nor advocate it in ant way. I even get into fights with people that have characters like that. I have logs to prove it. XD I more-so support a more romantic than overly-physical aspect of relationships. It has more substance and reason.
-
Disney films and furries are not the same thing. Anthropomorphic animals like Mikey and Donald and Bugs bunny who is not really a disney character are far from a naked cat lady to which nerds fap at.
Not going to start a debate over what qualifies as "furry" or not, since that wasn't my point. I meant that animals with human characteristics were a part of my childhood, and as a result, I find it hard to hate furries, since the art is animals (or humanoid animals, human/animal mixes, etc.) with human characteristics.
But I do find it mighty hard to agree that Goofy isn't a ****ing furry. Hell, I still find it hard to believe he's a dog.
...Also, I'm pro-yiff. You guys should be able to figure out why anything that in any way involves sex is fine by me. It's not hard (or is it?).
-
Great, this is just effing great... in my art thread THIS kind of debate pops up... not sarcasm, I'm officially annoyed.
Also I'm pro-human/beast-human love. "Love" in the terms of the affection, not the other "love" you pervs. >_>

Note to self: Use more furry jokes in Short Bus.

Note to self: Use more furry jokes in Short Bus.
Wait, what's short bus? Is it, like, some sort of comic?
[/nonserious question]
-
Note to Ed: Actually make some new Short Bus Pages
Already have. Will post them when I'm free school's out.
-
Maybe I'm being too sensitive and taking things too literal. Sorry, I've gotten this kind of stuff in the past, but not as a joke and more-so as an insult. So, sorry for being so defensive.
-
You are being oddly defensive where nobody else seems to be trying to offend.
-
Past occurrences. Plus, sarcasm on the net is hard to tell and my time away from Charas. I couldn't tell this was a joke or being serious. I was told it was a joke so I'm feeling a bit better. I had to be sure and all. XD;; I was on YT for a while, and there it wasn't quite a joke.
-
I'm in dark fox's boat here.
I can't stand that whole sexual aspect especially the tacked on fur with the cat people in anime with actual fur on their whole bodies just grosses me out. The ears and tail alone don't bother me seems more like a prop to me. If they are completely in fur and the way the style is drawn these days, just ew...excuse me while I go vomit /slight sarcasm but being serious.
I draw in the manga style and my own story for my games and the main story itself has many many different races. I have cat people (the non fuzzy type) and beast people (kobolds, beast men, drakonoids etc.) as well, but they are not as prominent. The story is very human oriented, so no furry here.
My story is much more mature in all aspects of the word, but I do not cross the line that is, expressed by everyone here. None of that sick garbage with furries. If there is a furry, it would be a villain or npc or monster in a random encounter. I use more humanoid races in my stories. Your typical fantasy/rpg fare.
-
What? I generally hate catgirls and elves. I don't evilize beast-humans. I even have a main character that IS a beast-human.
And with many races, it is a shame to focus just on humans. But I focus more on beast, and some humans. I just consider the general culture disturbing.
And I don't like typical fantasy/rpg. It has gotten boring. I prefer to mix in different aspects of different genres. I use beast-humans and humans, more beast-humans than humans but the human characters are not lacking, just the humans aren't as prominent, but they ain't invisible. I focus not on sexual but more on emotional engagement, especially when it comes to human/beast-human romance. It doesn't happen very often, sure, but it does make sense.
As for interactions between characters, I find it quite funny to add comical skits between human and beast-human characters. It has a sort of fun to it, especially when the human character can make several jokes about the beast-human character, who in turn makes a remark about the human character.
-
Opps! I got a bit misguided there.
Well my main story is on Earth. Only a few of the peoples from the second world (Semathia) in my games have traveled to ours.
I only have two cat people as supporting cast and they are not even used as much as I'd had hoped. As for romance and anything of that nature I leave it off limits. The two cat people end up as a couple with their own kind. I don't mix one bit, except for my female half-elf (based off of my friends character) and my friend as a character that end up as a couple. Everyone else is each to their own. I try not to touch too many people's rough spots.
99.9% of my cast are human until the games come along. It just does a complete reversal. Some of my bosses are drake, some more human looking and some more reptilian.
If only I can draw more than just humans.
If I need to balance it out a bit I could add more different peoples to the mix to make it more well rounded. Since my written story is out of villains well into Part 1.
-
I don't off-limit mixing. I just off-limit... you know. If a half exists, it's assumed, no details. People have asked me "how does that work?" and I'm like "...". XD;; pervs. Of course I don't give a specific answer.
My main story is on an alternate Earth, and there are aliens too. The alternate Earth is full of sentient species including humans and the conflicts and struggles that take place on both sides. The main character usually is Ren Lightway, a rather complex character who can take on a perfectly human form to blend in. Then on the other end take on his true beast-human form. He's also a rather celibate character, added, he IS a priest. He had a human lover (well, more-so he fell in love with her without her knowing exactly the depths of it) once but she was killed by the story antagonist which was one of the events that made him into who he is now.
His character I guess is a bit comparable to Vash the Stampede, Kenshin Himura, and Abel Nightroad. All of which are some of my favorite anime characters. This means that he's the rather quiet type until he has something important to say, and has his silly moments and moments where he'll display his feelings on the matter.
I'm influenced by various non-mainstream RPGs like Atelier Iris, Shin Megami Tensei, and FEDA: Emblem of Justice. Games like that. I also like Breath of Fire.
-
What I dont get is.
Both goofy and pluto are dogs. YET ONLY ONE OF THEM CAN TALK.
One of them is Mickey's slave. He's not allowed to talk.
-
...Also, I'm pro-yiff. You guys should be able to figure out why anything that in any way involves sex is fine by me. It's not hard (or is it?).
I wasn't joking or being sarcastic.
-
Actually that was slightly what I was hinting at when I Initially said that I like furries... ... ...eep.
-
What was that, Bluhman? I can't hear you over the sound of you getting very quiet.
Because that half of the post wasn't obvious...
-
Holy S*** I missed a bashing of the furry fandom 2 pages earler. O_o''
I thinks its time fur me to imput my Two cents. I did a report on the furry fandomn this year in L.A.
Since there's too many things I ant to quote and work on I'll just leave it at this.
If you hate the word fandom then Alt F4 right now.
1: The furry fandom's anthropomorphic characters are lineant towards either side of human to animal nature. It can even be traced down to just having animal ears and tail.
Having animalistic nature isin't what defines furry. It's generally being in a human form with animal fur, ear, tail, paws, ect... In a normal human setting. One thing that's great about the fandom itself is that nothing is absolutely concrete. People have varying opinions on there artstyle and storyline compositions, and rarely will someone ridicule them for being different.
2: A "Funny animal" (Disney cartoons, mickey mouse, ect...) Is rarely classsified as furry material, seeing how they lack natural human composure or even fur sometimes. People who draw characters with antrho style aren't instantly classafied as furry, or at least they shouldn't be. Only a person who has fully accepted a connection with the fandom is a furry. If your a person who likes the furry artwork or likes to dress up as animals with intent of the fandom, your a furry fan.
3: I am in no way a purrson who watches yiff, IF someone else likes it so be it, it's just another fetish like clown pron in my eyes. Watching yiff doesn't make you a furry either. I had a friend of mine who though that. And neither is dressing up as an anthor. that's just a fringe of the entire fandom itself.
4:Beast human is generally like a furry, the idea of morping into a anthro is generally accepted by the fandom itself.
Now all I can say is 1: I <3 your artwork Darkfox, keep up teh goodwork, maybe throw in some color here and there ;3
2: I love you too Bluhman
-
Well I'm none too good at coloring sketches but thanks. I understand what you are saying and I do like and respect what you say. You, like Fish, gain my respect. :) Not that everyone else doesn't have my respect but I do like honesty in a sarcastic world. XD;;
But I classify beast-human even to my quadruped characters because of exhibited human nature, understanding, versatility, expression, and behavior including gestures, which is funny. XD I recently started work on a witch character who is like this. Whom I'm drawing currently. I plan to make an update soon.
-
When will we we see some SS-02 art? I love that guy, he's like Rusty's big red brother.
-
Well, he's more black than Red. And I do have trouble drawing robots. I need practice on machines first. XD
-
Well, he's more black than Red. And I do have trouble drawing robots. I need practice on machines first. XD
That's kind of an odd thing. I have trouble drawing animals, but I can draw robots extremely well.

*snuggles way unto Darkfox's lap*
Yay I'm respected
Eheheh, I can only draw digitally. MY hands suck with a pen/pencil

*snuggles way unto Darkfox's lap*
See, I'm a very special type of person, and a quote like this leads me to deduce very special meanings...
MY hands suck with a pen/pencil
You're not helping!

0_o only Archem could think of that.

I swear you made it obvious!

Yeah, you got to watch what you say and how you say it around Archem.

Not really

Nah, Pedo Ghost isn't all that bad when you get used to him
and I've done that *snuggle* thing on different sites and people, and none of then though the way Archem, or this site, though.

Maxine Avalon, a woman at the age of 60 was executed during the witch trials. However she, being a clumsy yet careful witch made preparations for such an event, casting a safeguard on her life that if she was to die, she would be transferred into a "younger, healthier, and cuter" female body. Though this was a bit vague, and upon her passing of her soul from her body she was thrown into the most local body, a red vixen.
At first she was stricken, upset and scared. But after a while she adapted, and modded her body some with magic. She is still capable of carrying out the making of potions, using magic, and so on. Her eyes change depending upon mood, her hair is purple, her fur is red, and the "buckles" are amethysts. Her hat too is purple. She has a strong affinity for the color purple.
She is 6.8ft long and 4ft high. That does not include tail. And weighs at around 230lbs. She also has an affinity for food. Food of which does not fit in the vulpine diet, thus her weight. She's not FAT, but she's certainly not thin. XD She is a prankster, making potions with variable harmless yet amusing effects that usually wear off.
-
Because fat furry chicks need love too.
-
Because fat furry chicks need love too.
XD!! Her weight isn't all that extreme considering her size being a bit more than an average human. She's one of my newer character creations, made her like... a week or two ago.
-
Definitely larger than the "ideal" female body size. Your use of curves be damned, the width present cannot be denied.

Since the body seems to be the only area seriously affected by this BMI issue, I'm gonna have to say that your theory is BS. Her face isn't exactly looking like Chewbacca's, you know.
-
She is a bit hefty, that is true.
-
I'm just a little uneased at how the angle of the tail entering the back does not work with the angle at which it leaves. Unless it's a Mewtwo-type of tail.
-
I tried to get that angle right, maybe I should have went lower with it. But it could be curved.
-

Not really. You see, fat distrubutes to people differently. This is all because of genes. There are people 100 pounds or so overweight with rather firm faces and big stomachs and there are those overweight, but the fat is pretty evenly distrubuted. Like I said, this varies depending on the person themselves.
Also, with her. One has to consider bone mass, muscle mass and water before fat is even in the equation. So, to me, it seems about right.

Here's more evidence to support my posts: Use your eyes.

Now with some coloring! Not quite finished though.
-
Gahd, it kills my eyes! Use colors better!
-
Darker? O_o
-
Better. Darker might help a little, but "better" is the key word.
-
It's not the color so much as the fill going roughly against the black line. What graphics program are you using?
-
Yeah, that doesn't look great, either, but the XTREEM COLORZ are sure to make me go blind if I look at them too long.
-
I don't have the $$$ for PS or other expensive photo editing software. And I don't have the patience to use the draw out layering methods used by GIMP.
Basically, THIS is why I don't normally color. And may never do it again because I hate coloring. But I'm working on it as I go along, I'll clean up the roughness eventually.
-
I don't have the $$$ for PS or other expensive photo editing software. And I don't have the patience to use the draw out layering methods used by GIMP.
Pardon me if I'm wrong, but from what I can figure, GIMP works quite similarly to Photoshop with its layering. In fact, pretty much any quality image editing software has this feature. If you want to do things like that with software that isn't Paint, then you'll have to get over it. Besides, these fancy-pants programs make coloring infinitely faster and easier than doing it in Paint.
And besides, there are less expensive ways of getting those costly programs...
-
Coloring by hand is not exactly faster and easier when you have "nervous hands". I have to steady myself to draw. This is worse when drawing with a mouse where I can have a sudden spasm WHICH IS GOD AWFUL ANNOYING. I have occasional spasms when I'm trying hard to concentrate, why in the most inopportune times?
I find this actually slower because I'm in the meantime trying to be careful and stay within the lines while at the same time trying to cover ground. Guess I kinda try to pace myself, get flustered, then rush when I feel I'm not getting as much done as I had hoped for. Added, all tutorials I have found on the net so far are too vague and don't really tell me anything about texture and shading effects, and I hate looking through loads of features to find them.
Maybe I'm just not used to it.
-
Drawing by hand?
...
Oh! That! I'd completely forgotten it existed because of all the fancy tools on Photoshop that make coloring something in as easy as "wipe the colored brush across the screen until you've colored what you want completely".
Yes, it's just that easy.
-
Must be a Photoshop thing. Aw screw it, it's apparently too much for an archaic simpleton like me. I'm probably forgetting some stupid step somewhere, or I lack basic understanding of something basically common to these fancy image editing programs.
-
Prob'ly the latter.
-
And besides, there are less expensive ways of getting those costly programs...
And you get bonus porn!
-
*sigh* Whatever, to answer your question I cleaned up the image a bit in Ultimate Paint, then started laying out colors in MSPaint. So yeah, I suck.
You see, I've ALWAYS used MSPaint, for spriteing, animation, etc.
-
You really can't rely on fill....you have to open it in Photoshop or whatever, switch the layer to Multiply, and color it in manually in a layer underneath.
-
Ouch... I tried that, it was terrible. I understood that much, and it worked to some extent, but it's a slow process. But if it's the best bet...
I'm just really used to making sprites more than coloring sketches and I try to do it the same way.
-
There are so many ways to do coloring in Photoshop or similar software. You'll be sure to find a way that works for you.
And you get bonus porn!
Gonna have to use the classic PSP excuse: It's not a flaw, it's a feature!
-
Coloring manually is made quicker with a tablet with pressure sensitivity, but those cost upwards of $100, so I can't really advise it as a must.
-
Yeah, I know that all too well. -_-;; Big oucher there. But I said it's a work-in-progress. Not a final. Of course I'm going to clean out the messy stuff. It's actually not that hard for me by now.
-
Ehehe I'd say its not the color, but the lack of shading.
-
Hmmm...I wonder how I got Hypercam though I have no money....hmmmm....
-
Gee, how did I get a DS and a DS Lite without a job? Hmm...
Wait, I think I'm doing it a little differently from you folks...
-
Old ladies in Brazil have Photoshop?!
I must book a flight there with stolen tickets. Promptly.
-
Lawl. I though you just got a DS emulator. I have to say, FF Revenant Wings was alot better on a CPU
-
Your ass is better on CPU!
...Sexy.
-
Alright guys:
Is this color more acceptable? It's a Work-In-Progress, meaning sooooo totally not a final product. I'm still working on it. Yeah.
Ehehe I'd say its not the color, but the lack of shading.
That comes after I clean it up and stuff. Of course I plan to shade, solid fill is an eyesore. XD
-
I'd say the problem is more of the extremely high nasty contrast between the colors. The purple hat and the orange fur look kind of odd. In the "dizzyingly bright" way.
-
I'm not sure I can change that since I've already set the character's favorite color to purple. O_o Maybe the hat shouldn't be purple? I dunno. But there is no other color that fits for her hair. And she wears tumbled amethysts. When I get to shading it, it should help.
-
Perhaps pick darker, more saturated-looking colors. You could keep the orange and purple (which, by the way, are very unappealing visually), but please, pick something a little less "staring at the sun" vibrant. You don't need to shade immediately, but colors that aren't as harsh on the retina would be fantastic.
-
Is that way REALLY easier? See how it goes out of the line?
-
No, Lucas. Darker, deeper colors. Not bright, shallow colors.
Although that version is a bit easier on the eyes.
-
I'll work on color settling but I'll do it the way that works for me. That just doesn't work for me, you young people take a lot of things for granted. It's hard for us who still use the old method. It may seem impossible for you, but yeah, this is how us old timers did it. Archaic as it may be. Maybe someday I'll pick up on this newer approach, but that isn't going to be right this instant. Don't think I'm going to take to it like a fish to water, it doesn't work that way because I've ALWAYS used MSPaint for everything I do, even animation.
I was bugged into coloring my sketches, I started to even if I didn't want to.
-
I'm not that concerned with your methodology. I'm concerned with your choice of color balance. That's about it. Bad color balance detracts a lot from an image.
-
Where in the WORLD did I state it was final? O_o You argue like it is a final and not a WIP. O_o I'm working on it still, I'm laying out the brights then darkening it all around.
-
Archem loves complaining
-
I'm not arguing, Darkfox. Not at all. And Deathreaper, STFU. It's not complaining, it's criticism. I'm waiting for him to fully understand what I'm trying to say. He's not making any worthwhile improvements to the colors, so I feel obligated to repeat that the colors are just not working.
Ok, if my opinion isn't respected here, say so and I'll stop wasting both of our time. Otherwise, let me know what you're going to do to make things better.
-
She's not going to be anything other than an orange or orange variant color. And her hair remains purple. But I may change the hat color to deter some of the purple.
But I will shade her. I see no real problem with purple on orange, just for now it's kinda dark on bright. This will be fixed over time.
Edit: As I see it, the main problem is that the orange is too bright. This could be fixed by laying in a darker orange and using the current orange as the brightest color. But the hair is not going to be anything other than purple. It has to do with character. And coloring her completely purple makes her seem too much like another character of mine that is purple. Now I can only offer that, I'm trying to go for an orange for the fur, and have the hair a purple.
-

On a Central Processing Unit? Wat.
-
On a Central Processing Unit? Wat.
I think he meant to say "on PC".

I think he meant to say "on PC".
And I think I meant to "poke fun at him for calling a Personal Computer a Central Processing Unit".
-
Recently I've seen PC and CPU being used interchangeably. It's rather strange.
-
And I think I meant to "poke fun at him for calling a Personal Computer a Central Processing Unit".
And I think I meant to "regain dominance in my own topic." :\
Yeah... :(

Until I read your edit, I was about to just explode, but you seem to be slowly getting what I'm trying to say. You're not fully understanding me, but you're figuring it out on your own a bit, so I'll leave it at that.
-
Just know that I'm not leaving the violet hair and orange fur. I may tweak the orange fur tint until I'm happy but the purple is on purpose because it is the character's favorite color, an affinity really, just she doesn't color her body purple, trying to keep that as foxlike as possible which I've never done... EVER. Weird as it may be, this is me first time just getting down and trying to make a fairly normal fox design as opposed to strange colors like purple and blue (Darkfox turns a blue tint in some stages).
...and I have no idea why I said orange for her hair instead of purple. O_o WTF?
But I'm not going through the development stages on the character again... I've already made the color purple part of her character...

Update:
So far this will be called the Magideath: Darkmatter Wisp. A magic-born creature who's power was so great that it's body could not handle it and thus collapsed in upon itself.
And Manna, a traveling doctor. She's a mutant, in that she was born with a strange genome that caused her to change during the development period. She's technically human, in that both her parents were human thus is not a form of hybrid. More details when I get together the character bios. Personality-wise, she's antisocial and has a fear of being around a large group of people, she also is rather blunt, rough, and so on. Basically she's like a bit of a female Hellboy, Bones, and a tomboy of sorts. Rather informal. Also, she arm wrestles, and spars with guys, as a way to show that she's tough and able to handle herself. She feels awkward about people worrying about her, so she tends to always act tough.
Oh, and she wears a trench coat too, but I had a hard time drawing it and this is my first sketch of her, so I'll do it in my next. This is an experimental sketch. Lets see... oh and she's of German descent.
She's the type that tries to scare everybody away. XD
-
I'm sure someone here has to deal with back pain.
-
Well, she's around 10ft fully standing. So most clothes WILL be tight.
-
True. I should have done something else with the shirt. Hm...
-
I'm sure someone here has to deal with back pain.
Hahahaha
At least he didn't draw in nipple outlines.

I have my standards. XD

Puh-lease. You just don't know what a nipple looks like.

Puh-lease. You just don't know what a nipple looks like.
Aha! aha! nah I ain't falling for it!

Puh-lease. You just don't know what a nipple looks like.
But MEN have nipples. Are you implying he's so fat, he can't see his own nipples?
-
But MEN have nipples. Are you implying he's so fat, he can't see his own nipples?
He's implying that all men are like him.
>_>
<_<
Also, I am not overweight and keep myself in decent shape. :P
-
But MEN have nipples. Are you implying he's so fat, he can't see his own nipples?
I am implying that he has no nipples!
-
Nice additions. I realy like the Magideath:Darkmatter Wisp. It gives me ideas. Also, clothes can be that tight, but loser garments a more faltering on the female frame.
-
Long time, but I've decided to update this thread with a recent sketch of an optional boss concept.
He's an eyeless Anti... well, actually his eyes are in his mouth and the toothy jaws are actually part of the shell. He doesn't have many magical attacks and is immune to multiple elements, even reflecting some. Won't give a lot of details but... he doesn't have a huge sword, he uses a boyscout knife.
Again, translating from pencil to ink is wonky. =/ But I kept most of the structure intact.
-
Is that a raptor under a cloak? Man, we're all screwed.

They're among us now!

That's...what I thought.
-
That's...what I thought.
XD!! Well, he's one of those antagonists without some big plot to take over the world, uses very little specials and mostly physical skill. Rare but can be done right.

I'm now practicing cute little animal things. This is a long-time companion character of a human character, her name is Ji, she is the cute little sidekick type but is not useless and annoying. She can actually fight too, not run off and hide. Her personality is that of being spunky, mischievous, loud, but undeniably loyal. She is not a specific animal, but resembles sort of a mix between cat and hyena.
And THIS is practice on a more humanoid character, with a more human-like face. Could have turned out better, but I'm not too disappointed. This sketch was cleaned up a bit by the way, the scanner added trash to the image that had to be erased.
Inked version.

I actually freakin did it. I made a guy LOOK like a guy and not a flat chested woman. Unfortunately he looks like he has a goatee at the age of 16 but whatever. I drew a guy for a change that looks like a GUY! DAMN I'M PROUD! Pretty soon, who knows, I may actually draw a decent human character. Got requests from a few people to do though.
Btw: That is my symbol for Phoenix on his hand. And he's a striped hyena.
-
Scariest wrist ever.
-
An update after so freakin long. Well... I've recently been practicing coloring and junk thanks to Razor. A recent sketch I made I decided to practice several things on, including flesh tone.
Eight T. Eight (http://shinjuudarkfox.deviantart.com/art/Naughty-Double-8s-Colored-163102893)
Before mentioned: Yeah, extended paw IS odd. But being the freak I am, I'll say it is because she's stretching it out as part of her abilities. But still need to practice paws more. And yeah, it is toon-ish, but that is a preference of mine. I suppose that makes her look Pokemon-ish... then again, I guess she sorta is so hey, it works.
Edit: Previous image: The wrist is actually on purpose, Karl is like those snake/rubber people of myth, bending their bodies in seemingly unnatural ways. He's showing that he can bend it quite far without hurting himself. In fact, it is pretty hard to cripple him because he gives easily. He's kinda like Dhalsim from Street Fighter.
-
I think that one is cool. Reminds me of a Friends Cat (althought not fat enough). My only issue is the Tail tucked between the legs. In the animal World that shows fear, but i dont think you mean to present this emotion.
I also really love the Hyena Guy. Hes wicked.

She is catlike. Also no, fear is not the emotion she is expressing, more-so scheming as she curls her tail. She's not so prone to animal instincts.
I also really love the Hyena Guy. Hes wicked.
That Karl is a pyro!
